I have always wanted to make me one, so I did. I did the Bruce Springsteen copy of his pickguard. Been done a million times, but it's mine.

It's fun watching another creative mind at work. I see the gears grinding.

That's really nice. I want to try my hand at making myself one. Is there a certain pattern you used.or is it your own? -
Those are freakin' sweet. Nice job.

I'm with @bikermutt07. It sounds like something else is going on. I have worked in the construction field all my life. I am also cheap. I use a rubber mallet I bought at the dollar store with scrap leather glued on the ends and have no problem making impressions while tooling. 2 whacks at the most. Also are you using a good hard surface under your work? Such as a marble slab?

Welcome to the forum. The smell of leather is addicting.

Is it possible to straighten veg tan strips that have been cut crooked off of the side? 3 inch wide in particular. I am making guitar straps, so dog legs are not good. Just didn't know if it was possible to wet the leather and pull it back in shape and let it dry, would it stay?

Welcome to the forum. I am new here as well.

Just my 2 cents, but before I would source out a bender, the metal and the time to make the loop. I would go buy one already made for under 5 bucks, and remove it from the leather and use it on your leather.

Hello all, been lurking a bit on this forum and thought I would join up. I have had all sorts of hobbies in my time. They have covered the gambit. It all started with leather after my son took up guitar playing. As it progressed a strap was needed. Of course I went for the cheapest stuff at first. After spending time looking at straps the leather ones sure were nice, so it began. I wondered to myself if I could make one. Just one, lol. Well I did, it didn't turn out bad, but you can imagine there had to be the learning experience in there somewhere. So I made another one, then another. Pretty soon some folks started to take notice and asked if I would make them one. Before I know it without trying I am up to #35 under my belt. This was just supposed to be a hobby, I am keeping my day job for now. Look forward to learning and maybe lending my advice from time to time. Thanks, Bodean Just a few pics
