How much time would you estimate you spend doing leatherwork?
Patrice replied to abn's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Well...i'm not proud of myself. I'm working 35h/week, and since i met my new girfriend in july this year, i spend my whole weekend with her (she's living in Trois-Rivières, about 1h30 from Montréal). And, as she is a university teachers without a permanent job, she's working in Montréal and Saint-Hyacinthe, so she come visit me monday and wednesday night, i'm left with very little time. In fact, i've been away from practicing leathercraft from about 3 months. I still read and watch some video by Georges Hurst, but, this forum is what keep's me in touch with the leather hobby. But, rejoice for i'm about to make some leather gift for some members of my family and for my girlfriend. So, i must begin right now P.s. Is it just me or other like the smell of veg tan leather? Ah.... leather, truly a noble material to work with -
Wow! Great job! Very beautifu!

You could make him a shild like the scotish targe propose by Tandy, but instead of carving all of the dragons, you could carve is name! You can also make him a water bottle or a set of celtic knots coaster! And, if you have time, make him a pair of leather leg harness: http://www.bladeturner.com/pattern/leather...herlegharn.html The choice your!

Hi all! First of all, i must confess that i have another question I bought this pattern kit form TLF http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/product...?number=6033-00 I read all the instructions on all 4 patterns, but, there is no indications as where to begin the stitch or lace and where it stop. I have already figure a bit, but, man, those instruction really lack clarity for a guy who learne all by books or the hard way :scratchhead: So, feel free to give me a hint Thank you!

clutch purse & Sheridan panel
Patrice replied to Dan Hammons's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Great job! Altough i'm no expert, i must say that ruin leather is part of the process! One of my friend is making medieval armor since 1985. And when i ask him: How did you learn to make some armour? Is answer was simple: By ruining metal and by swearing a lot! :angel_not: -

how can i glue, clamp, immobilize the leather while sewing it?
Patrice replied to Patrice's topic in Sewing Leather
Thank's Art! I'm not relying on glue to hold the whole project, but i'm using glue to prevent different pieces from moving while sewing it under the pressure foot! I used upholstery thread and it is strong enough. I have some contact cement. I won't trying tonight, but maybe next tuesday! Having a girlfriend outside of Montréal, i will go see her this week-end :angel_not: -
I was looking on Zack white and i was wondering if those laces will fit: http://www.eleatherworks.com/home.php?cat=617

Once again, i asking for some advices! I try to make a medieval pouch using my old Necchi sewing machine and was frustrated when both pieces of leather where moving. So, i would like to know how can i glue, clamp, immobilize the leather while sewing it. I'm sewing leather inside out and then turn it back on the good side. So, grain on grain, the leather keep sliding under the foot of my sewing machine. I'm in my break lunch now, but i can post some picture of my sewing machine, my leather and my failure:angry: when i come home tonight!

Talking about steak, i have an idea! Why don't we share some recipe we like and that is easy and fast to prepare? I'll give you one that i like! It's pizza made with pesto and prosciutto (italian ham) You will need: 1 pizza crust (home made or from the grocery) Pesto (home made or from the grocery) Sun dried tomatoes 8-10 slices of prosciutto ham torn or cut in small pieces Feta chesse cut in small cube or finelly shred mozarella. Lay the pizza crust in a pan and spread the pesto all over it. Then, cut proscuitto into small pieces and lay them over the pesto. Put sun dried tomatoes over ham and finally throw feta cheese or mozarella on top. Put the pizza in the oven and bake accordingly to direction on the bag of the pizza crust. You can serve the pizza with a green salad with a dressing made with olive oil, basalmic vinegar and Provence Herbs (or any dry spices available). You can also serve red wine. Try the californian red wine, Fish eye (yep, that's the name of the wine). Bon appétit!

I'm not sure about the title for my question I would like to make a handbag from scratch using the leather and a pattern that i have, BUT, i lack the lacing... So, i would like to know what is the width and once of the lace used in TLF kits such as pioneer or the cassi handbag kit? I am facing two choices: 1- Making my own lace from veg tan 2- Using Tejas Florentine lace natural color wich is 3/16". Keep in mind that i'm not going into mass production of handbags, but just want to make 2. So, if someone on this forum could give me a hint regarding the width of lace and the thickness of leather i should use to make my own lace, or if using tejas florentin lace, i will be gratefull! Because rigth now, i'm pretty lost...
