  1. I totally agree with Jbird. I bought a Cobra flatbed about a year ago. It was my first sewing machine. Steve has been the best. Even fixing it when I screwed up the machine by running it with the bobbin out and getting the thread all jammed in there. Plus now he has spent time on the phone helping me with my Luberto, which of course her didn't sell me. I'm a cobra customer for life. All because of the great customer service. Next purchase is going to be one of their strap cutting machines. I have no association with Cobra other than wanting to see a guy who helped me so much for nothing succeed.
  2. My girlfriend wanted me to put it in the garage. I told her no way, so we settled on the guest room.
  3. Thanks Ken. I only sew dry leather. I've searched the book over and over, but don't see anything about adjusting the pressure on the jump foot. I was thinking about taking the spring on the top off and putting a couple washer between it and the frame to raise it up. What do you think?
  4. I got a new to me Luberto Classic. I got the book with it, but not the DVD. The stitch is very pretty except when I try to use the stirrup plate. It leaves deep marks on the leather. I take it, it has something to do with the plate taking up room and the jump foot staying the same pressure. How do I adjust the pressure on the jump foot? Thanks in advance. Steve
  5. Thanks Art. I sew a lot of 138 top and bottom. Right now I use a 22 needle, I'm going to have to get some 19s and give it a try. I would really like the bottom hole to look smaller.
  6. Thanks for the explanation TwinOaks. So you would use the needle size that's right for the bottom thread? Like for a 277 top 207 bottom combo you would use a 180 needle?
  7. I was wondering why people sew with say, 277 on top and 207 on the bottom? What's the benefits? Thanks, Steve
  8. I need to split 5oz veg tan down to 1.5 or 2oz. Small pieces for wallets and such, but I would also like to be able to skive the edges of the wallets to make a turned edge. I also would like to be able to use the it to skive belt ends. Can a power bell knife skiver do all these jobs? Thanks, Steve
  9. I have some wickett craig drum dyed bridle leather I'm using to make belts. I'm worried about the black rubbing off, do I need to seal it? Thanks, Steve
  10. I was wondering how much extra leather you all add to a wristband to get a good fit. Let's say a 7in wrist, 5/6oz leather, how much do you add between the holes you punch to put snaps in. Thanks, Steve
  11. I'm looking for some 1 1/4 inch rectangle center bar buckles with a silver/nickle/brushed aluminum finish. They need to be high end nice ones. Does anyone have any ideas, besides weaver and ohio travel bag? Thanks, Steve
  12. I screwed up my sewing machine. I was trying to use the bobbin winder on the machine without a bobbin in the bobbin case, it picked up some tread and jammed the crap out of it. Needless to say I took it apart and totally screwed everything up. I called Steve. He told me "I'll be up there next Saturday if you can wait." I told him I couldn't and then he said "Why don't you take the hour drive to out Ontario warehouse." So I did. I took some of the leather I use most and Tony fixed my screw up, plus set it up for that leather, and gave me some extra bobbins. All at no charge. It was totally a screw up on my part and most places would have for sure charged me. Plus a got a little sewing lesson. Thanks guys! Steve
  13. I've seen those but I didn't know they were for Sam Brown studs. They have oval and round, I wonder which is best?
  14. Does someone sell a Sam Brown stud hole punch, with a hole and slit? Thanks, Steve

    Loop Irons

I need a loop iron for keepers that go on 1/2 inch straps. Does anyone know who sells them? Thanks, Steve
  17. Thanks guys, that is a lot of help. I have it sorted out now by adjusting the bobbin tension. I really like how the stitches are looking now. I remember this thread the next time it messes up. Steve
  18. I did that of course but it didn't help tighten up the bottom that much, It just pulled the bottom thread through the top. I played around with the bobbin tension and that seemed to help, but I still get a non-uniform stitch every so often. Wonky: http://www.urbandict....php?term=wonky
  19. That top stitch looks great, the bottom not so much. When I go around corners it gets a little wonky. Is there a way to get a tighter bottom stitch with a sewing machine? Is that my problem? Thanks, Steve
  20. How do you know when it's time to replace the needle on a sewing machine? Should they be stropped with rouge? Thanks, Steve
  21. Very nice Andy. Is it lined? Are there any dividers inside?
  22. Thank for the offer Joe, but I was experimenting and found something else that I like. I power burnish with saddle soap and then apply Angelus neutral shoe wax, then hand buff.
