  1. I actually used the utility knifes and such, would trace the pattern or line onto the leather then free hand cut the lines. Lastweek I picked up my first roundknife. and I must say WOW these things are nice. It felt really clumsy at first but now that Im getting the hang of it its amazing. Keep it sharp and away from the fingers (yeah I drew blood the first night) and your good to go.
  2. Hey guys, I emailed the photographer of the photo and he sent me a reply. This was the answer and a translation via computer Gracias Corey por tus palabras. La foto llamada "Artesano" fue tomada en Santander (España) durante una feria de artesanía antigua hace dos años. Creo recordar que el artesano era argentino. Siento no poder daros mas detalles sobre esa persona. Un saludo Jose A Gallego Thanks Corey by your words.the called photo "Artisan" was taken in Santander (Spain) during a fair of old craft two years ago. I believe to recall that the artisan was Argentine.feel not to be able to give you but details on that person.a saludoJose TO Spaniard
  3. OK well anyone here you speaks spanish or can read spanish would you please PM me. Its related to this picture.
  4. Well I guess Ill go ahead and agree with everyone else lol, really nice work man, very good design for IWB holster. What kind of screw is that and I assume they hold up very well?
  5. Man those are really nice. Ofcourse youd have to buy two so you could wear one inside out to show off both sides lol.
  6. lol i thought the same thing when I saw that.
  7. Wonderful looking case you have there and thanks for the explanation as how you do the glassing. Thanks everyone for the input.
  8. Thats pretty darn cool. Good idea on the adjustability of the belt. Looks good too.
  9. Heres another one I finished tonight. Another gift for someone. Used a belt clip on this one and did a little beveling on the initials. I am just wondering if I did the belt clip correctly. It seems that all thats really holding it in there is the rivit. I guess thats how it is suppose to work right.
  10. Well when airbrushing you will be turning it in to a mist or whatever that gets airborne but your not changing any of the chemical properties of the dye. If it releases benzine then there was benzine in the dye to begin with. However its still not good to breathe the stuff whatever is in there, so atleast a little mask thats good fitting (can get them at homedepot or the such allthough I go to lowes because HD tends to be antigun) and youll be set.
  11. Oh and just to add I could be really off on my description of what I think it is since Im going off only one pic that I saw a while back.
  12. If I can find a picture to post Ill do that. Not sure if there are allready some posted somewhere on the site. Basically from what I know you have a flat piece of glass pointed away from you and drag it toward you over the leather, kind of like dragging a big floor squiggy toward you. This is done after you have cased or wetted your leather and it is suppose to really smooth out the grain side or something. HarryB, thanks for the input. Now Im gonna have to try it, Im not sure about seperating the grain/flesh but Im sure Ill realize pretty quick what exactly you mean LOL.
  13. Thanks for the info. Sounds like that would hold up for some time. I try to absorb all this info so if and when I ever get around to trying out my own bag or purse in a similer style Ill have some starting points. Ive got a purse cut out from vegtan just gotta get started on it but I would like to make a laptop case for a friend and would probably go with latigo. However I think that one will wait till I get a sewing machine
  14. OK so I read I think it is one of the books that I have or maybe here also that some people recommend that after casing your piece to take a piece of glass and pull toward you over the leather to smooth it out. I guess this is suppose to even out the grains on top or something. Anyways would this smooth out the top so that the portions that arent carved get a smoother look? How many of you guys use this technique and if so how did it compare to not doing it? I dont have any glass that is readily available to try but would get some if this tends to be a good method. Thanks
  15. Question for ya, you say it has a spring loaded holder, is that like a Cclip type thing that you push them into, any concerns with wear on the arrows.
  16. Thanks for the responce, one more ? for ya. What type of finish do you do on it? Since it is latigo do you jsut give it a coat of oil and call it good or do you try to seal it with something. The leather you used looks really good.
  17. Thanks Dave, yep thats the one I was thinking of. As far as where to get printed leather just about everyplace that sells leather has some offerings for the most part. I still gotta try some of ostrichmarket stuff one of these days. Maybe after christmas.
  18. I know of one person that used a mules foot style stamp and made a snake skin that looked really good. Somewhere in the section here, it was a knife sheath. You can also get imprinted cowhide that looks pretty good and is relativley cheap compared to exotics.
  19. Very nice looking bag. I really like that style. THe leather used, what kind is it veg tan or some type of latigo or chrome leather. Its very nice looking.

    Stamp Rack

Very cool man, thats a good idea.
  21. That is very very nice. Way to go.
  22. Im way up in Bremerton, not to far but still a clip away. I think with the gas mileage my truck gets it would be cheaper to cover the shipping cost. If you feel like making a extra one I would be more then happy to cover shipping and some extra for your efforts materials.
  23. You know that is really cool. Would be able to get much larger stuff in there and stitch longer without repositioning. I would probably take it if I wasnt still in my darn apartment. I pretty much do all my work on what should be the kitchen table. Got a little while before well be done with the girlfriends house where Ill get to setup atleast a little workarea devoted to the leather craft. Thanks
  24. Just so ya know Tandy is having the Al Stohlman brand round knife on sale I think this week or very soon. Something like $29 or such. I think they are decent knifes.
  25. I agree with the others very good job. Very nice
