    Bosal tutorial

hi anne...alan hasnt been visiting with us much lately. hopefully he will get a reply to you soon....you might want to try to pm him, then they notify him via email that he has a message...might get a quicker reply that way. i havent done too many bosals but some things to consider are string size, heel knot foundation and shape. in the tutorial alan mentions he uses floral tape, it is a bit tacky and will help the lace stay in place while you are building the foundation of your knot. you may want to start a topic also and let some of the other braiders give you some advice. good luck!
  2. i saw the twist in the knot but still very nice looking set and only another braider would notice something like that...
  3. whoa...thats what i call jumping in with both feet....good luck!
  4. well im not a saddlemaker but i have a saddle that was probably made in the 60's. a few years back i took it apart to reline it the strings are thru the tree at all locations and it didnt seem to cause it any problem at all doesnt appear to have had any treatment on the holes.
  5. wow all we got here in my part of nebraska was wind, cold and freezing rain which coated everything with ice.. all the trees and weeds and cornstalks are covered with ice....when the sun came out it was sparkly and pretty, but too dang cold.

    Rein Knots

well if its from bgs' book its either two passes or three passes for the short buttons, and the double buttons
  9. yup...just build and split more pairs going o4u4...
  10. 2 or 3 times a day....your a rookie...level 1 potential addiction threat. when you keep it on your computer and check for updates every time you even walk by then you are addicted!!!

  11. i dont think the starps are liking nebraska right now...raining, thinder, lightning and 19 degrees right now.

  12. i dont see how that seat could possibly sit even with the cantle being as crooked as that...have you tried measuring each side to see how far off it is?
  13. could you post the link to the photos so we can go see them?
  14. yes you can mix it...if you were making your own spirit dye with rit you dissolve it in boiling water, just enough to dissolve most of dye, then you would mix it with denatured alcohol til you got the shade you wanted. so just dissolve the dye and then mix it with your other dye to get the shade you want. when im mixing colors i use a syringe and add the second color to my base color in measured amounts and test for color after each add....if you keep track of the amounts of each color used then you can easily make the same colors over and over.
  15. mmmmm......brownies

  16. very interesting reading on some of these threads....i too had experienced the siegel customer service first hand. however, i do not believe in holding a grudge. everyone goes through rough times of one kind or another, im going to give siegel leather the benefit of the doubt here and hope for the sake of their employees they can get their s**t together. at some point in the future if they happen to offer something i want i will most likely give them another try.
  17. awwwwww....they are so cute. you really got that flattened braid down now.
  18. the way i look at it is this....in this economy information like this about suppliers is vital to most, especially the hobbyists who typically work on a very short shoestring. if seeing the truth about his companys service is making him angry then perhaps steve needs to look at his service through new eyes and find a way to fix it rather than blaming those whose experiences with his company were rather unpleasant.
  19. im in nebraska and i feel the same way.....dang tired of all this winter....course in july ill be whining and tired of the heat...oh well.
  20. sorry i didnt get back to you sooner i never check for comments and didnt know i had any. i just found out there is a guy and his wife just a little bit north of me that are very good and they do roo and rawhide. im thinking i will contact him when the weather warms up and see about maybe going up for a day to get a critique of my work and maybe learn something new. would you be interested?

  21. well yes you raise it to 4 bight or more just like any other turkshead you just have more parts......the number of parts will depend on how long you are making your knot. i never count parts i just make the knots.
  22. ok so you have the encyclopedia...he shows the long turkshead on 376 and 378...if you can braid the standard size turkshead in the 6 or 8 bight size then use the instructions for the 2 or 3 bight long turkhead and just increase it the same way you do the regular turkshead, by building and splitting the pairs. once you get the o1u1 turkshead foundation then you can do the interweave for the u2o2 just like any turkshead.
