  1. Its not the patterns thats the issue, thansk for the offer. Ive got all the packs of holster outlines and such I was just wondering about the forming was all. Nothing in particular just wanna try out a holster of this style later. I may end up making one for my MandP lol.
  2. snoseal also works pretty darn good and contains bee's wax. Ive had good luck with it so far.
  3. Well from the looks of your other threads I think you have enough knowledge and know how to undertake the task. Just remeber that stingray is not the easiest critter to work with. What you are describing should come out looking great and Im sure she will like it. Good luck.
  4. If you wanna make guitar straps may I suggest ordering the leather crafters and saddlers journal jan/feb 2006. Its got a nice article from the guy that has greyghost graphics in there. That with stopping by a local music shop and taking a quick gander at there straps with some rough measurements and your all set. I know when I wanted to do a rifle sling I scoured the internet and looked at pics and all kinds of stuff, wrote down the common sizes, and asked around here for help. Dave at DCknives gave me alot of pointers and got me going in the right direction. Only took about 3 or 4 fubared ones to get it going. I dont know much about tack but as far as everything else try and get some books and such when you can. Al Stohlman's set of three books on case making is a phenominal resource of usefull info. As are his other series. I know money is tight but tandy has sales alot on these and if you look on amazon alot of times you can find them for half price or similer. Ive just started ordering the leather crafters journal back issues and I really like them. Find a coupel of back orders and see which ones have articles you like and get one or two to try them out.
  5. Thanks Lobo Ill have to give them a call next week. Besides everyone knows its pretty hard to dodge your own spit.
  6. Very cool looking, I like it. On the filigry portion did you glue it to the hair? I didnt see any stitching, do you need to glue it. I havnt done any filigree saving that for a later adventure.
  7. Off with his head .... LOL jsut kidding, I like it and I think it looks good without a border. Itall goes together very well.
  8. http://laurafries.com/archives/frog_purse/ Gotta check this one out, thought of this thread and the frogs so I had to post it.
  9. Looks great, too bad they want you to dye it black. Ahh well.
  10. That is way cool, do you have any better pictures I would love to see a little more detail if you could.
  11. Cool thanks for the replies guys. Very helpful. Those Will Gromely packs are some nice stuff, picked up all of them while they were on a pretty good sale, went back two months later and they were on sale for $0.99 a pack. Ah well lol.
  12. Hey guys ive really wanted to make a old west style holster/gun belt and I was wondering if I make it per the pattern do I need the gun. I know most arent form fitted like the more modern style holsters but is it necessary to still use a gun to get the final fit? I also looked for any blue guns of the old western style revolvers and didnt find any. Do they even make them? Thanks for any info.
  13. The seat looks great over all as allways. You do a fantastic job of carving and contstruction. I have to agree with Jordon in the fact that I dont really like the style of the birds for some reason. I like the other birds you were doing on the SPS seats. You did a good job on them its just the style. However thats just me.
  14. Thanks guys, that may be it Im about half way down the side. Maybe a little more.
  15. Anyone ever scene this website before. http://www.ghilliedhuleather.co.uk/index.htm I stopped by and was very very impressed with some of her bags and other items. I left a message for her to stop by and say hi. Pretty cool stuff if you all wanna check it out.
  16. Hey kate thanks for the input, Ive been mostly happy with there oak leaf or better grades just thought this was weird. Hey is that sale still going on on those sides do you know.
  17. That is pretty cool actually, and she did a good job too lol with getting everything spaced correctly and all that. I have to agree she's gonna give you a run for your money if she keeps up making stuff.
  18. This definatly would be really cool, too bad I wont be able to make it but oh well.
  19. the tandy al stohlman one may still be on sale for $30, probably not the best but I like mine. It works great. Had to sharpen it up and also had to finish pinging the brass pins and file them off which kind of annoyed me but ahh well its working great. Must say I was skeptical of head knifes until I actually cut with one then it was like wow.
  20. Yes actually since I started that one thread that took off a while ago I have been slicking about 90% of it. I picked up a nice piece of ceramic tile at lowes, its one of the counter top edge pieces that looks like a really wide L shape. Works great until I decide to spend the money on a glass one.
  21. Maybe just a thought but make a form for the inside of it. Stitch it, Then really case it like you would a holster or something. Flip it back out so the stitching is hidden, now insert your form and mold it to the shape you want. Not as it drys when it gets to the proper point with the form inside do your carving and such. Kind of like al stohlman did his rifle case's. I dont know if this would work but its worth a try if you have enough scrap to make one out of first hand.

  23. Just a thought, not sure where you live but try and find the series (3 volumes) of al stohlmans case making books. Tandy link He does a couple of box type things and one that I remeber with a wood interior. Shows some really cool stuff that would probably help you out alot. I would look on amazon or something may find a better deal.
  24. It was a oak leaf side that I had gotten a little while back. Yeah Ive got my first order of WandC on the way. Gonna try them out and see how I like it. They are cheaper then tandy for top of the line stuff but to be honest Ive never scene any of the top of the line stuff at either tandy shop Ive gone too. I would probably still be going tandy for the leather but Ive been disapointed the last couple of trips (about 40min truck drive to get there 1way). I am somewhat picky but not too bad and the last couple of times I just havnt found anything that looked good enough to spend money on. I liked it because I could pick out my leather but the last two trips I passed on buying anything but oddlot suede because there wasnt any tooling veg tan that was worth me throwing my hard earned money on. Add that too the drive and its just not worth it for me, Im gonna start taking the internet gamble and see what happens.
  25. Hey guys on a couple of projects that I had to do over a few days I noticed that after I cased my leather and then had to keep it in the fridge (bagged up) and then started working the leather that certain areas were allmost like a tacky sponge feel. When I was ready to carve I would take it out of the fridge and let it get to room temp and at this time let it dry out some to get to a good carving state. Well when i let get to the point of getting a good allmost dry looking color and started my work. When it came time to bevel I noticed at certain parts the leather would allmost stick to the beveler and fell allmost spongy. I could get it to eventually do what I want but this just doenst seem right. Maybe the leather Im not sure, its 8/9oz from tandy. Anyone had this issue before.
