  1. SadEyes Great news...maybe you can share a tutorial with WC's permission here on the net for us? Appreciate any effort!
  2. Welcome to the forum!
  3. I thought your first logo was cool, but just make sure one thing Eric. That YOU are happy with it. I also agree with way of thinking regarding the "business" part and what it has to do with your logo. I do not have a "traditional" stamp either and that is cool because I think it represents me and my work. my .02 cents. By the way all, Brenda is busy expecting another grand child and fixing up the babies room, so she wanted me to relay her her appreciation for all of your positive comments about her work. She also says if anyone here that has purchased a stamp and it is not right or to your liking, please give her a chance to fix the issue to attempt to make the customer happy!
  4. Man, I am really sorry for your lost. I have collected (or attempted to collect) a lot of your late father's work (patterns) off ebay, but I was unsure whether he was still alive. He was truly a great leather artist. I have an increasing passion for old western floral designs. There are few Dootle pages that I have collected and some that are your father's work. Please share his work here, I would love to see it. Also, on our guild website, we have published Ben Moody's Rules and we would be willing to share some of your father's pointers on there as well (with your family's permission). So please share any tips or other information. Since I am artisically challenged, I depend on artists like your father and many others here to provide me with design concepts. Our guild also has a monthly newsletter that we would love the opportunity to highlight your father in an article with pictures...please share. More leather artisans need to know how your father had a part in shaping leathercraft. PM me your contact information, and we can communicate further. I appreciate you posting this thread. Best Regards!
  5. I agree with Wildrose and Bran, but I wanted to add a couple of things to consider. 1. Your leather? Before I start and pretty much during the whole process, I usually bend it back and forth in the state that it will be used. You will usually feel whether it is rough or not giving, etc. Some lower end leathers do this, some higher end stuff does not. Just depends. 2. Forming the leather while wet to the shape that it will stay in is probably the best idea. You also want to glue your interior in that same shape to keep it that way. I remember I did a bracelet where I use the tri weave stamp and when I played with the leather before adding the final coat of sheen, it felt rough and somewhat non forgiving. After placing the sheen on it and letting it dry, I went back to play with it and folded back and forth and then heard the 'crack, crack.' Next thing I see it the actual tri weave pieces tearing off the interior and following to the floor. I caught major hell at the guild meeting for this same story and was nicknamed 'Thor' because they thought I just stamped right through the leather. I've been there no once, but twice. I feel your pain! Try wet forming it and play with your leather. Let it talk to you or just upgrade to a higher quality of leather? Choice is yours.....good luck!
  6. If you get a chance, drop by a tandy store and pick up Tony Laier's book on Eco-Flo product and how to apply them for different results. I believe it is on sale for members through August? $15? Anyways, Eco-Flo is an interesting product. I have good and back luck with it. Of course, I don't believe that I have the talent or education to master these products like Mr. Laier or Hidepounder, after all, I am just a hobbyist at leather work. The moment I feel that this turns into a work, as previously said earlier, I will lay my tools down. Anyways, looking at my book here, it says to use a "highlighter" Eco Flo product for more detail highlighting than darkening. The problem that took me two years to figure out until I found this website was that I was using Tandy leather and because of their supplier's tanning process did not work out well for me. I ruined many projects. I now use Herman Oak and boy what a difference any stain or dye makes on that leather. Our guild conducts a challenge project piece every month and I recently had one of our artist members give me a paint lesson with dye. Looking at our pieces of leather (his Tandy leather & mine HO) his was almost white! But then again, his final dyed project looked beautiful. I just don't have that talent, so I have to fake it. Anyways, if you stick around Eco-Flo, invest in the book, it is really good information for anyone learning how to manipulate eco-flo products. Plus, Tony makes it look really easy... I hope Hidepounder doesn't mind, but I have hijacking his processes that I read here on how he works his leather projects. I can see some results, but I have a ways to go. good luck!
  7. Pino Send me a PM (personal message) here with your mailing address. Thanks, ATX
  8. Welcome to the forum Pino! If you need something just post it here. If I have it, it's yours! Don't be shy. Sometimes you will get a bunch of "no's", but there is a 'Yes' somewhere in there. Good luck and stay in contact By the way, nice saddle bags!
  9. Welcome to the forum! Greetings from Texas, USA
  10. Our guild president did exactly what you are needing except he did it on one sheet of leather and even included an area for final finishes, as well. It came out so nice that the Tandy store took it and now uses for their dye display. I can take a picture tomorrow and send it to you if you are interested? I don't know what he would charge to do it, but maybe I can ask him? It gave me an idea to do the same for geometric stamps. Just let me know if what you need and consider it done. I am sorry, but he is not a member here.
  11. That sucks, but they get you on the small print. I feel for you brother.

