  1. I'm not as happy with the back cover.
  2. Well there was a small debate in my home about the possible title on the front of this book. I was considering "thoughts" or "notes" and the obvious "journal", but my brain eventually put the word "recipes" together with the image and couldn't let it go. The white on the egg and the dots on his eyes are acrylic paint, the rest is dyed. I am working on the back now.
  3. Thanks Chuck. I started dying this cover last night and I will put up a picture this afternoon as I will probably end up using some paint too.
  4. I always worry the paint will rub off or flake, but it hasn't yet on my projects. Glad to here you have had good results too.
  5. This is a book cover for a journal for my sister. She is a big fan of the Mandalorian and I put some of the characters from the show on the cover. I hope to finish it soon for her birthday.
  6. I made a dice cup with an eye on the lid once. Not quite the same as this creepy bag, but you could possibly make it work. Here is a link that hopefully helps. Dice cup
  7. Well, that is what I was thinking too, but then background isn't my strong suit. Thanks for giving me your input. Thanks. I will check it out. I have watched a couple videos on carving figures on too. Tony Bernier was interesting. Any opinions on if I need to background it or if a Greek influenced border would work?
  8. Very cool. Love the crashing wave.
  9. Thanks for the input. I have tried to push up and out with the nose and cheekbones, but I'm afraid to get carried away. I think I got too aggressive in the pressure around her left eye. I've been using a spoon instead of a beveler, as I don't have a smooth pear shader either. It will just take practice I guess. What do you think I should do about the fact I have made it all without a background on the outside? Does it look okay, or should I try putting it in? I thought the snake heads and tail might disappear if I did.
  10. This face is outside my comfort zone. I have watched a couple videos since starting this and it seems closer to sculpting since there are no hard lines. This is really my first time embossing the leather by pushing up from underneath too. The folds around the eyes, depth to the lips... I know this will take practice. I was hoping for a little advice from some of the experienced and talented people on the site. Thanks.
  11. Really impressed with your results. Scrolling, animals and colours all came out great.
  12. Thanks.
  13. Well I spent some time trying to darken the background so the banners stood out more. The fade was reasonably successful using a dauber, and then I used black antique, after coating the whole thing with super shene. The antique helped darken the whole thing and brought out more detail in the skull and antlers. So for better or worse it is done. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome to help me improve. Please ignore the shadow of my arms in the photo, the lighting on the kitchen table wasn't perfect. Thanks.
  14. Thanks. That was the original idea, making something for the back of a vest or jacket, but since it isn't for a motorcycle club, and there is some etiquette for back patches, it has become more of a practice piece. I thought the antler helmet was a fun idea and came up with the ride north idea since the motorcycle season is short up here. I am going to try and get the maple leaves to look a bit redder than they are now, but it is the background that bothers me the most.
  15. Work in progress on a biker style of crest or emblem, on which I need to practice more on carving and dying. It feels like I've made so many mistakes on this, but everything is a learning process. I used some dark brown, black, and a little Bordeaux so far, but came away with a disappointingly streaky, and blotchy result. I have gone over the letters with white acrylic paint and will probably do more of that. I left the skull and horns as natural flesh colour since it looks somewhat like bone.
  16. Brilliant work.
  17. Nice work. Those are great.
  18. This is really impressive. Amazing skills.
  19. Nice figure carving.

    Absolutely amazing skills.
  21. Nice work!
  22. Really impressive skills on this. Congrats on doing such an excellent work. I find myself wondering if you applied a dye around the outline of the bones, and if so how?
