Slaughter Free Leather Not Selling As Expected
roo4u replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
here in nebraska when they lose cows they ranchhands drag them out by the main road and leave them for the carcass truck to pick up on their way by. -
its just a personal preference....otherwise you work is very nice...i really like the two tone set. are hand or machine stitching?
-
could you please let me know the prices of the english point punches, the oblong punches and what crafttools you have and their prices
-
very nice...the only thing that i think detracts from the overall look of the collars is the diagonal cut on the end....i prefer the look of an english point or a round point punched end....
-
there are a couple of books that have lots of measurements...western tack tips and more western tack tips by tom hall...they have stuff about braiding but lots of measurements for various types of headstalls.

i had an old saddle that needed the skirts relined as it was hurting my horse so i went to a tandy and got some fake sheepskin and an awl and new saddlestrings and did it up. while there i looked around at books and such, but didnt buy any. well my mom had a nice rawhide bosal and one day her little dog got it and chewed the heel knot side buttons and the nosebutton off of it....so i remembered a book called how to make cowboy horse tack by bruce grant went back to tandy and bought the book and some calf lace and now been braiding for 20 plus years but only serious for the last few.

some nice work, i like the interweaves on some of those knots. the first two braids dont look like a gaucho pattern , looks like a herringbone pattern to me.
-
they still have an ebay store as well....i was eyeing their goodies
-
on the ebay listing it says if you need a replacement burnisher you contact them and they look you up and if you bought the whole thing you can get a replacement but otherwise not selling by themselves....leastways thats the way it seems to me.
-

oh man your gonna be sorry....cuz once you do roo nothing else will do! your not gonna want to touch rawhide once you start with the roo.... by the way there are some good videos on youtube on cutting stretching and beveling roo....also on some of the braiding. done by the guy from em whips in australia...before you cut into your roo watch the one on cutting roo its very good. i think someone just posted the link here somewhere.

I dont think there is a right or wrong way to use a fid....its a matter of personal preference and what your comfortable with. i personally dont use a fid...i use two-prong lacing needles, although i sometimes do use a fid to help get the needle through on really tight knots.
-
do you cut your own lace cuz orange is easy to make....i make bright orange every year for the hunting folks...i just dye the natural lace after i cut it. if i have some orange dye mixed ill take a picture and post it. how long have you been braiding leashes? we used to sell our leads wholesale to vendors in colo and texas...coolest thing ever is to see a dog show on tv and recognize you leashes.
-
i use double cap rivets for my dog stuff but i dont use the elcheapos i get the solid brass ones as they set better and the metal is tougher so they dont pop off...but for aggitation collars that take alot of abuse i use chicago screws with locktite on them.
-
that doesnt look like leather to me.....and there are specific design issues with dog crates that you must take into account...if leather was to be used on the outside then the interior would have to be water tight or it would be ruined the first time the dog spilled its water or had a wee accident.

i watch alot of bbc america...graham norton is hilarious they dont have shows as evil and funny on us tv.....one of my favorite actors is robson green...ill watch anything he is in. fav writer is val mcdermid, her books are so well written. robert palmer, musical genius, r.i.p. i dont have too much trouble with the slang because usually can decipher based on context, though fanny is an interesting one. i find it interesting the difference in accent from different parts of england...some are so mild you can hardly tell.
