Filigree Belt with name
King's X replied to King's X's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
well, I finally completed the filigree belts after receiving some help from one of our local saddle makers. I also spoke to an old timer who makes primarily belts. He suggested a small set of wood carving tools (as I suggested on another post response). After he showed me how it worked, I decided to get my top secret set at my local Hobby Lobby for $4.99 and used them. Wow, what a difference. I had to make two belts, for obivious newbie reasons, anyways, the first one was with a scapel and Xacto cutters. Not a good mix especially adding no experience. After getting the information and buying the tools and deploying my new secret weapon, the second one came out much better than my first attempt. I ended up giving my first set of wood carving tools to my saddler friend for the help. I then went back to Hobby Lobby and purchased the bigger set for $9. I tried to find a picture of these on the Hobby Lobby website, but failed. I did find a much like picture on ebay. Here it is. I will also post the ebay auction number since I am using the picture. Looking for an effect
King's X replied to Vikti's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Damon I have the smallest pebbler tool that looks like the A104 in size. Do you need me to send it to you to finish your work? You can send it right back. I am in Round Rock, Texas? Just let me know. -
Hey Frank Would mind sending me a PM with the asking price and whether you are willing to split the volumes? I have partial sets as well and am looking to build up my volumes. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum~ Nice work.

I learned from an ol timer that the small set of chip carving tools found at Hobby Lobby or Wood Craft works very good compared to what you have used. Wood craft has a "Flex-Cut" starter set that works good too, but the set at Hobby Lobby is only $4.99. They will need to be sharpened up and stropped before using, but you will save a lot of time and grief. I had to due my first of belts over after what you used did not work as you are finding out. Good luck.

I got them yesterday along with a nice note from Bearman. Asian Satinwood is correct. The curly grain changes as you move the handles up and down in the sunlight. Wow. They feel so much better in my hands. Time to send another two. Take him up if you get the chance.

I received an email from Ed this afternoon and he is telling me that he is still unable to get onto the LW site. He said that he will keep trying to get on. thanks for the comments. I believe he will make a mallet. Have a great evening!

So a person I consider a friend by the name of JBird brought an idea up that I had been quietly collecting patterns for over the course of several months. You see Jbird wanted to build a "miniature" or half size saddle. In gathering all of the information that I had collected has spark interested in this project again for me. So back to the research stage again for me to see if I really want to dive into making. Off to Google to see what they could reveal for me regarding to saddles. During my researching I found a picture of this museum piece that is mucho years old that is totally made out of "bone!" After studying it for a moment, two words immediately came to mind. Wow and ouch! What do you guys (& ladies) think?

I just received this picture yesterday evening from the Ed "the man" Bearman. Since I have nerve problems that trickle down to my hands, I had a hard time grasping my BK Mauls to the point that I was looking for alternatives objects to strike with. Then I saw the latest mauls that Bearman put out and I just had to ask. Low and behold, the Bearman came through and enlarged my handles to help me out. YOU DA MAN!! He also got rid of an annoying "ping" sound that I would hear everytime I would strike it. Great! Just FYI........Very affordable...........and yes, the Bearman makes and sells MAULS...........my bad ED! So if you are in the market, look him up. Place a notch for another satisfied customer!

You don't need no stinkiin introduction. I joined your leather club and have all of your written material. I am completing your mini-series on dyeing that you wrote through MIWL. AWESOME work, both written and actual items! The cover on the pictorial book is freakin bad!! Amazing!

Props to the LW crew, especially Johanna. I am drinking a cold one and have just placed a fresh one right next to mine for you Johanna. Sidenote: I hear the local grocery store has a sale on ground beef for repacking that @#& after that @#$ chewing. Be patience. I am sorry that "harsh" comments have been received by the Leather Lady, but I just think that some people "think" negatively, some "speak" negatively and some just don't really give a hoot. But we all love you!! Can we all just get along?

Dusty: I read somewhere that you once did a half size saddle competition or article? Anyways, you would happen to have any patterns or instructions for these miniature saddles by chance? I know that George Hast wrote a couple of articles on how to build these saddles for "Make It With Leather" magazine. I haven't been able to find anything written articles from him or patterns? I also found a guy by the name of Ed Skobalski from Oroville Washington who was selling patterns similar to these but narrowed it down to Santa Fe and Mother Hubbard patterns for beginners. Just thought I would hit you up to see what input you had. I have been on a horse maybe less than 12 times in my life, but these miniatures intrigue me and maybe something I could do for family gifts down the rode. Any help or suggestions would be strongly appreciated. Thanks.

I just wanted those members that I have been conversing with in the last week; all of my messages are gone. I am sure that they are working on getting those back, but if you could, please re-send your last message. I know that I owe one member a pattern and I want to make sure they get it. Bearman, I sent you a message already. Thanks for understanding.

You might want to check on eBay. I am looking for an old saddle to attempt a recondition. I saw quite a few of them that might meet your requirements. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you both can help our members around this site, but especially in the Harness section. Thanks for sharing the family history.

Beautiful. It really came out nice.

You guys (& ladies) do your thing as long as I can reach this place and continue to learn. Any change will take time to get it straighten out, so we have to show some patience. I like the RSS option personally since I have that going on my desktop for news. On a side note, I was on late last night and it freaked me out when I saw no forum and a forbidden notice when I tried to logged on. I am glad we are up! Johanna and crew, from me, thanks.

Any suppliers on here would work. If you do not want to deal with the internet ones, Tandy sells something that might work. Good luck. Oh, and welcome to the Forum.

welcome to the site. I just keep my pixels down under 1000 and it usually loads. I use a simple program like Microsoft Picture Manager and click on the edit/resize. 900 pixels for the first number should be okay for you to load, one at time. Good luck

Anyone looking for this book? Ebay #280387100052 One day left. Good luck. Oh, btw, I am not the seller.
