Sewing Machine For Breast Collars And Bridles
Deb59 replied to RuralRoots's topic in Getting Started
If you are able to attend the IFOLG show in St. Louis in October, it would be a good place to talk directly to some of the sewing machine suppliers and try out the different machines, pick the represenative's brain and check out their customer service. I personally have a Cobra Class 4 that I bought this spring and absolutly LOVE it!! There are lots of good machines out there. and trying them out is the best way to find out what works for you! - Good Luck - Deb -

Welcome to Leatherworker.net. It is a Great Site with Fantastic people!! I saw the wholesale site you were looking at was Weaver Leather. Try Springfield Leather for your hardware. (they advertise on this site). Kevin carries items from a number of suppliers including Weaver Leather. Give them a call and if they don't have it, I'll bet they can order it for you...and you don't have to be a business to buy from them. Enjoy the addiction !! Deb -
Forgot to put that I am negotiable on the price. I just put a starting price out there. Thanks Deb

I have a US Shoe Ideal Clicking Machine Model C for sale. It has a 17" x 34" cutting surface and a 13" x 21" cutting head. (cutting plates are standing on floor under machine in picture) It was originaly wired for 3 phase, but has been converted to operate on 220 volt single phase. We have had the machine running and the arm comes down, but from pictures I see of other machines, it should have a hand wheel that goes on the top of the machine that this one did not come with. This is available for pickup only - Clicker weighs around 2200 Lbs and it takes a bobcat for loading onto a trailer. I live in the Ottawa, Kansas area (about 1 hr south of Kansas City) I am asking $650.00. Thanks for looking - Deb

I just got a Cobra Class 4 in about 2 weeks ago. It came with very little setup to do. I made a couple of calls to Steve, one of them he was at a community carnival with his family and even though I offered to call back at another time, he took time out from his family to talk to a cusomer and answer a question. The machine is set up and is sewing like it's name a..."Dream Machine". I had been kicking around what machine to purchase for several years. I had it narrowed down to either a Cowboy or an Artisan and was leaning towards the Artisan at the Fort Worth Show I attended. Steve was working for them at the time, he answered all my questions, and you could tell he knew what he was talking about with machines, not what you wanted to hear to make a sale. I started saving and when Cobra entered the picture with Steve behind it - I knew what machine I would be purchasing. Customer Service and support are a major factor to consider when making your decision. I know several people who have Artisans and love them. I don't think you could go wrong with any one of the 3 - Cobra, Cowboy, or Artisan. Talk to them all and see who you feel the most comfortable with asking questions.

Need Some Info On Barry King And Wrangler Swivel Knives
Deb59 replied to cem's topic in Leather Tools
I can't speak for Barry King's knives because I have never used one. I have a number of different knives from Tandy to Chuck Smith. I took a class on Swivel Knife Techniques from Paul at the Sheridan Show. He did not sell his item at the class, just showed how to sharpen your knives and work on technique. I did go to his booth and tried a Leather Wrangler out. I ABSOLUTLY LOVED IT!!!. The knife is light weight, adjustable, choice of barrell diameters, choice of yoke style. It cuts like butter! I got the slim barrel with the 1/8 " blade, and I plan to save up and pick up a 2nd knife with either a 3/8" or 1/2" Blade. (My daughter has inherited my Chuck Smith as she has larger hands with long fingers.) Both makers are very reputible and I am sure which ever maker you choose, they will work with you to make sure you are happy with your choice. Good Luck -
I made a pair for nieces and a nephew with snaps. I put d-rings where the buckles would be, and rivited a strap made of chap leather where the straps usually are, then tied the snap on the end of the strap leaving a tail on it so it could be adjusted as they grew. I have also left fringe off the bottom and just put it on the sides, so as the little cowboy or cowgirl grew taller, we could add fringe across the bottom for longer wearing. Hope this helps. Deb

I just went to Sheridan for the first time this year. I LOVED IT!!. I have ony been to 2 IFOLG shows & I have to agree with Bruce on his summary of the two events. The one thing I would add is that the IFOLG show usually has a Swap night after the Banquet and people bring things, extra tools, doodle pages, books, possibly estate items etc that they have for sale. Since there are not the evening social gatherings and BBQ's at the IFOLG shows like there are in Sheridan, you can usually find people sitting around tables in the evening trying out the new tools they just bought, swaping tips & techniques with other leatherworkers, or just visiting. It is a lot of fun too. Either way you see a lot of nice leatherwork, learn new techniques, get ideas, take fun classes and buy new toys!

I picked up a card at Sheridan froma company called Nick-O Sewing Machine Company. They sell new and used industrial machinery. They had a number of used and refurbished machines of all different brands and makes for leather and upholstery. Had walking foot flat beds, cylinder arm with walking foot, etc. They seemed pretty reasonable. They are for Stanton TN Contact info: 1-800-526-4256 Nick Pittman. Hope this helps - Deb

I visited the King Museum while in Sheridan this past week. I saw so much beautiful work. One of the things I saw was on a wall near the workbench that is on display. It was a wooden carving of a cattle roundup. Does anyone know if there are any patterns that have been made off of these drawings that are available? I have a piece in mind to work on and that would be the perfect pattern. I have posted pictures of what I saw. Thanks for any suggestions or help. Deb
