  1. On Andrew Wrigley's video's, 2 of the videos deteriorated badly i could hardly see what he's doing (Video 7 & 8) - it was about Lasting the shoe - where he was pulling the leather and putting nails so it gets the toe box shape.. I looked up other videos and found Tim Skyrme - he explained those parts quiet well.
  2. Yeah... this one isn't supposed to be daunting to us. we're native to leathercraft unlike common people, but the topic of leather shoemaking seems a completely different art when its brought up. and i see there aren't really a lot of content in this forum about the subject. whats her username in Youtube?... I will look her up the one I previously was watching was andrew Wrigley
  3. I've seen youtube videos about shoemaking and unfortunately, the video quality was hard to see because it was VGA, and the creator hardly replies. I had a background of making small leather Items such as wallets, organizers and such - and even a couple bags. I'm happy with my stitching. I never had any experience or Idea about shoemaking - It looks all daunting. If i can, I wanted to create my own shoe, so its Mens shoes and probably a little traditional in the manner of creating using lasts, but the materials would be a little modern. 1.) are Chrome Tanned leathers ok to use?... and what leathers are Not OK for such applications?... the leathers i have are: Chrome tanned Cow hides - on several Finishes, some Nubuck Leather, some pigs hide (0.8mm thick), and some goat hide(0.9mm thick), and some Cow Hide for tooling thats about 2-3 mm thick.. The local shop that sells leathers doesn't always have calf hides so I'm thinking about possible alternatives. 2.) whats a good thickness? -i'm guessing goat hides would probably be a bad Idea for the top part of the shoe... 3.) Do i need the strechy part of the hide? 4.).. can I use the tooling leather for the soles? 5.) I saw someone using a stitching awl for the good year welt - it looked like the tip of the needle was a hook because it was pulling the thread in, but when he started, the thread wasn't really inserted into the needle. - is that right?.. 6.) Can someone post pics of the Bare minimum tools to make shoes? - all handmade - i dont have a sewing machine.
  4. some good linings i know would be pigs hide - some are fairly thin so you wont need to skive. - i believe saddleback leather uses pigs hide on their linings. if not, then maybe goats hide - these are still thin, but some are a little stiff. if you go for fabric, some canvas looks good too
  5. definitely a beautiful piece. if you can make that one, then you can compete with the greatest brands.
  6. the bag looks great i'm sure she'll appreciate it. some tips i have would be 1.) to reinforce the strip on the sides that holds the metal rings towards the strap. That part always breaks first on any bag. 2.) on the opening of the bag - to fold in the edges before stitching so it wouldn't bulge. hmmmm and maybe to widen a bit the closure or maybe a zipper
  7. leather that i wouldn't work with... hmmmm 1.) Thick tooling leather - where i live at, there's hardly any people who can appreciate it and it takes much more time to produce. Unfortunately, the chinese trade of synthetics has caused people's estimate of the price of leather to a lower level. I'm not desperate yet. 2.) some poor quality leather, - you'll want to test the leathers, first by stretching it as much as you can, if it shows cracks - that bad leather that will deteriorate on high tension applications. Next, you want to try tear the leather by hand - if you can tear it, it's weak leather. 3.) Some Very Thick leather - i prefer not to work with these, it takes too much effort to punch holes and stitch, and when its completed, its very Bulky. if its hard to fold in itself, then its too thick for me.
  8. has anyone tried using this Letter stamp set on soft leathers, such as goat hides, nubuck and some Chrome tanned leather? https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/easy-to-do-stamp-set-alphabet-0-6-cm-1-4 when i tried my Branding iron on goat hide and nubuck, it didn't really hold the impression very well. Over time it slowly fades until its hardly readable.
  9. this is a really good looking bag i'm impressed, and i'm sure if you put something like this up for sale, it would definitely be sold.. hmmmm, maybe in a matter of 2 weeks, depending on the price good work!
  10. what i'm about to put was a series of pictures, and adding a catch phrase to it, so it doesnt exactly have to be just one... AND... i'm selling it only to one region - not international... i dont think no one else in this website has the same location as i do...
  11. thanks Art, i think that sounds cool
  12. whats a good leather catch phrase?, give me some good catch phrases... I'll need several ones (probably about 10) that has some good buzz... something that'll add appeal to leather something that'll make them think, if its leather - its highclass - somewhat proud and elegant
  13. How do you burnish flimsy leather's edge?... i have some nice oil tanned leather thats about 2.2 mm thick but is very supple enough that its soft to touch and difficult to burnish by hand... i dont have some hand tools to burnish by machine, so i was wondering what would an expert do?... i also noticed some chrome tanned leather bags with leathers that are sooo crazy soft and have burnished edges... this made me wonder, how on earth did they burnish those?...
  14. Hi folks, I'm with the workforce team.. We manage how many people get hired and how many are scheduled to work in a certain time of the day to do a certain workload. I'm not more than 5 years yet on this Job, and this is my first Job.. Still approaching 30's
  15. @ Erystawi i'd love to know your results. post them here when you can . i didnt want to spend a lot for a can of woodstain only to use a table spoon for testing so i wanted to ask I agree trying out new things are fun. Its the best way to come up with a discovery that may seem sloppy at first
  16. Hi! has anyone ever tried woodstain or varnish on leather products?.. if yes, how did it went? i have not tried it yet as a can of woodstain costs some.. and there's no where i could find better Dyes so i'm resulting to unconventional ideas
