i think so....she is bigger than a whippet and smaller than a greyhound, she has an overcoat that is wiry in texture and is 2 inches long along her spine. her base color is white with black spots and face markings like a rat terrier.

i think the most upsetting thing about it is that this was Ft Mcpherson National Cemetery....i just expected a bit more professionalism from them. considering that the entire reason for their being is those who have served. some of the vets there were so upset about it they were crying...not cool.

joel, you lucky duck! i used to live up there...whereabouts are you headed?

i just cant believe the horrible service i attended today. i took my mom to the the memorial day service at ft mcpherson national cemetery. its here in Nebraska and my stepdad is buried there. first the keynote speaker couldnt attend so they got a replacement speaker, who apparently didnt even read his speech beforehand. it was horrible, he stumbled thru it, mispronouncing words and getting the words wrong, so he would back up and repeat it. when the colorguard came out one of the girls was wearing a seethru blouse and flipflops, unbelievable! and to top it off the person that played taps couldnt really play the trumpet, barely hitting a correct note and not playing all the way thru. and people wonder what is happening in this country...

if you look back thru the braiding topics a bit you will find one that alan bell posted were he shows using an argentine style cutter guide, made from a piece of nylon cutting board, and a sharp knife...youll have to look back a bit think it was a couple of years ago...

joe...the white gas/wax thing is in bruce grants book how to make cowboy horse gear. you take the white gas and shave as much wax into it as will dissolve. be very careful as the fumes can ignite from a fire source many feet away, also they are heavy and travel along the ground. b.g. says it is for sizing sleazy leather.

here is the link to the post were i saw the pics of the lace cutter from the guy at hamleys http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=30688

the essentials are a way to cut lace, bevel lace, and split lace....some can do that with only a knife. also some type of fid. well i use a lace cutter from davidmorgan.com, works ok and was 25.00, it is wooden. i use a beveler from yknot lace works good and a homemade splitter from plans someone posted on the forum here a couple of years ago. if i could afford it i would like to get a lace cutter from the guy at hamleys, leatherpownder posted pics of the one he bought and i like the look of it. i do use a rounder, which i made....it is oak. i used 2 pieces of 2x2 oak and clamped them together and drilled holes along the centerline fine sanded them put a hinge on one end and a latch on the other so i can open it...works excellent to polish and smooth my braids.

i just found out about this virus from reading about it in this topic....even though there are 5 farms quarantined in nebraska because they attended the cutting there has been no mention of it in the local papers or on the radio....

yup that is called english lacing, it is not hard. you punch holes down the middle and take a long piece of lace, in the case of the rein in your example its latigo lace, then you spiral the lace down the rein half the lace on each side. im not sure how the ends are finished off perhaps someone on here that makes english tack can chime in. yes harness, latigo and bridle leathers are measured in ounces just like tooling leather. they are mostly sold by the side or back. most of the single ply reins ive seen are around 10/11 oz size. you can buy latigo lace precut i think.
-
what kind of lacing are you wanting? are you talking about english lacing? that is were the lace is spiraled down the rein, or did you mean a braided rein? if your asking about a flat leather rein then you can use bridle leather, harness leather or latigo leather...basically whatever kind you like.
-
did you stretch it first before trying to bevel it? it looks like maybe your into some soft spots, which are harder to cut...im using a bit different type beveler but the only time i have trouble with it is when i have real soft spots....i wish i lived closer so i could help you out....i know how frustrating it is when you cant make it work.

we sold our leashes wholesale and only did a couple of beaded leads by special order...can not remember what size i used, i think i measured the size of the avg braid and then just looked online. just remember that leads without a core will stretch a bit...ive never used store bought lace so i cant tell you how much...

just like nod 4 eight said....tie the strings, leave around 2-4 inches for the backbraiding and then just braid like normal. alternative is to tie strings in middle, braid down one way and then turn it around and braid down other. i suggest you get a book on braiding....the backbraiding is not all that easy to get a good clean finish on and is really important for the strength of the leash. especially with no core...plus ive seen some really ugly finishing jobs done by some of the socalled pro leash braiders, and seen poorly braided leashes just pop right apart the first time they were pulled on.

there are some good vids on youtube showing braiding...also if you look back thru some of the braiding topics a link was posted not to long ago for a leash making tutorial...same 4 strand braid.
-
well its not real hard...the braiding is usually a simple 4 strand...i recommend you use kangaroo. how you proceed with the braiding will depend on with or without a core. this will also affect the size beads you will need. if no core you can simply make the loops the size you want for the collar end and the hand loop, then you do a splice and braid those ends back into the braid. i used harness thread for my cores and all loops were tied before the leash was braided. if you look back thru the posts you will find a link to a good tutorial on braiding a leash.

i would say 4 strand chap leather, probably braided around a rope core....when i googled it i found them from 25 to 48 inches long. the end part is finished with just a wrap and then the ends are split to make the streamers...
