  1. Randy, i just seen this post by you, are you still looking for patterns of motorcycle bags?
  2. I would say you got a piece that maybe didn't take to the tanning process well. Call Springfield & they will gladly help you. I had an issue not long ago. They corrected it by day 3. That was because the gentleman I needed to talk with was out until then.
  3. Some of the books put out by Al Stohlman tells what tools to use when doing different projects.
  4. I have tool duplicates. Can get you some pictures early next week. We can maybe get you a "Get it out of my way deal" As for suppliers, go with Springfield Leather Company in Springfield Mo. I dumped tandy some years ago because SLC has much better deals on tools & they are privately owned so they will work with you as a customer if you don't need a whole hide. Tandy's employees were great people, they just have to follow the corporate rules & guidelines.
  5. Lockland, i live between East of Memphis. That can be carved on a new piece & with some light tooling duplicated. I have done repair jobs on vintage leather like the one you show, let me know if you want to discuss those options & I will get you my number. If you need further help let me know & we can find time to get together.
  6. SLC has an edge border coating called Dura Edge. You can simply use water & a wooden dowel to slick your edges by rubbing. If you do this enough the edges look really nice.
  7. You would have to put the creases in the leather then use an antique dye to get the look.
  8. I like the knife a sheath both. Very classy
  9. Those are good looking coolers. Welcome
  10. Like the double lead for the dogs.
  11. Nice bags. You could use a harness leather to change the look just enough to give the wow factor. Don't know if you burnished the edges or not. That too will make a big difference.
  12. Welcome, looks like a good start. Like the rough look on the koozie. Sheath looks good also
  13. Welcome, ask questions & we will as a group will help
  14. Welcome, best thing you can do is ask questions.
  15. Welcome, ask questions is the best advice I can give.
  16. If you go to Springfield Leather Company web site you will see many different choices. Way more than the factory. I like alcohol based dyes because you can dilute them to make more subtle colors. Get a look at the Al Stohlman books on coloring leather.
  17. That looks really nice. Clean work.
  18. Welcome to the craft. Look at Springfield Leather Company. I use to buy from the factory, but just don't like a corporation that carries what they want on their shelves. I will say the employees are a joy to talk to, & they will help someone out. If you have questions, ask away. Many people on here will help out gladly.
  19. Wild Bill is right, when your new in leather craft no question is stupid. Look at it like this, the mistakes many of us have made that we can inform anyone new about can save time, frustration & maybe a whole leather project. So ask away
  20. Matt, there are a number of sealers & water resisters you can use. I typically use anything with a mink oil on my holsters. You have to remember to allow the mink to do its job & soak in tho. I always rub the mink in by hand. Always remember to TEST whatever you are going to use on a scrap piece first. Mink will darken so leather taking away from the look you may want. SLC has a number of good items you can use. You can also goto any store that deals in farm supply & they should have sealers.
  21. Good to see another on here. West Tennessee
  22. Aidan, looks good. If you look at my wallets, it is hard to tell but I do all of the holes by hand. I did use the chisel once to do lacing holes. This is a long process, & it will make your fingers sore. After two or three heavy hide wallets you won't even notice.
  23. Hugo, Hello, it looks good so far. I try to keep my stitches 1/2 a centimeter from the edge when doing anything that will take a lot of stress & movement. My holsters, you can see in the pictures, are a good example. I like to keep the stitches per inch close also, 7-6. I do use 5 STI on the smaller holsters.
