    Help

Welcome! There are a number of tool makers out there, some of which are members of this forum. I have an assortment. I have some of the older Tandy tools 60's & 70's, a few Hide Crafter Pro Tools, but I have been upgrading over the years and have aquired some Barry King, Gomph Hackbarth, and HIdes to Art., and a couple of Jeremiah Watt toos. I have seen ,but not used WayneJueschke's & Chuck Smith Tools. As far as Swivel Knifes go, Many of the above mentioned tool makers have swivel knives, but I am partial to the Leather Wrangler myself. I know there are more tool makers out there, but these are the ones I can think of at the moment. Many advertise in the Leather Crafter and Saddler's Journal. It is a great Leatherworker publication if you are not already familiar with it. Good Luck and will look forward to seeing some of your work. - Deb
  2. Check Ohio Travel Bag or give Springfield Leather (They have advertising banners on this site) a call, sometimes they have items in the store that they did not have at the time of publishing their catalog. (or have an idea of where to get it) Thanks Deb

    Adler 167 For Sale

This machine is still available. You can email me at crdesigns@embarqmail.com or call at 785-255-4554. Thanks Deb
  4. That is a very nice looking belt! Your leather should be a great addition to the tack trailer!
  5. I have used both Wickett & Craig as well as Herman Oak from Springfield Leather. Both carry good quality leather. I have only purchased sides of leather from Wickett & Craig, Springfield Leather has shoulders as well as sides and lining leather available. I have business pricing so I can't help you out there, however if you give Springfield Leather a call they will be glad to help you figure out what you need for your project, and you can ask what the membership cost is per square foot. They are straight shooters and don't try to sell a lot of what you don't need just to make a sale. I have ordered both over the phone and in person (was just down there this weekend) I have always been pleased with the hides they have shipped me when I have not been able to pick them out in person. Hope this helps - Deb
  6. Cobra Class 4 from Leather Machine Company - Steve Tayrien's line of products get my vote. I got one in May and it is great!! It sews through chap leather as well as breast collars. Had a sample that was leather stacked 7/8" thick and it had been sewn through. I tried it and it just walked right through. Good luck in your search.
  7. I have a flatbed Adler for sale for $600.00. It does fine for straps, chaps etc, but if you get into the thicker breast collars, the flatbeds don't have enough lift on the presser foot to get the leather under them. It has the power to go through it, just not enough presser foot room. I went to a cylander arm style to get the ability to sew up to 7/8" leather. It will sew anyth...

  8. Where are you located? I have an extra table and possibly a motor. I would have to have the motor checked out. It originally was a singer on it, but the head on the singer was locked tight. I ended up getting something else. I am in Kansas
  9. Hi neighbor! Where in Kansas are you from? I am in the Ottawa Kansas area. It is a little short notice, but we are having a Leather Guild meeting for the Santa Fe Trail Leather Artist Guild meeting tomorrow. You are more than welcome to come. Our meeting is from 3:00 - 5:00 PM, but I am putting on a pot of chili for lunch and anyone is welcome to make a day of working on projects and sharing ideas. Feel free to drop me a line. We will look forward to seeing some pictures of your work. Leatherwork is not a hobby....it's an addiction!!
  10. Welcome to the world of Leather addiction from a Kansas neighbor! This is a great site and everyone is very Helpful. I too frequent the Independence store - Janetta & her staff is always willing to help and fun to take classes with! Happy New Year to you and yours! Deb
  11. I am looking for 1/8" Stainless Steel Lacing to use in making rolled rope edge belts. The only stainless steel lacing I can find is the 3/16" from Weavers. I made a belt for my Son in Law for Christmas, due to the thickness of the belt, It needed to be about 3 inches longer, so I am going to make him another. The lace I used was 1/8" lacing that I got from a fellow leatherworker who had it on his shelf for years. (it was the last of his supply). He had gotten it from Tandy a number of years ago. There was a Tandy shop in Mesquite Tx that I purchased some of the 3/16" Lacing about a year ago. I have no problem in finding that width, but could sure use some help in finding the 1/8". It works so nice for the belts. Any help would be appreciated. Attached is a picture of the belt I made.
  12. Very Nice! That will be one happy Cowboy this Christmas!!
  13. NIce looking Cases!! I believe J Watt is Jeremiah Watt. His web address is ranch2arena.com. Weaver Leather also carries them. Hope this helps!
  14. Your site looks very nice and professional. It is easy to move around in and gives customers a lot of information. Great Job!!

