  1. Thor, thanks for the info. I lived in Germany for about 11 years (US Army Retired), I lived in Wurzburg, Schweinfurt, and finally in Wertheim. I left Wertheim in 1985 and would like to visit Germany again some day but probably won't make it. Chief
  2. Thanks Dwight Thanks Thor, I had asked him about the name and he told me what it was about, named for an old chief. I have a lady in North West Canada that orders pretty regular, she gets wallets with Indian Symbols and names that she provides, some interesting stuff. I have attached a couple of the wallets I've done for her in the past. Chief
  3. Happy New Years to everyone, this is one of the best forums I've ever been associated with, very nice people, lots of talent, and more information than you could hope for. Hope everyone has a great 2016. This is the last project out of the shop in 2015, it was shipped to Canada on December 31, 2015. I'm not sure why, but he wanted a Wolf's head, an Indian Name of the area where he lives, and a Maple Leaf. This was the first time I'd tried using "printable" transparencies for the wolf's head and the maple leaf, they worked okay, but don't seem to have a lot of life, I think I'll keep using tracing film until my hands are too shakey to trace. Chief
  4. Absolutely beautiful work, totally top shelf. Chief
  5. Beautiful, very nice work as usual. Chief
  6. You can also just purchase Feibing's Aussie, it is a blend of beeswax, oils and other conditioners, does a great job. Chief
  7. Well, the last orders are out the door, the shop is closed and I'm packed up to make the trip to Atlanta to spend the holidays with my grand children. Had a good year, got lots of tips from folks here on Leatherworker.net, my wife and I are retired and just "Living the Dream". Gonna go play some music, have some good times, and then get back in the shop and start getting stuff made up for some music festivals this spring followed by my annual trip to Resogat in Wilkesboro, NC. to sell instrument straps to unsuspecting musicians. Goals for next year, improve carving skills, design some new products for the musician trades. Chief
  8. Again Inkscape, it has all the capability I need to draw patterns and then to print them out in PDF. Has a learning curve but there's plenty of on line help and tutorials. I've used it for years to include producing .SVG vector graphics flies that I send to Black River Laser and they use them to cut my templates on the laser. Chief
  9. I use them, I have a Barry King 3/8" Thin and a BK 1/4" Thin, and a 1/4" angled that is not thin, a 3/8" thick and I like the thin blades better, don't really have a reason why, I just do, I only use the 3/8" thick on long straight lines (I normally pull it along a straight edge like when bordering a basket weave area. I don't "carve" with the thick one, I use the thin ones for that. I don't have any science or any particular reason, I'm just partial to thin blades in a swivel knife. Chief
  10. I was keeping them sharp but it was taking a lot longer, the ceramic bench stones are terrific, much better and quicker than the diamond and Arkansas stones I was using. Chief
  11. I finally invested in Chuck Smith's "Big Red" sharpening Jig, I've used an old Tandy for years, this thing is much, much, much better, I also got the medium and fine grit ceramic stones from him. All of my swivel knives are so sharp now I can't believe it. I should have done this years ago. Great product, thanks to Chuck Smith. Chief
  12. Interesting piece. Must have been made for export, I lived in Germany for about 11 years and most of the tools and things that are made there don't have "made in", it would normally be in german. Just seemed funny that it would be marked as "Made in Wurtemburg" Chief
  13. Really nice, was wondering the same thing about the strap attachment on the Van Halen strap, I see those used on Banjo Straps a lot but I've never seen it used on Guitar Straps? Chief
  14. Very nice, very clean lines, I like! Chief
  15. Yep, your memory is way better than mine, but it was Wild Bill. Chief
  16. Thanks Bob, hope you get em' done in time. Thanks, Thanks Yep, I go up pretty often, me and someone on here (can't remember who) talked about maybe several of us meeting up some where (maybe one of the Tandy Stores, or somewhere convenient) just to meet everyone in person. I think that would be nice. My daughter and Grandchildren live in Powder Springs. Chief
  17. Happy holidays to you as well. I always find time to get in trouble Rohn. Thanks,
  18. No the deer is hand carved. Sorry. Chief
  19. All are hand carved. No stamps, the strap is hand cut as well using a template from Black River Laser.com. Thanks, Chief
  20. I close the store tonight and finish up whatever orders I have then go visit my Grandkids in Atlanta. Here's what I finished up this week. Chief
  21. I'm not sure what is the correct method, but I always do my lifting first, then bevel so that I can blend in any marks from the lifter. Chief
  22. Rifle Slings, Belts and Dobro Straps. Rifle Slings are 44" long and everything is cut from Hermann Oak©. This has been a busy week, hope this Christmas thing ends soon. Chief
  23. I think they are actually 2" on centers and yes there are five of them. THanks for the nice comments on my videos. Chief
