  1. Good point, brainless of me wasn't thinking it through...
  2. We had something in PA called freecycle...don't know if it's around you.
  3. I've just moved from PA to VA and am in the midst of unpacking...all those who wrote me for the pattern please have patience as we get our computer up and running...this is just the hubby's laptop...
  4. Here's one I found...thought I had another but haven't found it yet...
  5. You might try touching base with Jeff, manager of the Allentown Tandy Leather. He or someone he knows could likely help you.
  6. You can also shrink the pattern and make smaller roses - my best friend did them as little pins by riveting the rose straight onto a small piece of leather, then gluing on a pinback. Here's how I did it: 1. trace and cut each piece. Punch hole in center. 2. dunk a piece in water, remove immediately, shape to desired form. 3. stain. 4. using needle nose pliers, bend the tip of the wire around a bead 5. put the pieces on, smallest (bud) to biggest petal piece. Finish with leaf piece. 6. put another bead up the "stem". Wrap the stem with florist tape to keep everything in place at the top. 7. poke a hole in the bottom of a plastic or paper cup. Stick "stem" down in, allowing flower to rest just inside the top of the cup to dry. You can also use a rubber band around the flower, but ours were so "bloomed" looking, it wouldn't have stayed on. If you formed it more into a bud shape, you could put a band around it. That's what we did in 4H when we'd gotten the leather too soaked to shape very well. The instructions called for the use of glue, but I don't usually have time in classes to wait for it to dry before moving on.
  7. LOL...I was going to say marble...I've had 2 now, and I like the ones they have out nowadays better. Originally, the 12x12 ones were slimmer (about 1"). Now they're a little thicker. I still have poundo board glued to the back for hole punching, etc. They also used to sell one that was 6x12x1-1/2 but I don't think that size is available anymore.
  8. I had posted the first of these along with an offer for the pattern, under the topic of "teaching wetforming" in the youth groups forum. Here is my second - my sister is a nut about purple, so I thought I'd make her one for her birthday. The pics don't do the color justice. It's the new eco flow Thistle Purple and it's very pretty. This time I wrapped the whole stem/wire in green florist tape and I think it looks nice - 'course that doesn't show in these pics...I'd still like to try these smaller with thinner leather...maybe after I get settled in at the new place! Anyone who missed the pattern offer and wants one needs to email at WildRoseCreations@att.net or pm me.
  9. Delaware doesn't have a sales tax, if you consider those sorts of things, but I didn't much care for it there...
  10. I really like the Alpha and Omega design - very creative!
  11. Oh my Lord, that is hysterical! I liked the Cletus one too!
  12. I got my box full out in the mail today. You need to fill out a customs form, but my post office was very helpful with it. I mailed a large box for less than 10.00.
  13. To all who wrote me for the pattern: I found the instruction side of the sheet (I'd only had the pattern side before). If you want it, pm or email me. Don't just post it here as a reply, because I might not see it for a while... Holly
  14. I've been thinning out my significant stuffed animal collection. I went to the 'net to find somewhere to donate them. I was discouraged by the fact that most charities want "new with tags". I did find SAFE (Stuffed Animals for Emergencies), a multi-state group that collects them to give to firemen/etc to give out. Then I found an article about US soldiers in Iraq who give them out to children there. That really touched my heart. No matter what you think of the war, this is a special way to show those children the love only such a toy can provide. If you have some extras you'd like to send along, here is the address: Michael R. Fellenz USACE-GRS APO-AE 09331
  15. Sorry, every time I copy in her letter, something weird happens...I think this time it's all there?
  16. I won't be able to help this year because I'm in the middle of prepping for a move to VA, but perhaps some other person here would like to.... " Last year I wrote you on behalf of our rodeo team at the University of Tennessee at Martin. I explained that although our student-athletes receive an excellent education, our scholarship money is limited to what we can raise. Most of our kids come from small rural towns and need financial assistance to be able to attend college. Many will be the first in their family to do so. The lure of being a member of a team, being able to bring their horse to campus, and the encouragement of a coach to walk them through admissions is vital in giving many the courage to take the big step to leave the familiarity of home and attend college. I also told how they will receive much more than just practice on their roping and riding skills as there is a weekly team meeting in which they learn life skills, such as goal setting, the importance of attitude, striving for excellence and overcoming obstacles, avoidance of drugs and alcohol, and the individual's value to the team. Because of the excellence of this program, Coach Luthi has received the prestigious Rawhide Award three times for developing values and encouraging healthy lifestyles in and out of the arena. Tuition has sky-rocketed and another tuition hike is forecast for next year. Many of these students are discouraged about their ability to financially attend college and we have already lost some students as financial casualties. To help with this dilemma our team is again hosting a scholarship auction April 12, 2008, in conjunction with the 40th Annual UTM College Rodeo. There will be about 8,500 spectators and 250 contestants representing 32 different colleges during the 3 days of the rodeo. Last year you very graciously sent 5 of your wooden boxes and a business card holder to the auction and they resulted in some lively bidding. Anything from you would greatly enhance our auction and benefit our scholarship fund. You may contact me at 731-881-7426 if you have any questions. I know you must get many requests and I appreciate you considering this one. Sincerely Diane Luthi 15 Mt. Pelia / 1022 Elam CenterMartin, TN 38238"
  17. I have linoleum here, better than the carpet in my last place!
  18. They are both beautiful; my preference is the first one.
  19. Heck with Theoden, give it to Aragorn That is a fine looking bridle though! And also a great looking horse...after years of greys, I'd be happy with a black!
  20. Here are some pretty early ones from me...UGH! Hard to look at!

    4-H?

I've been offline for a few days and just saw your note. I work with a group in Northampton County, PA, that has been established for some time. I'd recommend you contact their leader, Jan Martin, who is just terrific. Her email is martinJ@cs.moravian.edu She can point you in the right direction on alot of things. You can tell her I sent you her way.
  22. The problem here today was not just the cold but the wind...it was so windy that my three year old almost blew across the parking lot at preschool!
  23. I used Aussie Wax on my English saddle and it restored it beautifully, also kept the dust off it longer. I'd recommend it.
  24. I have one of Peter's and I think it's fantastic. I've had classes with him and I've never seen him use a beveller, just the spoon. It's worth every penny even if you don't use it as much as he does (I still bevel with a tool)
