maglight/gerber holder
MADMAX22 replied to MADMAX22's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the input guys. I think that I have it worked out enough now that I may do a couple more, one for myself and a couple for some guys at work. -
Hey guys I thought the idea of the Tandy light and mutlitool was kind of cool so I made this which is kind of a spin off of that. Its for christmas and is going to be sent with a gerber tool similer to the one in it as a present. I put the initials on there but didnt want a whole bunch of stuff so just carved them in and called it good. Took a couple before the DIP then dunked it in vinagaroon. I still gotta get it oiled and put a coat or two of snowseal on it. This was actually my second attempt at this one but Im pretty satisfied with it. Maybe change a few minor things next time. As allways up for any suggestions or critique.

I really like this one. Very very cool. I think this is probably my favorite one youve done so far. -
Hey guys just wanted some info as far as leather workers go to what you all think of water buffalo hide. When I was younger I had a jacket made form the stuff and it was strong as all heck, much stronger then any jacket Ive gotten since made of leather. It looked very good too, was a brendle color. Now I have also heard that it is not desirable to use water buffalo hide for projects. What is your alls take on this. Thanks

Chap Purse
MADMAX22 replied to Butch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very nice. Good choice with the little white/tan? strips, a very nice little addition of some lighter colors. Good job. -
Thanks for all the input guys. Very much appreciated. It looks like since I spent too much money at tandy that Ill maybe have to try building one and just live with any of my wood working downfalls.

Thanks Ill check it out.

Hey guys/gals Ive been looking around for a preassembled or mostly there of stitching horse. Ive only found one the one on ebay, seems ok but at a pretty hefty price. Not sure if thats a fair price or not (could be I dont know). Does anyone know of anyone else that makes or sells them. Yes Ive found plans and such for them however I must admit I am not that great at working with wood and am sure if I made it I would be rocking back and forth as I sewed stuff up. Thanks for any input.

Plain Brown Possible Pouch
MADMAX22 replied to singteck's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Hey wanna say thanks again for the tutorials that you have written. Those are really good with great pics. Very useful info. We should try to get them stickied or a link to them somewhere on the forum. -
Hey Tom as others have mentioned it is a really good idea to clean the little buggers out. I havnt messed with lappy's very much but did take a couple of friends lappys apart and they were horribly full of dust and dirt and what not. The thing with lappys is they have some really small screws but anyone with enough patience to work with leather can tackle it relatively easy.

LOL well he has the radio behind the splitter under the buckle rack but your right no coffee pot and no laptop, I would have to have a shop lappy in there somewhere so when I needed too I could hop on the ol internet and figure out how to do something I wasnt sure of ofcourse not like he needs any help with anything from the looks of it. Outstanding looking shop and very well layed out and organized. I like. Makes me kind of jealouse. Enjoy it as much as you can.

Thats great. Welcome to the thing that will eat up alot more money and time then you thought possible. You faired far better then I did on my first shopping spree at tandy. I picked up way to much stuff today at the tacoma one. Also got a couple of those 3/4oz tooling sides. They werent too bad. Seem to be pretty clean for the craftsman selection, Wanted to add that they had a decent amount of the saddle sides or whatever they are for $87 I think it was. Something like 45% off so it was a pretty good deal I just didnt have any more money lol.

Coin purse
MADMAX22 replied to MADMAX22's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
It was actually OX blood I believe, the feibings dye. Thanks, I made a second one that turned out a little better but screwed up on something (cant remember what lol) and it went into the bin, I was really bummed. Ahh well. These little coin purses are pretty cool and theres so many different ways of doing it. -
Very cool. Looks like it is coming along nicely. Not sure what you would want to dress it up with. However nice that you got a shop to post your work for ya. Maybe you will get some good sales doing that. Make sure there is a business card to stash near it or to go with it.

Very good job on those holsters. I like that CCW one for your glock, and the 1911 both look really good. How do you like that vinagaroon? You do anything to get rid of the smell on it? Ive just tried using vinagaroon with a coat or two of oil and then snow-seal, it doesnt make a really glossy finish just a mellow nice finish and from some of the comparisons that were done I guess snowseal is really good for water repellent and such. Just not sure how long itll last.

Thats a good book for sure. I would have loved to have scene her do some stitching. One thing I have been playing with is drilling my holes. At first people said ahh your removing leather and the awl just pushes the leather out of the way but thats not true, the diamond awl actually cuts slits in the leather. I have found that using a 3/64 drill bit for my smaller thread makes a perfect size hole that I can hand thread without a palm helper just rubber gloves, it makes the stitching look perfectly even allmost like a machine that is stitching straight on. It doesnt give that zig zag look that a awl will give you. The only thing with the drill is you gotta keep it straight 90 degree angle or yes you will get angled holes that come out at a different point in the back and personally I only think that it works with predrilling your holes however this is just my opinion. Great tutorial and I would highly recommend to anyone to pickup the book you referenced as it has pictures and some great isntruction.

I agree that is a nice finish and great job on this one. When I first saw the pics thought it looked like some real nice latigo allmost. Very well done.

Pair of Belt Buckles
MADMAX22 replied to carr52's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That looks really good, Nice finished product. One question, how did you get the leaves and such to stay that nice light natural color? -
Well I am not sure how complicated it would be, maybe depending on skill level and stuff like that it may be considered a little complicated. The design is more indepth then yours but the way he lays out the steps to do it and shows everything one step at a time its really not that bad. Im sure you could very easily handle the project. If you ever get a chance pick up all three books in the series if you can. They are outstanding books, a little outdated but the material and techniques are great.

Have you worn other maker's holsters?
MADMAX22 replied to Shorts's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Ive bought my holsters before I got into leather work so I pretty much got what I could afford and that looked like it could do the job well. All were bought at local stores in the variouse states Ive lived in. For my M&P40 I have a Desantes OWB, its ok but has to be worn in the lower position or it gets floppy. For the taurus pt145 pro Ive got to bianchi holsters one owb and one iwb. The IWB is the only one that seems to be of any decent leather working and does its job well. The OWB is ok but is made onpar pretty much as that Desantes. Just wanted to add some links to what Ive got Bianchi IWB http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=100 OWB http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=7 Desantes http://desantisholster.com/001.html
