Jack, Have you thought of checking your area for a public vocational school that teaches auto upholstery? If you sign up for a class I bet they're let you use their machines on some of your own projects.

Fixing The Backside Of My Machine Stitch...

If the needle is good and the bobbin and thread tension is correct I just tap the back side down with a cobbler's hammer. -
Thanks for sharing.

First Attempt At Making A Bag. (Gusset Questions)
Kustom replied to mrtreat32's topic in How Do I Do That?
Watch this video and apply it to a bigger bag. -
I also wonder about the effects of spaying a spool of thread with silicon, as far as longevity goes.

I use bonded nylon on everything. I wonder how leather conditioner effects thread (nylon and polyester) as far as breaking down goes.

Are you sewing outdoor gear?

What I found helpful before I ever bought a machine was to go to a leatherworker's convention and check out the different sewing machines. If you can wait until Oct. you can go to http://www.bootandsaddlemakertradeshow.com/Home.html in Wichita Falls, TX. Check first to see who will be there though.

First Attempt At Making A Bag. (Gusset Questions)
Kustom replied to mrtreat32's topic in How Do I Do That?
The day tripper bag is made out of soft leather. It doesn't have a gusset per say. It's two pieces of leather with a square cut out on each side of the bottom of both pieces. It is sewn inside out and turned when finished. The pieces are sewn together at the bottom. The squares are pushed together and sewn, then turned inside out, -

Obvious a knock off of FO Baird's Leather Secrets. -
Thanks.

Tex Shooter and Glendon, did you just email a pdf of your pattern?
-
That is strange. Have you tried casing the leather to see if it takes water? If it has some kind of sealer I'm guessing it wouldn't.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will give them a try on my next dies. I was a little under whelmed by the last couple of dies I had made up by a local guy.

I don't own a cobra 4. I have a cobra 17 and a Luberto Classic. My Luberto Classic will sew 3/4 inch leather all day long. I didn't recommend it because they're not being made any more and are harder to find than the 441 clones. Without a doubt I recommended Cobra Steve because I've done business with him and he's taken care of me. The Cowboy is probably a great machine, but I haven't done business with them. If I recommended them it would be a guess and not from personal experience.

You should get a Cobra class 4 from leather machine company.

Just have her return it for a refund. Good news is you're getting the jerks out of the way up front. I've had over 1500 sales on esty and only two nasty customers.

Classic English Briefcase

Well done! -
Thanks Constabulary. I wonder if the narrow arm is better for bag gussets, or if the 227r works just fine?
-
Does anyone have any insight as far as the difference between the Consew 227R and 277R?
-
Is one better than the other for small items like wallets? Is it just a matter of personal taste? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know anyone in Los Angeles that has a bandknife spitter that can split down some leather for me? Thanks, Steve
