Beautiful! If you're like me, you are just damn glad it is done with zero errors!! Right. Cool design. Set up some tutorial photos on your next one since you have it down tight. Thanks for sharing.

I am starting two belts for some young fellas. The would like their name on the back of the belt. Did I mention that they wanted it filigree around the letters to put some hair on piece, I guess. I am only tooling them (good thing for me again). I look in the Stohlman book and saw where he used a kinda large loose basketweave design to hold the letter and it was filigreed? How do you do it? I was to see what other ways it can be done. Pictures would be great! Appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum. Sit back and relax. Take some time to let it all sink in.

If you don't mind Tandy leather, I have a hide I can strip it from for you. Obiviously for you, no cost! Let me know. Oh yea, it is more like 4-5oz.

Nope......that just means your one hell of a teacher! Someone got it. Keep it up.

I appreciate it. Let me think about it. I wish I could take your sewing machine, but a little more cash than I have and I don't have the work to warrant it. Man. I am sure another brother here will pick up on this "fire sale." Appreciate it.

Tempting!! I live in Austin, but the cost of gas and trip would make this some expensive leather for this hobbyist. I don't believe you will have a problem selling it. Good luck and thanks for posting.

Let me find the paper pattern and check with the designer to release it. I will scan it and email it if you PM an email address.

New Stuff to show
King's X replied to King's X's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
That's in my very own back yard where there is a water leak. That's why it is so green. LOL. Thanks for the comments. I will bring one for you on Tuesday night. Please make sure that both DVD's are at the meeting. Thanks. Thanks Deno~ I appreciate it. My first pair of straps and second belt. Any further comments on construction, detail or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I appreciate the comments. -
Here is a cell phone holder that I did for myself since my job requires me to have phone just for work. I got tired of keeping it in my shirt pocket or pants pocket. I already had my personal cell phone in a holder on my belt. Now, I look like a dork with two phones on my belt because I sure don't look important. The second project was a skulls belt with matching belt spurs for one of our guild members. She step up to the plate that last minute (last month) and put on a project for our members at the meeting. We were joking around and I mentioned that I like skulls and she did as well. I made a statement that maybe I would surprise her with a "skulls" related leather gift as a way to thank her. When I asked her how she wanted them finished and lined, she said that is the best part she likes about working with leather. I asked her if she wanted me to leave them unfinished so she could complete them as she like and she just smiled and said hell yes. That is why they are just tooled.

Just as WhineWhine explained. Michael's sell the foam Koozie's for .66 cents each in different colors. I then used a craftaid with a Boston Terrier and just added a geometric tool to take up the rest of the space because a wallet craft aid will be a little smaller in circumference size. Also, here is a bottle koozie from a pattern given to our guild members last year from one of our saddle & boot shops. Apparently, they cannot keep them in stock.

I just ordered and are currently under way here from Kevin, 5 sides of HO. I went through one side of HO already and you are right...................what a difference. Pretty good price as well.

Waterhouse Leather offers LW members a DISCOUNT
King's X replied to Johanna's topic in Announcements and Administrivia
Thanks to Waterhouse. I just bought leather from another "member" and advertiser here on Leather Worker, so I hope he will come through. So far the transaction has been very well received. I looked through Waterhouse website and their belt blanks look enticing. Maybe next time. Thanks Johanna -
Call Ron at Hidecrafter's. They have all of the latest (easy) sheridan patterns from Chan Geer and others at a decent price.

Nice. I bought one of those to clamp my dremel down for my modified Weaver edging system that Hidepounder showed us. (No LEO pun intended) Anyways, great idea and they are affordable too! Good luck and I don't think anyone has done exactly what you did.....soooo

Very nice. I like the color. Nice back drop, you are turning into a prop professional. Wow. Ps: so relieved you got your package. -
Absolutely. Go for it. I can be carved as well, but there is some difficutly to it. I have a friend that still uses Tandy leather, but he also uses Pro-carve solution mixed in his water.

google: Siegal of California for crown tools Hide Crafter's in Fort Worth Texas for the Pro-Crafter series Springfield leather for all of them.

Good to hear about Kevin. Please give us some details on the overseas hides after you get them and use them please.

I like to stick to something here in the USA. Be careful and read their ad again. It could take up to 25 days before you get your hide. Also, the cost to ship and customs???? I thought about it too. I am getting ready to order about 6 1/2 hides for our group of hobbyists here in my area. I have gone through Stevenson-Paxton, but I believe I am going to try Kevin at Springfield with his HO ad above. I heard so many good things and I want to see how good they really are. Good luck on that hide.

Where are you located? Thanks.

That's pretty, but damn lot of backgrounding. I hope that thing wasn't like 15"x15"? I agree, these are easy even a rocket scientist could use them.

I believe SBTrading is an authorized dealer for Hidecrafter. The dark colored Procrafters were the first set that George Hurst put out with the help of many other master tool makers as stated earlier. According to the George the stainless steel and blueish one where the second round (long story) but he didn't like the first set that came out. I know that H/C had a procrafter set for Sheridan, but the last two time, I know that they were closing out of the tools like the Venier and Border? Maybe more, not sure. H/C still carries Craft Japan, which are a step up from Crafttool, IMHO. I own all kinds of tools, but I like my procrafter bevelers for most of my beveling. If I need to change, I will go to the less steep set from H/C, craft japan. You can't go wrong with any tools that H/C makes. I have enjoyed my set. I still think Ron is doing the "buy 10+, get 10% off"; "20+ tools, get 20% off" thing. Call Ron and find out. Also, if you tell Ron what Crafttool number tool you are looking for, he can without looking tell you Craft Japan's equal. I even think they use the same number, but don't quote me. Good luck.

Eric There are so many variables and Mr. Parks may chime in, please do. I found that it doesn't stretch when I slick my leather, but are you talking about 2oz verses 9oz? If you glue your leather down to a board, you should be okay. Obiviously, with thicker leather this may not be necessary. I say this because I know people who will glue down an 8-9oz piece of leather and others that will not? Go figure. A lot of what you learn will be from your own doing. Just like anything else, practice, practice, practice; experiment, experiment. There is another thread somewhere here about having too much scrap around? What experiments can be done with all of that leather?? A lot. If I am casing a piece of leather for a job, I will also put a small piece in the casing process to use as my "warm up" or practice piece. This will give you an idea of how your leather will react when you are warming up. Last thing you want to do is mess up your final piece! Been there done that too many time. As for the slickers, PM TimD on here, I believe he may chime in later, but he makes these great little slickers for $20 bucks plus S/H. Wow, for a hobbyist they are great and build like the old Sear's building. Small investment for experimenting, I think. Good luck
