  1. I would have to agree with the cutting it from a round, at least thats how I would go about it. The other alternative is to offer a braided version even a 12 strand round hammered flat might do???
  2. I had no idea there was a yahoo group, We aren't using any books as of yet, although there are lots of patterns in ABOK for the style. I had the idea originally since I bought my first silk braided sageo. And this pattern is probably the most well known and easiest to do but like I said it was a test. Thanks for the suggestions though
  3. As primarily a braider I will be ordering lots of lacing stuff of course, but I would like to have my own cutter/splitter tool made, so can anyone recommend a mechanical engineer with the means to make a new system up? UK or europe is better as I want access and testing during production. (10 in one tool) I am definately after a sewing machine, recommendations for a UK supplier would be great as all I can find in the UK are singers that now way look tough enough for belts and things I am wanting to do. I previously had a recommendation for a machine that can stitch with artificial sinew and I would like that still. But couldn't actually find it so any others would be nice. I want a full setup on rivet pressing, snap studs, eyelets etc, Prevo have decent enough prices but I was hoping to find somewhere that sold the press and bits as a set... The recent thread about having a Logo stamp made will do for our stamping needs. I think I will be ordering some roo from springfield on the discounted special as I haven't much experience cutting roo. I need punches in solid form but might get an al stohl set for portability. I haven't listed everything I am wanting here but is there anything I might be forgetting, things that you maybe forgot about etc...
  4. We have started playing with japanese braiding styles and came up with this cute little item. This is just the bracelet version, we have a necklace finished and also a dog lead that were waiting for hardware to finish. only it's done in thick 2mm. In the japanese way this is very basic but I think it works really well.

    Show And Tell

Wow, Wow, Wow... ... ... Cant think of much else to say, very impressive work, love the bosal on the left.
  6. At the moment we can barely afford any upgrades in materials but we can probably cover postage. If you have any horse hair loose or twisted into strings that you aren't likely to use please send them our way. We have some new designs in leather braiding following Japanese methods and my partner has seen some awesome patterns in horse hair, she really wants to be a part of the production process and this is really her own way in being similar to what she knows from her hobbies. It doesn't matter what colour it is or even the state probably as long as it's not falling apart and would look good enough to sample patterns and ideas for picture purposes. A very big thank you to anyone who can help. Hell if you can spare a lot we will send you back a product to show it's use.

    Dying String

If you find out some good sources for colour fasting the dyes in raw or roo, let us now, I found that the alder bark, used to be rubbed straight into the leather (dry) about half a dozen times leaving to sit over night.
  8. Bu the slightly burned edge on the right side loop, I would guess a drill/dremel burnisher was used.

    Dying String

That RIT has been recommended for me by someone else in here who used it for chaps all the time with some very good results, I never got around to using it though due to the price over in this country.

    Dying String

I have one idea for you entiendo, Tie it to the roof of the car and visit the best car wash in town, it'll come up all polished and shiny.... Sorry but that other post put me in a jokey mood. But I look forward to the responses myself, maybe some info will stick for when I need it myself.
  12. Well if you had gotten rid of them, I coulda popped some back in the post for you at a reasonable rate...lol I have been tempted to ask a few braiders here to cut laces for me to save costs, if you only need a little at a time for the odd bracelet cuff or something it ends up cheaper then buying a whole hide to cut and leave sitting around for months at a time...But I still want to eventually braid with nothing but roo...
  13. I would recommend checking this place out too. http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/
  14. I thought at least that a few cowboys in here would like this? If your not liking it, please say so. I know its not a traditional sort of design, but I thought it would go down well none the less..
  15. Back packing with a stall. Over the weekend there we had our second stall, our first was simple enough in our own town, but this one was down in offaly, outside dublin, using public transport it's a total 6-7 hour journey. We had a list of bags covering camping supplies, food, leather tools, and of course products. The problem is, it's damned heavy and we are wondering if anyone else has to use public transport getting to things like this and how you manage. Or if you dont have experience perhaps some advice in general, or any thoughts outside the box...
  16. Glad you like them, So apparently did our first viewer and customer over the weekend. The very top one we call Nox, went within about 15 minutes by one of the security staff at the event... It's giving me a lot of confidence that our stuff is going to get out into peoples awareness.
  17. Doing the stall at the weekend, I ran out of things to make, like stock for display so tried something new for myself instead. Here are a couple of pictures to show it. It uses our regular stock of beads, and I am going to make a bolo to match the rondo shown. I have already received a pre-order for it as a fathers day gift too which is pretty cool. But I love it myself and hope you guys do too.
  18. Look for that next week then, too busy to go into it today
  19. That looks exactly like the stuff I get from LeathercordUSA.com - 2mm round lace... Here it is in black, it's from the natural dyed section not the regular colour section. We happily received a full selection of samples in a nice display too when we asked for it.
  20. Well I have to say I haven't much experience with clothing, I just do a lot of research and with corsets kinda picked up what I have already, naturally. You just need to make one to start, make notes on all the mistakes and then see how it goes. I will say though your right about time and stuff for it. Mine took three weeks sort of on and of, but it would be about 40 hours straight all in all. 21. I thought I would share some of new range of bracelets, combining pewter, silver, leather and steel....Now with new matching clasp system. And a couple of versions with the new clasps showing.
  22. I like these a lot. How much are you selling them for, and have you thought about other themes? I would like a set of bamboo (katana) if it's possible...and maybe even one for my tanto though it is home made so sizes could be tricky.

    Flogger

Thats a nice simple flogger design well finished and looks to be well made. The pineapples might need to be made a little bigger though.
  24. Is that a hand braided bolo lanyard? I like the traditional leather piece handle. What stone is going to fit in there?
  25. Can you fully explain this amonia test and any others that we should be aware of. I am sorry to hear you have been subjected to so many fraudulent companies.
