  1. Well tried the Stohlman style here from his book, Projects and designs. First try at this stuff and it came out allright. Finish wasnt as nice as I had hoped for but lacing turned out decent. Wasnt the best leather and I hadnt carved anything in a while combined with still learning so I had several issues getting it to look decent on the carving area. Gonna be given to the girlfriends mom since she will actually put it to good use.
  2. Thanks for the info. Sounds pretty cool.
  3. Great looking stuff, would love to have that whole set lol. On the belt whats the pasted and plated mean?
  4. Think it looks great. Not sure how some projects would like having to sit over night in the vinager. I love my black though as it is so easy to just dunk it for a couple minutes and rinse and your good to go. Plus other dies when done over vinegaroon tend to make a very weird effect that is really cool looking depending on the leather and project. Is the walnut suppose to change the color to brown or black? I think you can get crushed walnut shell at pet shops on occasion.
  5. Thanks for the input. I have never made one before so I kind of was wondering how everyone else made them. Ill give your method a shot. Thanks for the info.
  6. I keep mine in one of those big folgers coffee jugs. The red plastic one with the black top. No issue what so ever. The lid isnt air tight either so I dont have to worry about it blowing up all over the place.
  7. OK so I wanted to make a set of coaster for a friend and was wondering how you guys like to do it. I know you could just cut it and do your design and finish it and be good to go. However...... Have any of you used the boiling technique to get a nice hard coaster? Any tips for making a little fancier of a coaster, say with a lip around the edge and maybe some 1/8" neoprene on the bottom or something. Thanks for any input.
  8. Good looking sheath. Also thanks for sharing the pattern, that is really cool having a pattern and being able to see the finished project like this.
  9. Thats very cool, thanks alot for the info.
  10. Good deal, I just throwing my pennies out there. Personally I have a bad habit of trying to over secure things. Still good job on the holster.
  11. Thats great looking man. Interesting way to get that design on there. I could imagine laying that stencil down was a pain also.
  12. Hey welcome. Is there any pointers you can give us for doing something like that? We are allways trying to look for new tips and such on how to build things.
  13. May I recommend also the al stohlman series on case making. I think there are 3 books that tany carries. I picked up number 1 today when I was down there (they are on sale this month for $15 a pop). Granted alot of the stuff is out dated and such but for over all ideas and tips on how to make the stuff its a necessity atleast for me the somewhat beginner. Obviously there arent any cell phone cases in there but I learned alot about how not to put all the stress on rivets and stuff like that. Pretty interesting read if you get the chance. EDIT: If you can get it over there or shipped over. Not sure what the prices are to the UK, wasnt thinking about how diverse this community is here.
  14. I love the look and the color you got with that one. It looks really good and good forming also. Now IMO and Ive only done one hoslter myself but I also carry alot and go shooting alot and I must say that retention portion with the loop that goes over the hammer is a bad idea. It just seems that it would be really hard to get over the hammer ecspecially in a stressfull situation (which is any situation that you need it). I think it would hinder pulling the gun. That is the only thing I would change, other then that it looks great.
  15. WOW shorts those look great. How the heck do you do that, or is it a trade secret lol. Once again those look really nice.
