In addition, your first mistake was considering us as strangers... I am a little offended by that to be honest. Everyone I talk to here I consider to be at minimal acquaintances, more than likely, Like minded souls, and some even good friends...

NASTY Maybe it was jealous you didn't make it something nice

Probably because nothing about my attitude screams diminutive little restricted country thats going no where??? Probably because nothing about my attitude screams diminutive little restricted country thats going no where???

Given the expensive nature of importing skins, I am thinking us UK braiders should get together and import collectively. I will be looking at least two, perhaps three skins soon most likely before christmas anyhow to give me something to do over the holidays. I am thinking of skins from Richard taubman who has the standard five colours and a few others, jade, red, blue green etc...And white Anyone interested? I will bump this probably once a week until I am ready to order myself. It would be nice to order 20 or so skins at least.... Stick your name down..

Or quality presumably... Thats given me an idea, but I will not change this thread too much further.
-
Indeed, great work, looks like a great quality lace too. What did you use for it?
-
So your thinking of selling lace too? What sort of prep?
-
Shipping certainly is not cheap and it is in fact one of my biggest costing issues. I cannot guarantee set prices because of material costs varying due to ecological disasters and what not and then shipping a product which has licensing issues is even worse with all the handling fees etc... I am starting to think getting onto small postal companies based in the area i am buying from, and arranging a contract with them to do all my exporting as long as they can guarantee prices for me which beat the means I am currently using...

The ziploc idea sounds great but I would add one more thing to it, tie a knot in the end of the lace, and secure this in the bag at the corner to be snipped with an elastic, add dye as normal then snip as normal but the end of the lace is ready to grasp, Tip the bag to the snipped bag is on top then pull the lace out wearing gloves but using friction inside the bag, this should drain off any excess and ensure your dye lasts longer.

I would be happy to discuss trading option, either with my braiding, or my jewellery, Most likely my jewellery, as most of you have access to braided leather gear cheaper than I do. However I would trade for good quality hand cut laces too... I would love one of Kevin Kings wallets, they are simply stunning. I would love second hand braiding work tools if you have found a better system than an old one you have lying around...eg, entiendo, if you ever find your aussie strander... Talk to me if you like my stuff, and see what happens eh... Good idea for a thread btw and bump.

Taubman is definitely the route I will be taking for my hides when I am buying in hides. But, Entiendo, where were you getting your coloured hides from? I didn't think Taubman does more than the standard five colours. I love the idea of purple and black myself, but it would be red/black purple/black combos most likely, Yeah I know it's a guy thing... And aqua blue sounds pretty cool too actually.

Keep up the pics Knotty, I don't mind this thread turning into a step by step on roo prep to finished product type dealyo

Nice work, I love the shadow effect it creates from a distance. I think the whip I recently made for a friend would match a belt pattern like that perfectly. If you were going to add 2 strands of another colour (pink) (in a mix of natural and purple), where would you put them in the sequence?
-
I have never actually tried making scarf slides...Not sure we would have much call for them in this country where most people would pay less than the material cost of leather on the scarf itself... I think I like your beveled one better, the knot stands out more.
-
Even more impressive that it came out like that. Have you played much with croc braids in multiple tones?
-
I like that a lot. Makes a change from all of us making round braid works... Love the braid work and colour choice, Hey, Has that been like flattened like rolled? It's all very even and neat. And the pineapple shows no sign of stretched lace, excellent.

Thanks for that, his work is incredible.

Red And Black Leather Bustier
8thsinner replied to chazbot's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
I have done a bra in leather that thick once, it took several attempts, but you can get darts set in place with rivets. Just burnish the edges and I would say thats a fine job. -
As we are a forum with a heavy focus on hand tools I figured I would ask if anyone can or knows anyone who can turn and carve horn? I am after something such as the following. The scales are taken form a straight I just brought, the blade shown is from a different blade which will fit the scales. The badger brush bristles I can supply as a knot ready to glue in. Scales are easy to get in water buffalo horn but I would need someone to carve the pattern. The scales have a direct copy available for ease. The brush is the main thing, Modeled after a 1905 walking cane handle to match the early 1900's scales, I can only provide several pictures. But any sheridan designer can probably get something easy. Even more tricky, I want the size of it to be just right to have a screw section so that a shaving stick can be screwed into the brush itself.

I like it. I am fairly sure you can do better with it, but the shape and size to me is something I would look for when purchasing, or making my own, Big enough to grip easy, slim enough to not stick out of the pocket too much and a nice shape to act as a axial point if you need to swing your keys hard and fast. (at flies) lol

Thanks very much. You should link in to our face book too

Thanks for sharing that link by the way, I had looked for bristles sellers on google but found nothing helpful. If I ever get around to this I will keep you all posted.

Just don't steal all my customers... Good job on making one though, did your neighbor buy it?
