  1. My wife and I took a cruise to the Caribbean and we had assigned seating for dinner each night and seated at our table was Lisa Sorrell and her husband. What a very nice lady and great leather worker. Really enjoyed talking leather with her on the cruise and also listening to some great country music (this was the Country Family Reunion 20th Anniversary Cruise). Chief
  2. Please send a catalog to chief31794@yahoo.com Chief
  3. Great looking holsters Rohn, as usual. Chief
  4. Just awesome!! Never thought of lifting my leg so I tried it, my dog looks at me kind of funny now though. Seriously, beautiful work, that stamp is hard to keep aligned. Chief
  5. Thanks Bill, I appreciate the comments. Chief
  6. Bob, you're starting to get the knack of this carving thing!!! Just kidding, absolutely awesome just as always, my opinion, Bob Parks is the best western floral carver past or present there has ever been. Your pieces are museum quality, real works of art. Chief
  7. Mostly by eye, I make a light mark for the center of the first letter, then I align the other letters on that one. I've tried some alignment guides over time but never could get any of them to work well. Sorry I don't have a more technical answer. Chief
  8. A rifle sling and a rifle stock cuff for a Marlin (can't remember the model, I think 336 or 335, I know it was in .35 caliber). Sling is 44" long, adjustable, 2-1/2" wide at the widest point tapering to 1". Butt Cuff holds 7 rounds and both are made from Hermann Oak (c), the sling from 8/9 ounce and the but cuff from 5/6 oz. Happy New Years to everyone. Chief
  9. Boy, this got into detail, I ain't got all that science, but what I've observed over the years is that a belt with two layers will hold a 1911 weight pistol with less "sag" than a single layer belt of the same thickness, that's what I based my comment on. I don't make belts for use on machinery so that may be different, but when someone wants a belt for carry, I highly recommend a double layer belt as they last longer and sag less under the same use and weight carry. Chief
  10. Two layers is much stronger, and somewhat "stiffer". The "strength" of the leather is in the grain and when you glue them, you have two grain sides resisting each other, they don't bend as well but they are much stronger. Chief
  11. The one I use is made by Black River Laser, it is my pattern, they call it the KHS Rifle Sling (Ken Harper Sling). It is 44" long, and based on the standard Cobra Design. I have most of their templates, have made videos for them on many of them and highly recommend them. Ken "Chief" Harper
  12. Thanks, that was ordered for a banjo player who plays in a Gospel Group, I wasn't particularly knowledgeable of the verse, but looked it up and it makes sense. Chief
  13. Nice, keep up the good work. Chief
  14. Nice looking stuff, someone will have a Merry Christmas. Chief
  15. Thanks, Instrument straps are my main specialty, there are mandolin and banjo straps in this mix as well, the only thing I didn't make this Christmas is a Dobro (Rephonic Guitar) strap, but they are my main item in that not many people make them at all and I attend the Resogat (reso guitarist gathering) every year in Wilkesboro, NC. Here's what they look like, I know someone's going to say they wouldn't put metal on a strap, but the way Dobro Straps are used, the buckle can never get near the instrument. This one is made especially a dobro maker in the US and he sells each of his dobros with one of my straps in the package.
  16. Items out recently, all made with Hermann Oak (c) leather. I'll be glad when Christmas is over. Chief
  17. Thanks Halitech, not sure Master is the right word, maybe "crusty old guy". I appreciate the comment though. Chief
  18. On Mexican Basket Weave (also called Round Braid), I use holes (no. 0 as stated, with no 1 on the 3 holes around the corners). For Double loop I use the slits, just personal preference but I don't like the way two pieces of lace coming out of a slit looks, just me. I think either is satisfactory and is easier and quicker to punch the slits with a thonging chisel than it is to punch round holes, I use a template for the holes to get them evenly spaced and straight, however, there is still some slight variation due to having to punch each hole individually. Chief
  19. Maybe I got a good one, never know. Mine is about 2 years old and I've replaced the tip once, use it a lot, goes through batteries pretty well, but mine works great. Chief
  20. I use a cheap thread burner that I got off of Ebay, instant on, uses 1 AA battery, battery lasts a month of so, no chance of scorching leather which I used to do from time to time when using a lighter. The point on this thing lets me burn the thread into a "Ball" recessed into the hole it came out of, locks the stitches and barely shows at all. Works exceptionally well on machine thread (277), works for hand stitching as well but takes a second or two longer to melt the thread. It looks like this. Chief
  21. Beautiful job Bob, and I am a big fan of lacing and this is super impressive. Chief
