    Help Needed

Victoria: If I may suggest, look up a laser engraver in your area and they can do it if they have experience. If you would like a recommendation, you can check out one of members on here by the name of Brenda. Her website is www.lasergiftcreations.com and she has a lot of experience with leather. I have worked on several projects with her and her laser machine. Good luck and I hope this helps.
  4. Hey Steve! Welcome to the forum.
  5. Hi Josh and welcome to the forum. I agree with Twin Oaks......Luke is a hell of guy. Chance is also a great person to learn from. He did his training here in Austin, Tx and had the pleasure of meeting him. Good luck and check back in when you get a chance with photos.

  9. First, I welcome you to the forum. Typically, if you are going to stamp any pattern on Veg Tan leather you are going to cut it with a 'knife.' Now, in the since of what we think of a knife, some of this is true for this job. The knife commonly referred to as a swivel knife (because the barrel can rotate 360 degrees for turns) is used to cut a channel in the leather. Now the school of thought is that you typically want cut down to a depth of 1/2 the thickness of the leather. With this cut line, you can now use stamping tools to add depth and effects. To put this into perspective, think of the swivel knife as a pencil when drawing something. The pen will provide you a foundation and the shading and other items will add to your picture. Now, you can stamp without the swivel knife, but your lines will hard to follow. Take a look around the forum and you will find some pictures to show you what I mean. If you have a chance, purchase the 'leather working manual' at Tandy. It is the best (IMHO) beginners book to help you understand this thing we call 'leather craft!' Good question!
  10. Nice work you have here. I too like the wallets.
  11. Beautiful work you have posted here. Welcome to the forum and greetings from Central Texas!
  12. I glue a 2oz liner on my belts. It gives it a nicer finish. If you do not have access to a thin long length for a liner, just contact Hidecrafters. They sell belt liners in Veg-Tan.

  17. Good thread. I use mostly unwaxed natural cotton thread for my work. Yes, I will pull my length, wax it and burnish it into the threads. The reason for this is because I have found the cotton thread to work best for me. As for Waxing it, well I bought crap load of it and my stock will probably out last me. It is a 7 thread count and if I need to reduce it, I just pull what I need and go from there. I also have some old thread from Tandy, but I have never really liked it. I also have a stock of waxed weaved thread from Tandy and I will use this thread if I need some really strength down the road. I hope this helps.
  18. Welcome to the forum! Nice work. Thanks for sharing!
  19. I really like mine. The action is smooth and it sure looks purdy. I put it through the paces this afternoon and it did not disappoint. I just wish I would have purchased a 9.5mm barrel as well. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to own one of your awesome custom knifes.
  20. Very nice pouch. I have one on the bench.
