  1. miguel if you are not willing to help and teach then what are you doing here? that is what this site is all about. if all you are going to do is belittle brian for his happiness at learning a new technique, well we really dont need that kind of attitude here. so please take it elsewhere. my mom always said if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all!
  2. well said brian, i to have been braiding for over twenty years, there is so much to learn. ok get this straight....ortega didnt invent any new braids or knots he just composed his braiding in a different way, and his braiding was perfect....just because you are creative with your braiding and use knots and braids in different combinations doesnt mean you are inventing anything. nate is learning the argentine style now....but like many of us he is self taught with only bruce grants books to guide his beginnings. his artistry comes from the perfection, and the combinations of braids and knots from various places. most of the braiders i know of are very humble about their skill and believe there is always something to learn and someone who is better. you are using the spanish names for those knots what are the english names cuz i know a variety of knots...i can build a lomo de yacare or in english- crocodile ridge knot..
  3. hey aggie...stuffs looking good. the twist is always a pain....i just do my long buttons like that real slow and try to make sure each strand lines up. i think next time im gonna follow the tutorial alan posted and draw lines on the foundation.
  4. ok...well you can tell yourself that your inventing things but i sincerely doubt it. i have seen online braiding of some of the greatest braiders in the world, most of them from argentina, and the detail and fine techniques are amazing. your work is good but not of the same quality. take a look at the whip that whipit just posted, or the work of nate wald or armando deferrari. the best part of these peoples talent...they are very nice and willing to share their knowledge with any who want to learn. artistry in braiding is more about perfection and composition than an ego thinking they are doing better than anyone else can.
  5. oops aggie ya beat me to it. by the way miguel yes we knot the basic o2 u2 sequences and many more.....brian was happy to be learning this technique, when you braid always with a core or tight enough that the finished braid is square it can be difficult to hold tension evenly enough to do this flattened out type braid. i wonder about a person who can be rude to a guy who has been praising your work not only here but on his khww website. i had hoped that perhaps this was a language translation problem but i dont think so.
  6. wow lose the ego miguel... no one invents braids or knots...everything there is has been done for centuries and anybody that thinks differently is fooling themselves. I believe more has been forgotten in braiding than is currently known. might be stuff you havent seen but i bet someone somewhere is doing the exact same braids.
  7. ive been looking for large hole beads for my braidwork... a minimum of 50 is just too much money and too many of any one bead 4 me....too bad!
  8. anybody ever tried the metal clays....gold silver copper bronze and steel are available....i am thinking of using it to make findings for my braiding.
  9. its looking good! just from looking at that type of braid i would say the key is keeping your braid absolutely straight so that it flattens correctly.

    A Gift

wow thats beautiful pattern work in that braid!!! does that say downunder horsemanship? if it does i bet thats for clinton anderson.
  11. currently 1 degree here in nebraska...--19 with windchill

  12. ive done it with 10-12 oz latigo....its not a big deal just realize that the braid wont be real tight at the top and bottom of the braided sections due to thickness....and make sue your leather is good and pliable before you start, as you will be twisting and turning it alot.....use conditioner if you have too.
  13. there are folks who travel to dog shows that do laser engraving on collars and leashes.

    San Juan Honda

i think in one of bruce grants books he showed them being shaped over a pointy ended stick....build your honda then while still flexible slide them onto the stick that is the shape you want and let them dry...this gives them the right curve so rope slides free.
  15. alan...do you have any pix of using a leather foundation? or could you describe it im curious about what is involved in that type of foundation.

    Lace Maker

i looked for that as well for many years...no luck. if you took a plastic one to a machine shop they should be able to duplicate it.
  17. yes its the triangular tip....i just think it would round out your whole look...cuz really those are VERY nice....nice clean work finished edges...i too may have to make a version of the two tone....i been planning on a set with braided knots on it...hmmmm....off to plan!
  18. Whoa that a long skinny picture.....thats a good looking quirt!
  19. leatherpownder is absolutely right....if you use any kind of oil on rawhide you can not retemper the strings. no neatsfoot or murphys or any other products like that. however lard is different when mixed with the soap and whipped into an emulsion. you will notice that it doesnt seperate when stored like a mix of oil and soap would.
  20. oh yes absolutely the right thing....i bet they dont give discounts or do sunday rush jobs for free. and you cant ever trust a person who is willing to say anything to get what they want. what has happened to morals, ethics and honesty in this world. good for you for standing up for yourself.
  21. ya i think something with a little more shoulder to it, also if you used the spiral method of starting then maybe an extra wrap. when i get my strings down to the knot i go past it then tie my strands down with a single strand of string and then do my turnbacks so that they cant pull back over the knot while im working on getting the knots foundation braiding done. when your braid is on decent you can just cut the string and pull it out and any little bit extra can be tightened in when finishing the knot. good luck
  22. miguel- yes i know what you mean...i use smooth jawed pliers to shape the rings knots i use as foundations for other knots i have done a couple of bosals with knots under the ends of the nose button but i really like the way alans bosals look and the fact that you get a consistent diameter at center and ends with the leather collars instead of knots.
  23. oops i meant Alans' tutorial. yes gail explains it very well in her book but if aggie is going to get it done for christmas he probably needs to know now. i think the pictures that Alan posted in his tutorial explain it very well. he is a very good braider and has spent time learning from the likes of nate wald.
  24. i think you just need a bit bigger of a difference at the end for the strands to lock around....i havent done very many but i usually use a piece of string tied there to keep the strands from slipping off of the end before its finished. i think one of the pinned tutorials has some excellent info on building up the nose and the ends for the button. take a look at allan tutorial http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=4067