    Makers Mark

Because I am a hobbyist, I used www.lasergiftcreations.com. Ms. Brenda is a member here and should listed on the suppliers or resources. If your in business, there some other members that have used Greyghost and ISI. Look in the suppliers list. Good luck.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy and learn from each and every visit.
  14. Paul: Up at the top right hand corner, hit the 'search' button and type in 'sheridan tools or suppliers.' there should be plenty of information and resources for you to pick from.
  15. Many thanks, Steve. But I cannot take the credit. We had a guild wide competition and our now president's design won.
  16. Hello all Just wanted to announce that the Longhorn Trail Leather Guild newsletter, THE COW CARVER has been posted to our website. This month we are featuring a lengthy article by Dave Smith on the the world of swivel knifes. If you have some time out of your busy schedules, please take a look and any recommendation (especially from current editors) would be greatly appreciated! All comments will be excepted, good or bad! You will not hurt my feelings at all.........maybe our editor's feelings, but not mine! http://legendsandlies.com Thanks.

    Craftaids wanted

UKRay I like to collect the old floral craftaids only and sometimes I end up with some animal one. I only have 2-3, but you are more than welcome to have them. I will send them 1st class to you from 78728. Let me know what it would cost to ship and I will get them sent out tomorrow morning. Good luck.
  18. To piggyback on Mr. West, the paper from hidecafter is also mositure resistant. The cost at the moment is $5.99 per pack. I switched from the Tandy paper after my local store couldn't get a full roll in for a month of so. I really like the paper from Hidecrafter because I can place it in the printer and print out my favorite pattern since I am artisically challenged.
  19. Rawhide (Marlon) gave me a good recipe for doing his edges and they look awesome! Maybe he will see this and chime in to help out here. The reason I don't do it is because I have it written down and put away with my leather stuff. Not feeling really well today, so I am going to take the lazy way out. Sorry.
  20. Here is my Texas French.......Welcome to our forum. We hope that you enjoy what you see, and share what you know.
  21. I like the dollar cuff........I am looking through my mess to find something to send to you for a trade.
  22. Thanks....Keep them coming.
  23. Hey all Just wanted to let you know that our "new" website has been launched and we have some good resources and free projects available to anyone that is interested in leather work. Take a gander and see if you like it. Our newsletter is about to be launched which will have a lot of resources and patterns, plus a Q&A section. www.LegendsandLies.com Let us know how we can make it better. Thanks.
  24. Our guild is researching a project opportunity for down the road. As most of you know Tandy has the "Lucky Eight." We are thinking of putting together a book (updated) called the Texas Ten. I would like you help in identifying as many names as you can recall of master leather craftsman within the big state of Texas. We are considering publishing a book with most of the profit going to a local charity. We believe there are many leather artisans here in Texas that we can fill this book many times over, but I thought we put this out to you all to identify these Master Leather Artisans. We have come up with a few names (not exclusive by any means) but I wanted to throw a few out. We talked about this late last year, but when we heard about Mr. Ellis Barnes, we thought we should speed this project up. Publishing this book will probably not occur until 2010. 1. George Hurst 2. Troy West 3. Wayne Decker 4. Bruce Cheaney Any help would be appreciated!