  16. HMMMM well I may as well throw my two pennies in here while Im looking around. My parents raised horses and many other animals when I was a kid. Infact we raised all our own poultry including chickens/geese/pheasent/duck/turkeys (up to 60lbs lol), we also raised a few pigs, a cow a year roughly, and all this was a food source for some time for our family. We also had a pet shop for 15 years, not a meth head drug haven petshop but a respectable one that didnt mill out puppies/cats and the such and we carried alot of exotic animals. I worked at a pet breeder/wholesaler for 3 years as well. Anyways what Im getting at here is that with all my past experiences Ive raised and butchered just about all the normal domestic animals there is to eat and I dont see a problem with it. Seeing things like fish, snakes, other small animals that granted have some intelligence but nothing to even border a dog or cat. I wouldnt mind using any of these animals hides as long as the whole animal went to use and we just didnt throw the rest of it away. THis goes for any type of snake, reptile, croc, and the such. NOW when it comes to elephants I have a little but of a moral dilema. I have scene these animals, I have not worked with them but done some research a long time ago and I have scene alot of different sides of them. They are in my mind too intelligent of an animal to treat like we do like locking them up in zoo's which I really hate for the larger animals. Every elephant I have scene locked up like that has shown signs of seriouse stress that you would see in a person if locked up like that. You wonder why the guys go crazy and burst out of carnivals and start tramping people, heck I would too if you beat me down and made me do stupid tricks all day. All this after being seperated from your family which elephants actually have a significant awareness of. Anyways if however the animal dies I dont see any reason for it to be wasted. So if I could get a source that provided elephant from a animal that died naturally or as stated was from a culling to maintain the area to support the animals that are left then that would be ok IMHO. Now this has nothing to do with the dumbo thing or anything else. Heck I use to have pet spiders and scorpions and Ill still squich the little bastards every chance I get lol.
  17. There is alot about airbrushes but they are basically the same tech from years ago when I use to use one for other art purposes. As far as air compressors just get whatever you can that you can use to fill a bottle with or get one that has a bottle attached. You see the compressor surges as it pumps and you dont want this transmitted to your airbrush so what I learned was fill your tank. Spray your work then refill your tank as need be during the process. If I remember iwata was pretty good. I allways used baush I think it was. Having a double action is nice as it allows more diversity for what you can use it for, basically double action lets you vary the thickness of your stream so you can do big areas or little tiny lines. I also liked having the ability to get a top and bottom feed. Basically for small stuff you put the top little cup on and for big prjects you could hook up a bottle to the bottom of it. Thats about all I got, good luckluckLeatheroo looks really good IMO. I like the effect that the paint has, looks really smooth. Good job. And remember most artist are never trully satisfied with there own work. It doesnt help that your the one sitting there struggling with it and seeing every little tiny imperfection first hand. I know that kills me for projects, I see every little mistake. I would probably never finish a project if my girlfriend wasnt threatening me to get it done.
  18. I wouldnt mind having all that croc skins. I think I was watering at the mouth lol
  19. My only advice as I am still pretty much a beginner is read thru the forum adn related links alot. Get a couple of books if you can. I started out wanting to recover my motorcycle seat, well that was about a year ago and I still havent covered it. Made some pretty cool stuff and gotten alot of tools and such. It takes a little while to really get some of the stuff down but once you do youll start getting some good projects going. G/L
  20. Yeah my girlfriend would be also more at the upper body portion. there just wanst alot there atleast while we were walking around.
  21. Cool glad you made it and in and out without incident. We left at about 100pm and on the way out there was a accident on inbound side. Guess some crotchrocket was stuntin around and took out a goldwing. I think the wing rider didnt make it. Such a shame. That was the only inncident that I heard of so hopefully there werent any more bad stuff. Alot of bikes though lol.
  22. Honestly there werent too many scantly clad females early in the morning. Oh and the girlfreind took 99% of the photos. I just kind of walked around with her and pointed while saying thats cool, or thats disgusting, or wow, and she took pictures. We left pretty early as we still had about 100miles to get home and a ferry ride, Im sure it got pretty wild once the sun went down.
  23. Well went on a bike run and man there was a good turn out. Got pretty distracted so didnt get any real good leather shots. All in all there were a few good seats but really only saw a handful of nicely tooled or inlaid leather seats. Anyways heres about 75% of the photos from the run that I managed to get loaded up to photobucket. Real pain in the butt that was let me tell ya. Mostly just bike pron but hey everyone likes bikes right lol. Anyways enjoy. http://photobucket.com/anacortes1 http://photobucket.com/anacortes2 http://photobucket.com/anacortes3 http://photobucket.com/anacortes4
  24. OOOOOH that is a nice ride ya got there. I love the flat black (forgot what harley calls it) with all the chrome. Really accents the chrome I think.
  25. Thats really cool, great idea.
