  1. I thought it was just blue guns that would tarnish or whatever, most of the finishes on newer guns dont have this issue.
  2. Thanks for posting, that was what I meant in my earlier post just couldnt remember all the facts. Been a while since I talked to them.

Thanks Ed I just remember that you guys were working with this stuff alot and everyone were getting alot of good info into the mix. You still liking the tuff coat? Or have you not had a chance to try it out yet?
  4. Also if you see something that is from there parent company (weaver/hidehouse or whoever it is) you can call them and they will try to make it available at OTB. It may just take a little bit of time.
  5. Looks really good to me, maybe work on the edges a little bit but over all really nice. When I say edges I am talking about on the straps, just look a bit rough,
  6. Someone else posted that you have to take a caliper to them because he tried this on a couple and they were a little large or off in some areas. Not sure by how much.

Just a question but did you try tan kote or tuff kote. From what I understand these are all usually the same thing just tan kote is thinned a bit and bag kote is thinned a bit more.
  8. There is absolutley nothing wrong with educating your customer. Actually I prefer places that do this. When I look at a website for leatherworking and they go into depth about why there stuff is better becuase its hand tooled or hand sewn or anything else like that and they provide pictures and such I think it is far better then a play on words. Take Art Vincent's site on his quivers, Not only does he explain why his quivers are better then alot of others and shows how much work he has done researching and experimenting with his work but includes why others that have not done this and just throw some random stuff together arent going to get you your money's worth even if it is cheaper. Art Vincent's site Also when you contact him he is usually very helpful with explaining anything to you. Esantoro's site walden bags shows why his is better then the competition. There are many others as well, holster web sites, bag sites, all kinds of stuff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with explaining to the customer how yours is made and how theres is made, your not bad mouthing, your educating your customer. Even if they dont buy your bag they will be educated on what to look for and will more then likely remember you for your help.
  9. If I remeber right David alot of the birds and there importance for sailers were the fact that the birds were only scene near land. When one was sailing across the atlantic or any large body of water with limited supplies and motivational power it was a welcome sign to see land and usually land dwelling birds were the first you saw of it. Now I am not sure if that has anything to do with the swallow but I know it was extremely bad luck to kill a land dwelling bird on board your ship. Even for food.
  10. Reminds me of norther california, every summer would get 115f plus for a couple of weeks, sometimes higher. Just sit under the AC if you got it is all I can say. Im up in northwest washington state right now which honestly sucks. I think its sunny about 15% of the year.
  11. Its not the patterns thats the issue, thansk for the offer. Ive got all the packs of holster outlines and such I was just wondering about the forming was all. Nothing in particular just wanna try out a holster of this style later. I may end up making one for my MandP lol.
  12. snoseal also works pretty darn good and contains bee's wax. Ive had good luck with it so far.
  13. Well from the looks of your other threads I think you have enough knowledge and know how to undertake the task. Just remeber that stingray is not the easiest critter to work with. What you are describing should come out looking great and Im sure she will like it. Good luck.
  14. If you wanna make guitar straps may I suggest ordering the leather crafters and saddlers journal jan/feb 2006. Its got a nice article from the guy that has greyghost graphics in there. That with stopping by a local music shop and taking a quick gander at there straps with some rough measurements and your all set. I know when I wanted to do a rifle sling I scoured the internet and looked at pics and all kinds of stuff, wrote down the common sizes, and asked around here for help. Dave at DCknives gave me alot of pointers and got me going in the right direction. Only took about 3 or 4 fubared ones to get it going. I dont know much about tack but as far as everything else try and get some books and such when you can. Al Stohlman's set of three books on case making is a phenominal resource of usefull info. As are his other series. I know money is tight but tandy has sales alot on these and if you look on amazon alot of times you can find them for half price or similer. Ive just started ordering the leather crafters journal back issues and I really like them. Find a coupel of back orders and see which ones have articles you like and get one or two to try them out.
  15. Thanks Lobo Ill have to give them a call next week. Besides everyone knows its pretty hard to dodge your own spit.
  16. Very cool looking, I like it. On the filigry portion did you glue it to the hair? I didnt see any stitching, do you need to glue it. I havnt done any filigree saving that for a later adventure.
  17. Off with his head .... LOL jsut kidding, I like it and I think it looks good without a border. Itall goes together very well.
  18. http://laurafries.com/archives/frog_purse/ Gotta check this one out, thought of this thread and the frogs so I had to post it.
  19. Looks great, too bad they want you to dye it black. Ahh well.
  20. That is way cool, do you have any better pictures I would love to see a little more detail if you could.
  21. Cool thanks for the replies guys. Very helpful. Those Will Gromely packs are some nice stuff, picked up all of them while they were on a pretty good sale, went back two months later and they were on sale for $0.99 a pack. Ah well lol.
  22. Hey guys ive really wanted to make a old west style holster/gun belt and I was wondering if I make it per the pattern do I need the gun. I know most arent form fitted like the more modern style holsters but is it necessary to still use a gun to get the final fit? I also looked for any blue guns of the old western style revolvers and didnt find any. Do they even make them? Thanks for any info.
  23. The seat looks great over all as allways. You do a fantastic job of carving and contstruction. I have to agree with Jordon in the fact that I dont really like the style of the birds for some reason. I like the other birds you were doing on the SPS seats. You did a good job on them its just the style. However thats just me.
  24. Thanks guys, that may be it Im about half way down the side. Maybe a little more.
  25. Anyone ever scene this website before. http://www.ghilliedhuleather.co.uk/index.htm I stopped by and was very very impressed with some of her bags and other items. I left a message for her to stop by and say hi. Pretty cool stuff if you all wanna check it out.
