  1. That is gorgeous, I love the simplicity and color. Did you come up with the pattern? If not whos pattern did you use?
  2. In anticipation of the arrival of my new Cowboy 3200 I decided to move some things around in my shop (10X12 Tuffshed). While I was doing that I found a old idea I had of making a tool rack out of a expandable plastic spice rack. Since then come hollow I filled it with expandable insulation foam from a spray can. I finally drilled some holes in, it works great. Not the prettiest girl at the ball but it will pick corn. About 100 tools in it right now and room for plenty more. Also a shot of my tooling, cutting bench, I have a chunk of granite I put up there when I am ready to tool. I will soon replace that with a 4X18X24 granite calibration plate I picked up at a hot rod swap meet a few years ago. Once the Cowboy shows up I'll have a pretty good set up I think. Singer 111W155 for the lighter stuff and the Cowboy for holsters and heavy gun belts. One thing I noticed was as I get older I need more light. I'm tired of buying the 2 tube florescent shop lights I may see if I can find some LED track lighting on Craigslist. Boy buy one sewing machine and the work starts HA!
  3. Nice holsters I'm especially in love with the OD green and black 1911. I hate to pile on but yes, 1911 is safe in condition 1, AKA Cocked and Locked with three safeties built in (2 automatic and one manual) it may be the safest pistol in the world. Here's mine
  4. Thanks for the info Wizcraft, I re threaded the machine and added a little to the bobbin tension. Looks like it's working fine now.
  5. I have a problem with making 90* turns on wallets and other light leather items. I'm sewing on a Singer 111W155 with servo motor conversion. The corner thread is pulled to the inside of the turn It happens most of the time but not always. Picture attached. Thank in advance for your help and advice. Fredo San Diego CA
  6. I have and use a the Singer 111W155. No reverse is a small issue at best. However almost everything I'm sewing is sized where I can spin the work around and back stitch so keep became that in mind, but for belts wallets and light weight holsters its joy to use. I have done the servo motor conversions, that made all of the difference. Here's a belt I recently did. 5-6 with a 3-4 liner.
  7. Those knives and that stamp are outstanding, No fair teasing us with a high quality product and not give us contact information. I sent you a personal message asking you to post the contact information. Thanks in advance
  8. This is very nice, I have to get a smoke wagon soon. Safe is full of damn 1911s
  9. Hi, folks will need a bit more information. Where do you live? For instance I would not be able to do this without access to your badge so location is crucial. There is a section on here called "Help Wanted" you should post your request there, more folks would see it there. Fredo San Diego CA
  10. Not able to help you with the size, but I'd bet you can match it by taking the clasp to home depot. You'll either find them in the bags or in the drawers in the hardware section. If really small and HD doesn't have it try an electronics supply place like radio shack.
  11. Depending on your budget, I carry my own steak knife when I go out to eat. I hate a dull knife for a great steak. Anyway, there is a knife called the bone collector on e-bay I buy as gifts for family and close friends. It's hand made in America and around 12 bucks each. That in a nice sheath would be a life long keep sake..... This is the one I use, but he has many styles. http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-5-BONE-COLLECTOR-FIXED-BLADE-SKINNING-KNIFE-Hunting-Bowie-BONE-BC-790-/291494591759?hash=item43de6e7d0f:g:ZTAAAOSw3ydVgYAu
  12. Nice work on the clip idea. As a "gun guy" I think you'll find the slightly smaller snap caps will work perfect, you want the real bullets to fit tight, so as the leather ages, it should be about perfect.
  13. I guess it depends on why you are gluing. I glue right before I sew just to keep things lined up. I use weldwood and allow it to set up just like you do, I follow that up with a cobblers hamer to set it nice and flat. However I never use glue (contact cement) as a stand alone way of keeping multi layers together.
  14. I have used a paint stir stick carved to match the shape/size and location of the rail. The owner of the pistol should be able to supply you with a photo and needed measurements. You really don't need to cut in the mounting groves.
  15. First, just start. Like you said you know about wetting (casing) the leather, how to transfer the art work you want, and using the swivel knife. The order I use is *Case the leather CORRECTLY and that includes being able to wait for it to be ready to carve and tool. *Transfer the art to your correctly cased leather *strop your swivel knife, you need your knife to be sharp for easy flow and clean lines. *cut the art work out. *add a backing tape to the back of the leather * start the tooling, now stop and make sure your leather isn't too wet or possibly too dry. If you're getting a nice burnish on the tooling you're moister is about right. *dye your work let dry, over night is good *seal the flesh side and let dry, over night is good *seal the outside (I use mop and glo @ 1 to 1 with water) let dry, over night is good. *stitch it up enjoy your sheath.
  16. I know it's not much but when I was starting out I loved when folks shared the simple patterns. It sure helped me learn as I went. These are made from small pieces I find in my scrap pile. I still can't use my sewing machine or draw flowers but I'm not giving up.... Anyway if you can use this simple business card pattern, feel free to use it anyway you like. Size shown is finished, I like to make these about 1/4' larger over all so I can trim to the stitch line and give myself a nice clean edge to burnish. Fredo, San Diego CA
  17. Thanks, like te OD green I need to mix up, that's my version of OxBlood, Ecoflow Red with a few drops of Ecoflow Bordeaux.
  18. 1st. Special Thanks to JLS for his generous sharing of patterns. I decided that while trying to learn to use my new to me Singer 111W155 I would try out a few minimalist wallets. I used JLS' free pattern share for the project. I still need a little practice with the machine but I like the wallet A lot. I've been giving them out to friends like candy! Thanks again JLS
  19. I want to be able to make a few card wallets for friends from my Army days. (1973-1975) so I would like to dye my leather OD Green. All I'm able to come up with is mixing acrylics but cant come up with a dye that will work for my project. Any ideas of any one know of a supplier? Thanks in advance. Fredo San Diego CA
  20. One way is to drill the ram and use a set screw to secure your dies. Of course that depends on what the dies look like? Do you have pics of the dies?
  21. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I'll fiddle around with it some more.
  22. So a few weeks ago I bought a singer 111W155, contacted Bob at Toledo Sewing for a servo motor. I've been getting better and learning how to use this (My first ever sewing machine) However I cant figure out how to stop this issue. When sewing up a wallet (THANKS JLS) I get a loose loop when I transition from double layer to single layer. I have the tension correct for the project 4/5 oz. veg tan running 138 thread top and bottom through #22 needle. I'm wondering if it is the lack of contact cement in the area of one layer? (Water based Weldwood) I hope I explained it right, anyway here's a picture of the area I'm having trouble. Thanks in advance!! Fredo, San Diego CA
  23. Thanks Dwight, the only hard part about making this was keeping my self from making Army vs. Marine Jokes.......
  24. Agreed the thickness is the same. I like molding only the front panel because I feel it is more comfortable and looks better. Of course this is all conjecture because I live in San Diego CA. The chances of the average good guy getting a permit is slim to none. Thanks to our sheriff who feels citizens with guns is a bad thing. Unless you are a big donor to his campaign.
  25. Bob is a good man and will get all of the business I can send his way. Unfortunately, a new machine is out of my budget. So I'm looking for input on the FERDCO 440