    Cow-Boy

Looks Good! I just love those days when you don't feel guilty about spending the whole day tooling away!
  16. I have a used Adler 167 flatbed with walking foot machine for sale. Machine works well. ( I have recently upgraded to a Cobra) Machine is mounted on a 24" wide by 48" long table with a 24" x 24" drop leaf on left side for expanded working area. Comes with several presser feet, and bobbins, and needles. I am asking $600.00 for the machine. I am located in Ottawa, Ks. Thanks Deb
  17. The oil that came with my Cobra Class 4 was a Stainless Sewing machine oil. The brand is Fetitsew in a 4 oz bottle with what is called a zoom spout (telescoping spout) I have seen bottles similar to this in most sewing and hobby stores in the sewing section. Hope this helps - Deb
  18. jamiee, I have the pattern copied and was addressing the envelop, but did not have your last name to finish the address. Also when you make this, you may find you want the side strap piece to be a little longer. Someone who used it on their halter said they wished it was a little longer. Post a picture when you get it done!

  19. Jamieea - Hello, I receieved the pattern request for a bronc halter. I have a pattern for the tooled nose band. It originaly came from a Tandy Skivver newsletter. I would be glad to make a copy of it and send it to you. Send me your mailing address and I will get it in the mail. Thanks Deb

  20. What Delicate work. Those stems are so thin and perfect. Have not seen anything like it. Very Nice!!
  21. Chris, I received my edge slickers and they work great! Also thank you for donating to the IFOLG show door prize drawing. I know someone went home a happy camper! I saw the post on the filligree work edging and wondered about something along those same lines. I do a number of belt with names cut out of the back. I wondered if a slicker could be made that would help to make the edges smooth, but did not know how slim a spindle could be and still hold up. I will be interested to see postings if something works out. Thanks Deb59
  22. Welcome!! I am in the Ottawa Ks area, In addition to Konomos, There is also Leathersmith Supply .411 W 87th St, Overland Park, KS, 66212. If you are looking for Chap or possibly garment Leather - There is Fern-Thatcher in St. Jo. Their prices are very reasonable, and they will send you some samples if you call and request. Ask for Stu Blatner. There is also American Leatherworks in Leavenworth, they do mail order, but for now have a store open 2-3 days a week in downtown Leavenworth. Their Website would give more details. I like Springfield Leather as well. It only takes a day or two to receive it and their catalog has a lot of good information. - There are also 2 guilds that meet in the area. MidAmerica Leather Artist Guild meets at Tandy in Independence, the other is Santa Fe Leather Artist's Guild and they meet in Topeka or Leavenworth depending on the time of year. Deb
  23. Hi DR. I have not had a chance to look at Pete's book that was mentioned above, but there is a book I found that is helping me to set my costs and has sample forms concerning Saddle making, repairs etc. it is "How to establish Prices for the Saddle Maker or Leather worker." it is by Bob Brenner - Contact info in book is: 12155 Donovan Lane, Black Forest, CO 80908 719-495-3176. This book has a lot of good information and forms that help to take into consideration both an hourly rate for income, and the shop rate as well as the material cost when figuring your prices. There goal setting, and budgeting tips to help you along also. It is the best 39.95 I have spent. Good luck!! Deb
  24. Might also chek with Cobra Steve at the Leather machine company. He carries some threads in colors in 277. There is a color chart on his website.
