Thanks Thanks, On large guys, I extend the strap 2" maybe a little more for very large guys say up to 4", after that if they need more, I make the back strap longer. I hope I mentioned in the template video (I know I did in some of them) that they can be used to make larger or smaller items and how to do that. Hope that helps. Chief

Thanks, The pattern on the belt is called "Arrowhead", it's been around a long time. I have a video on youtube demonstrating how it's done. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3r71MNPm20 See post above for link to youtube video, thanks. Thanks Rohn. Chief

Chief31794 replied to Chief31794's topic in Guitar Straps
Thanks Bob, yeah it has been hectic but I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope it ain't a train!!! I've still got to get some time to use some of that Shearling I got from you, I see it next to my leather storage table all the time and say to myself, I've got to make a padded strap one of these days. Hope things are well with you. Chief -
Put these out in the last two days, got 2 more dobro, 2 belts, a phone case and a pick/bar/capo case for a dobro picker. Chief

Thanks, yeah, dobro straps run on average about 69-74" long from back pin to front loop, it's a pretty good size chunk of leather. Chief

I went to the annual Resogat in Wilkesboro, NC, it's an annual gathering of dobro players, I got several orders and these are some of the first to go out since getting home. I won't see a light at the end of the table till next week some time. I have 5 more dobro straps to make to fill orders from the show. Thanks, Chief

They are small enough that hand sewing isn't overly labor intensive, other than that I lace mine, but that's just me. I won't sew anything on a machine from the backside, because the resulting stitch on the front isn't acceptable to me. Chief

Rubber Mat Suggestion For Crystal Rivet Setting?
Chief31794 replied to JerseyFirefighter's topic in Hardware and Accessories
You can use a regular Poundo Board, the ones we put under our slabs. They do a great job on Crystal Rivets. Chief -

Welcome back. NeatLac is still available, it was always made by LCI and it sold as NeatLac through Tandy. The name of the product is ClearLac, it's available from several sources, I get mine from Springfield Leather Company. Chief

The maker's mark on these items was done with a stamp from Blackriverlaser.com, they are a member here and they also advertise on this site. I have two from them that I really like, I have one from Grey Ghost as well, it does a good job also. I have one from Phillips Engraving but I don't like it as well, the resulting stamp doesn't look as good, it could be the font I chose but I just don't care for it. My favorites of all of them are the ones from Blackriverlaser.com. Thanks, Chief

Cheryl, I'm sure it won't. Thank you, Bruce, it is a craftaid, I have some drawn patterns and use some craftaids as well. This one is Tandy Item #76622-00. It has three sizes of belt patterns in this design and I use the 2" belt size. With a Creased Border, that makes it about the right size. Chief

Thanks Rohn, Cheryl, I would have thought you'd be much younger than I, I was always told it isn't the age it's the mileage, and I've got a lot of miles accumulated in 65 years. I'm sure the strap you're making will be beautiful, they always are. Chief

Thanks Rohn, as do I yours. Thanks Cheryl, it's not hard to make, cut it out, fold and glue all the edges, then I hand sew the gusset to the front and back, makes cleaner lines inside and it's hard to get them aligned correctly when sewing on a machine, at least for me. I machine sewed the strap, the d-ring retainers, and all the exposed edges, that would have been a lot of hand sewing. Chief

Sir, The whole job was dyed using Antique Gel, the gel fills in the grooves and leaves them very dark, it's the same as the carving. Chief

1 purse from soft leather, I'd been wanting to design one of these for some time, caught some material on sale at SLC and went for it, got three sides. The other purse and phone case are going to a Mother/Daughter (daughter gets the purse with the phone case and Mom gets the phone case), the purse is 8" X 10" with a 3" gusset, the phone cases are for a galaxy 5S with Otter cover (man they're BIG), the phone case has a detachable swivel clip which is what she wanted. The later purse and phone cases are lined with Faille Fabric. Chief
