  1. I found this eBay ad if anyone is in the market for a patch machine. Starting bid is $300. Pick up only! http://cgi.ebay.com/Singer-Treadle-Leather-Sewing-Machine-/300558842589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45fab3fadd#ht_500wt_1156 Note: not my ad, but thought I would share it for any PA members.
  2. I really like the saddle bags.......man......nice work!
  3. I also use the Tandy Pro Groover and an old Rampart groover. What I have found is that I had to strop or polish my cutting tip right out of the bag. This will help you 90% of the time. The rest of Art's advice will get you there. As for the distance, what I was taught was that I use the thickness of the compiled leather to determine the distance, but do not exceed more than 3/8' from the edge. I say this because some makers use really thick leather like my two pancake holster that I made some years back around the belt slots for reinforcement. A couple more tricks or tips if I made impart on you (from lessons learned), if you happen to stitch too close to your edge and you notice 'bumps' or 'lumps' on your edges especially when you finish them. Your distance my be off or too close to the edge so be careful when guiding your distance. Finally, when I start my groover, unless I have practice on scrap (highly recommended), I would take a light pass to start off. Once you get the feel (or warm up to the tool) you can readjust the pressure and go for it. Good luck and Happy carving stitching!
  4. I would recommend contacting Standing Bear Leather Store in California. Ask for Sandi, she should be able to get you connected with a supply, supplier or direct you. Maybe someone else on this forum will give you a better option. Happy Carving!
  5. Ditto............but I also wanted to add that the leather has a lot to do with the performance. Good leather is good..............bad leather is well................bad so your responses will may not be the same. Either way, I know with practice your work can mirror this work in your own style. Happy carving!
  6. Awesome work.......they will definitely draw appropriate attention and you will get some inquiries........remember....they are one of kind.................at least while you are on the 'land.' Have a safe trip and enjoy the time!
  7. A wide blade yes; a stylus maybe. I have seen this maker's work before and his swivel knife work is impressive. Good luck
  8. Post some picture man......You're work is awesome. The cowboy cuff still sits on my wall.

  9. Welcome to the forum!
  10. The artist used a swivel knife with a sharp blade to make these cuts. Just Google 'Swivel knife' and see the images if you have any doubt what the item is. Good luck
  11. Interesting ad......appreciate you listing it for forum members!

  14. That looks really good! We can always use more practice. I have been off the block for a few weeks and now that I am getting back to the granite, I am finding that I better get some practice in myself. Happy Carving!
  15. He is at almost every major leather show. I am sure that he will be at the Sheridan show and couple more this summer before he and SL makes their way to the Texas Show in October. I do have to tell you that it is a lot to take in though.
  16. Try googling "grandpas past time'; he does wood working and is very reasonable in pricing. I have a couple of items from him. I look for his contact information in my computer, but I came up empty. Another option is to look on eBay for your box. There is a seller who makes what you are looking for and seems to be a hit with the buyers. I believe he is on the west coast. Happy Carving!
  17. I saw your ad on eBay. Good luck and thanks for the heads up.
  18. Welcome to the forum. Sit back and take a look around, you will find plenty of tips and advice from other members in the field you are inquiring about. Happy carving!

  20. Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting these ads.
  21. How you considered a tool roll? I use several of them for my travel case and they can hold up to two dozen of your favorite tools. They are easy to make and can be sometimes found on eBay.
  22. Really nice.......I did the same to mine and placed a lathe piece of African Purple Heart.
