  1. About ten years ago, I saw an article somewhere about a guy who made his own dyes with denatured alcohol and rit dye or alcohol and kool-aid. Has anyone else heard of this or have tried it?
  2. If you get any more info on this, Duke, please let me know.
  3. Beautiful sheath! I love the look of that buffalo. Is that it's original color as well?
  4. I don't know about other peeps, but I have used the basic colors and mixed them to my liking, I then make sure the leather is clean and then air brush the dyes on. I also use Fiebings and they seem to work (and mix) just fine. I also airbrush my Super sheen on the leather for a more even coverage. Haven't had a problem so far.
  5. ok, I gotta add to this one... My wife and I were going to our bank the other day. I noticed the building next to the bank was for a proctologist. The sign above the door read: "Rear Entrance".
  6. Just signed up for the Internet membership. How long does it take for the membership to go through? It didn't really say on their web site. Indy, I don't have memberships to any mags. I am thinking I want to get some, but don't know where to look to get started. I am mainly into Wallets, belts, holsters, archery gear and motorcycle accessories, so don't want any mags dealing with saddles and such as I don't do that kind of work. I haven't done leather work more than every now and then for the last 20 years, but have picked it back up and would like to get back into the main flow of things. So if there are any good mags out there, I would like to know about them. :D
  7. Well, duh! Sometimes the most obvious answers come from SOMEONE ELSE! Thanks! That should work perfectly. I can make the screw from a seeder and a screwdriver. I can't believe I spent so much time cutting these by hand. Anyone done something similar? C'mon! Pony up!
  8. ummmm. tried that... It WAS backwards. DUH! I felt really stupid that I didn't think of that before I took the time to mount and try it.
  9. Maybe we should start one. <_< Just because! :D
  10. Does anyone know if there is a Leather Guild here in the Northwest (Portland, OR area)? I did a search on Google and didn't come up with anything. Thanks!
  11. Are there any stamps made by someone that, when stamped looks like the head of a phillip's screw? I have been making these by hand for a while now using a round seeder and then using a swivel knife or modeling tool to create the crossed lines, but would like to know if anyone makes these? I use them a lot on some of my bike bags and it would save some time if I didn't have to do each one by hand.
  12. Yup, I have started into the Tattoo artwork world. I got a really cool skull design that I put on the side of a front fork tool pouch. When I get the pouch done, I will post it up under the motorcycle section here on this site. It is the first skull I have ever done, so I hope it turned out ok. I can see several of my mistakes, but then I am WAY more critical of my own work!
  13. I know what you mean. I got into it when I was 14, but only did it off and on for about 20 years. Now I am getting heavy into it. I just broke out the majority of my tools from storage. I too am a little rusty, but my muscles are starting to remember how it was done. Keep up the good work! looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!
  14. Looks awesome to me! Great job! What did you use for coloring?
  15. I actually made mine from cheapo Harbor Freight scratch awls. I took the tip to the bench grinder and gave it the tip I needed and then buffed. I then sharpened them on a stone and then made sure the heel was still smooth by going over that part on the buffing wheel again. Total cost: $4.00. Total time: 30 minutes to do four of different sizes.
  16. My home computer crashed :killcomp: , but if I get it back up and running by then (and if I remember ) I will be there!

  18. ok, maybe I missed it, but where does one get the refined beeswax?
  19. I live in Vancouver, WA and I am not sure exactly what the LW population is here, but I would choose to live no-where else. Some say that it rains too much here, but I say good! That way I can stay indoors and work on leather more and not have to worry about mowing the grass or fixing the fence, or one of a million of other "honey do's"! :D
  20. Yeah, I know I can buy the book from Tandy on archery gear, and I will....eventually. But I was wondering if any of you fine folk had a basic pattern for a target quiver. One that hangs from the belt. I think I got the general idea of the shape of the un-sewed leather, but would still like to see one. I am currently making an arrow case and arm-guard for me. I want to eventually make a bow case, but I have some other "orders" to get done (holster, motorcycle tool bag & clutch purse). Thanks!
  21. Nice Quiver! And thanks Johanna for the board!
  22. I agree with the rest. Beautiful tooling and color. The owner of this purse is going to be the envy of the town!
