He asked for a purple fabric liner however I was able to change that to a little left over suede from a previous job. 5 card slots with a bill flap and receipt pocket behind the cards. I am not sure what you mean by the stitching looking not good. It looks pretty good for someone just starting out, it loos a lot better than some of my first stitches. I really like the color and simple tooling work very well on this wallet. The tooling is something you just need to keep practicing on, there are a lot of free tutorials on line (YOUTUBE) two of my favorites are Mr. Don Gonzales and Mr. Bruce Chaney. Like Sturme said the liner can be very thin, I often use fabric for liners to help keep the bulk down. A good source for inexpensive liner leather is old purses I find at swap meets thrift stores. I also buy new bandannas and use those. Keep up the good work ,

Yeah typo, I meant the 3200. Thanks for the offer of help, I think the stitching issues came from lack of forward planing. I ended up having a hard time keeping it under the presser foot. That caused it to wander a little. I learned a little more that day.

You may have missed the part where I wrote "your thoughts and comments always welcome" I'm not pandering for anything except input from others that like to work with leather. First lets agree that "aesthetics" is a personal point of view, your likes may not be the same as mine. I like the tooling, I like the two tone, I like that I tried to build a purse and I don't like the stitching. At 63 years old it takes a lot to Hurt my feelings and you're honest critique sure isn't going to do it, it won't even move the needle.

I want to try sewing small exotics into wallets, belts and what not, but I need to learn more about these skins. I see glazed and non glazed lizard skins for sale, My question is can the non glazed be dyed and or oiled? Thanks in advance.

I have the 3200 as my first machine and it is great. With that said I found a used flat bed machine for wallets. The 3200 wants to sew heavy leather and wallets can be a challenge on them. If your main sewing need is for wallets and such, let me recommend a nice flatbed for your first machine. Wizcrafts has posted a fantastic thread on sewing machines read it here. My PFAFF 145 (n) will eat 8 oz all day and is a dream on lighter wallet work. This is only my opinion and worth every penny you paid for it.

My golf partner asked me to make a purse for his wife in time for her birthday. Now I have a habit of biting off more than I can chew, so I said I'd be honored. I'm not too proud to say that this one taught me a few hard lessons during the construction phase. All in all I'm happy with the final product and she loves it., Lined with green fabric in her favorite shade of green with a zippered pouch. 8/9 oz body and straps, hand tooled with craftaid pattern. Sewn on Cowboy 2300, and some hand stitching, 207 thread 16X12X3 You thoughts and comments always welcome.

I have always wanted a SA wheel gun so I picked up a Cimarron Pistolero in .45lc. a couple of months ago. It's been sitting in my safe waiting for me to get in wrapped in leather and I finally got to it. Well mostly, I still need to treat the edges. My version of a basic natural tan, single layer of 10/12 veg tan holster with one layer of 8/9 with a 4/5 liner. Single run loops riveted between each of the loops. Sewn on a Cowboy 3200, 277 thread. Your thoughts and helpful critiques always welcome.

Well I got up early this morning had coffee and went out to the shop and installed the servo motor I had bought from Bob at Toledo Sewing. Once I finished that I put a little 138 top and 92 bottom thread in it and gave it it's first test run. The results were better than I could hope for from a machine that has been sitting dirty and unused for so long. I can't wait for my order to get here so I can try different needles and thread sizes. I'm holding off on two wallet orders I have so I can use this machine to sew them up vs, sewing by hand. I'm happy I bought this machine yesterday I think it's going to fit my needs quiet well. I will need to set up the foot pedal as the geometry isn't very comfortable for me. I have an idea to use a gas pedal out of an older hot rod that has been hanging in my garage for a long time. I think that will get it where I like it and looks mighty fancy to boot. Once I finished with the test run, I gave Bob a call at Toldeo Sewing and ordered up an assortment of needles and threads in various color and a handful of bobbins. If you looking for customer service to go along with knowledge Bob Stands out in my book. Give him a call, you won't be sorry. Gere's a couple of pictures. I used the needle that came on the machine. Its fairly large however the markings on the needle are scratched up pretty good so I couldn't make out the size. 138 top and 92 in the bobbin. One pic is two layers of 3-4 vegtan with a fold over to make it 3 layers. The other pic is 3 layers of old dry hard 5-6 scrap I had laying around. The walking foot "walked" right over those transitions

Hi all y'all. It been a long time since I've posed, mostly because I don't have much to say that hasn't been asked and or answered by the gurus here. Anyway I have tried a few times to sew lighter leathers for wallets and such on my Cowboy 3200, which I love but we all know it was not made for that kind of work. I started to hunt for a light to mid weight table top machine to fill the void between the 3200 and a PFAFF 130 I have for sewing fabric interiors on wallets, bags and purses. I found this 145 about 30 miles from me on Craigslist so I drove out to take a look. Unfortunately The clutch for the motor drive had been taken off so I was not able to test it on site, however with a little spray gun lube (it was put away dirty several years ago) I was able to spin it by hand and look at all the moving parts. Everything looked pretty good to my untrained eye so I made an offer, he counter offered and met in the middle and it was mine. As I go through it and clean\lube it up well and mount the servo I got from Mr. Kovar at Toledo Sewing (Same place I ordered my 3200 from) I'll post an update. I have specific question. What is the range of thread I can expect good results with Min size to Max for this machine? Thanks in Advance for your input, and thanks for all you've already taught me. Fredo San Diego CA.

SJ, basically that's exactly what I did. I took out the stitching along the bottom and up the sides about a third of the way and replaced the card slot with a full width bill/document slot. I did not hand stitch it but I was able to hit the same holes with my machine (Cowboy 3200)

This is the best answer so far guys, well it made me laugh. I came up with a fixed that worked for me, I'll put it in the discount bin when I go vend at the swap meet. For now, here's wat I came up with and I even like it better this way.

You know how it is, you get going on a project, you're making progress and you even like the color and the liner. Then you see it, there it is right there staring you in the face. It's a small mistake made at the worse time possible. You have a choice, you can cry, throw your coffee mug or worse your last ice cold beer. Or you can just call yourself a dummy and laugh it off. I'm laughing now but I sure I'm going to miss that coffee mug.
