I'm almost done with a similar deal, cleaning up and swapping my small workroom with a larger storage room so EVERYTHING has to move. I was almost paralyzed with the immensity but eventually did what I always do, break it down into little steps. I started with the loose stuff and empty boxes so I could get like items grouped together. Then I moved onto the bigger stuff, then the cabinets, benches etc. The hardest part was/is dealing with all the small bits that get scattered and mixed into other stuff. Days later, I see that there's light at the end of the tunnel and I hope you see it too!

Some Wallets I Made
Wicked Welts replied to venator's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I like that design and I like the bag stiffener ideas too. Thanks for sharing. -
Tom, I just followed that FF link and fell into the wormhole! It looks like I had the right option checked for the spell checker so the only thing that kinda sorta makes sense is that it said it only works for text boxes that contain more than one line but I'm pretty sure these jumbo text boxes don't fall under that limit. That said, perhaps they mean for instances where i haven't typed more than one line? One thing I learned in there was that I could delete words that I accidentally added to my spell checker's dictionary and after looking in there I found a few words that needed to go. Thanks again Tom!

Thanks Tom, I had no idea, I thought it was the forum software that ran the spell checker. So what could cause it to not work for so long and then just start working? I use Firefox with, I believe, all the updating setting at manual and last one being a browser update a few days ago which seemed to have no effect on the speller thingy. Oh, and any idea on when they're coming out with a grammar checker? I could really use on of thems.

OK so check this out - it's working now?? I did a little experiment by opening a reply to thread window in one tab and in another tab I opened a Private Message entry window. So I start typing my usual jibbersih into the thread reply and no spell check, then I jump over to the Private Message and the spell check is working fine there. Then, leaving the PM window open, I switch back to the thread reply and the spell checker is working away! Now right here it's working, even after logging off and returning a few minutes later. So what does it mean? Was it an alien abduction? Secret Mod fix? My brain fix itself? TEST - I'm Mike, the officially unofficial Underwear Inspector for the LdubNet. OK, it's all good now. Carry on.......

Are you folks getting automatic spellcheck when you type in here? You know, when it puts the red squiggle line under the mispelled word(S)?
-
hah, now that's funny! The weird thing on here is the checker runs automatically in the Private Message editor window but not in this regular forum editor window that I'm typoing in now. I've looked for a separate button in case it's not an automatice deal but don't see anything in either the 'quick reply' or 'full' editor versions. So like I said I'm either missing something (operatoir error is my specialty) or this is forum software specific rather than an issue with my browser etc. Right??

Welcome aboard Robert! You made a fine choice by reaching outside of your current interest and I doubt you'll have any trouble finding a nice spot in here.

That's how I see it and I figure that's the main reason the term "Top Grain" continues to be used or is it abused? Top Notch Top Shelf Top Grain It's easy to say "We need to educate our customer" but not so easy to do right? Heck, it still confuses me and makes me wish the term "Improved Grain" was chosen instead of "Corrected Grain".

....................... EDIT: I took a stroll down the forum menu and found what I think to be more accurate info than what I was offering. Have a look at Johanna's post here; http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=7447

I have yet to use it on leather but on other stuff I've had great results with Sailrite's basting tape and it's proven to be a better buy than all of my local offerings. http://www.sailrite.com/Basting-Tape# EDIT for spelling.

Why crease the leather edge? Do you stitch inside the crease? Wether it's a crease or a cut groove, the main reason to run a guide line along an edge is to provide a visual reference to help you keep your stitches parallel to the the edge of your work. And yes, your stitches would run right on that guide line. I've seen a stitch groove that sets the distance for your lace. I've seen a protractor item (creaser?) to mark the good as well. A groover actually cuts a groove as it removes a thin strip of leather as you move it along. This could be used just for decoration (without stitches) same as other guide line tools, but the main reason many folks choose a cut groove over a depressed crease left by a protractor/divider is because a well defined, cut groove can allow your thread (stitches) to sit lower or even below the surface of the leather for a smoother look and a better protected thread. A possible downside to that is it actullay removes material, which you may or may not feel needlessly weakens the leather since some material is actually removed. Either way, there are no set rules, you can run your stitches without any guide marking at all if you want. Some folks insist on a cut groove, others go with a crease but it's my opinion that the quality of your actual stitchwork is far more importatnt than which option you choose. Edit: I can't seem to figure out how to turn on the spell checker in here?

How Do You Store All Of Your Hardware?
Wicked Welts replied to tossik's topic in Hardware and Accessories
I thought I'd throw this on the pile too, a different idea in case someone here might stumble upon a freebie like I did. A wall mount automotive lightbulb assortment cabinet, the bins tilt open or you can lift them out; -
Good point, I should do that. It's always nice to see what others are doing, especially with the patterns that Tom does for us. Bob P's edging tutorial provided the encouragement to step up my edge finishing and I'm glad you put her to task on that. It's a lot harder than it looks but it looks like she done good!

A 13 year old? WOW, that's great Monica, your sis did a wonderful job! To skive or not to skive? I'm not sure which way is 'correct', the scale looks right to me but one thing for sure is you won't be seeing any of my results in here! EDIT - I was thinking neice for some reason but saw that you said sister in law - sorry.

Thanks Tom! I've been wanting to do one like this so now I have no excuses. If I manage to create anything worth the film, I'll post up some pics.

Thanks much Jim!

Tom, I hope you're health is continuing to improve and thank you for another great pattern!
