Thank you Ms. Bree. I just finished carving the attache case and I hope to start oiling it tomorrow and dye the background on Monday. Then the finish will begin with the BPark touch to the edges. Maybe next weekend it will be done. I am glad I was able to deliver the portfolio for Father's day.

WildRose I would consider a photo album because there will be a lot of photographs from the wedding and reception, it would make a nice coffee table addition. As for designs, you can google images related to weddings and go from there. Something like a dove with lace and two rings with the names of the groom and bride in the middle in fancy script. Or you can center an opening for the wedding invitation and small photograph of the bride and groom. Good luck

I got mine in the mail. A couple of my guild friends found them at the store, but they never asked us for the coupon. We just told them that we wanted to use the coupon. I know that they logged something in my customer account, maybe to show that I used it.

I appreciate the comments. The background is no more than a pear shader hit repeatively while turning it approximately 30 degrees after each hit. I found this with Herman Oak leather that I have to keep the core damp, but not soaked to get some good burnish. I am almost finished carving the attache case that will be matching this portfolio for the same person. The edges came out really cool. I only wish I could afford the Weaver set up, but after all I am only a hobbyist at this. I hope I answered your question, but just in case you were talking about the backgrounding behind the flowers; I used a TLF A-104 backgrounder. Thanks again.

Tandy is offering a one time 50% coupon for any item in the store minus leather of course. ScissorMedic just used his to purchase some Kangro lace for 1/2 off. I know that is a one time deal, but you asked. Good luck

Shorts I have a Tandy set (extra) laying around. You are more than welcome to it if you will pay for shipping? I believe it has never been used. Let me check. eleven99 at sbcglobal dot net

Sorry it took too long, but here are the photographs that I quickly took before I had to turn the portfolio over to the new owner. Interesting enough, the new owner rubbed the edges as soon I placed it in their hands and said slick, really smooth. Thanks again, Mr. Park!

I will but it will have to wait for tomorrow. I am going to post the recipe here and I hope H/P is okay with it. I just copied his thread and placed into a word document. I gave him credit at the bottom. Process_for_Burnished_Edges.doc Process_for_Burnished_Edges.doc

I have silently watching the thread about how to finish your edges. I also took careful note to your way of doing your edges and I have to tell you that I copied the information or process and printed it out. It now sits on the wall in front of my 'tap-tap' desk. I had a portfolio that was very special to me and I wanted the edges to come out near perfect. I had been looking at your receipe and decided to go for it. I gathered all of the items that I could with my hobbyist budget (unfortunately the Weaver didn't fit) and started on my way. Now, it did not come out perfect, but pretty darn close!! All by hand....The shoulders hurt like a mother, but looking and rubbing on those edges make the pain worth while. I appreciate you sharing your tips with those newbie's. It is individuals like you that will keep this craft going long after we turn this over to the next generation. I rank you up there now with SCISSORMEDIC. You talk about getting a sharp edge on a swivel knife...shoot...he's the man and so are you!! Thanks again, A learning student.

I really love the design outlay. I never thought about doing that round and pointed tip on the outside like you did. Very nice. -
You're welcome....Good luck

Very nice case. Welcome to the forum!

I sometimes use the appropriate stitching wheel from Osborne. Depending on the amount of stitches per inch that I am trying to achieve. I then follow it with my stitching awl and punch the coordinating holes until done. I hope this answers your questions. Good luck

According to my lacing book, I believe it is going to be called "Applique Lacing." I found it in the "Lacing & Stitching for leathercraft" book from Tandy. Good luck

I am glad to hear the good comments. I just want to add one personal note. I had a stamp fail me and it happend to be a piece that she has experiencing problems. I emailed her and she another made and delivered within 24 hours. I do have to admit that I live three cities over, but she felt my satisfaction was necessary to redo it immediately. So, if you have a stamp that goes back, just let her know. She will take care of you. Nothing against, Infinity or Grey Ghost, but I am hobbyist and I cannot afford the cost of what others call a "great stamp." I am sure they make great stuff. It is about economics for me and I can afford this lady's product. If I would have known early, I would have asked "yaklady," I heard she has one of those lazer thingys. Anyways, I know there has been a lot of comparison and I would the first one to say that we cannot compare apples to oranges. If and when (though I doubt it) I turn this hobby into a busy, I will definately look up ISI or Grey Ghost, but until (as the wife) this will have to do. There has been a lot of talk about this persons quality and that persons quality and as the person who introduced Ms. Brenda, I felt obligated to explain why I did so. Thanks and have a great weekend.

I thought your first logo was cool, but just make sure one thing Eric. That YOU are happy with it. I also agree with way of thinking regarding the "business" part and what it has to do with your logo. I do not have a "traditional" stamp either and that is cool because I think it represents me and my work. my .02 cents. By the way all, Brenda is busy expecting another grand child and fixing up the babies room, so she wanted me to relay her her appreciation for all of your positive comments about her work. She also says if anyone here that has purchased a stamp and it is not right or to your liking, please give her a chance to fix the issue to attempt to make the customer happy!

Man, I am really sorry for your lost. I have collected (or attempted to collect) a lot of your late father's work (patterns) off ebay, but I was unsure whether he was still alive. He was truly a great leather artist. I have an increasing passion for old western floral designs. There are few Dootle pages that I have collected and some that are your father's work. Please share his work here, I would love to see it. Also, on our guild website, we have published Ben Moody's Rules and we would be willing to share some of your father's pointers on there as well (with your family's permission). So please share any tips or other information. Since I am artisically challenged, I depend on artists like your father and many others here to provide me with design concepts. Our guild also has a monthly newsletter that we would love the opportunity to highlight your father in an article with pictures...please share. More leather artisans need to know how your father had a part in shaping leathercraft. PM me your contact information, and we can communicate further. I appreciate you posting this thread. Best Regards!

I agree with Wildrose and Bran, but I wanted to add a couple of things to consider. 1. Your leather? Before I start and pretty much during the whole process, I usually bend it back and forth in the state that it will be used. You will usually feel whether it is rough or not giving, etc. Some lower end leathers do this, some higher end stuff does not. Just depends. 2. Forming the leather while wet to the shape that it will stay in is probably the best idea. You also want to glue your interior in that same shape to keep it that way. I remember I did a bracelet where I use the tri weave stamp and when I played with the leather before adding the final coat of sheen, it felt rough and somewhat non forgiving. After placing the sheen on it and letting it dry, I went back to play with it and folded back and forth and then heard the 'crack, crack.' Next thing I see it the actual tri weave pieces tearing off the interior and following to the floor. I caught major hell at the guild meeting for this same story and was nicknamed 'Thor' because they thought I just stamped right through the leather. I've been there no once, but twice. I feel your pain! Try wet forming it and play with your leather. Let it talk to you or just upgrade to a higher quality of leather? Choice is yours.....good luck!
