Nice. I've been thinking of making a couple mugs for me and some friends who do the ren fest stuff. Good job, can't wait to see the next ones.

We use foam covered solid core weapons. It's a full contact event with no armor requirement so we baseball swing each other with no padding. The weapons are checked quite often for breakdown and proper building. I just got a new digi cam so I'll post some pics of my weapons when I get home in the morning. Quick story to give an idea about the intensity of our fighting. My friend went to block a mace and was hit in the fist with the shaft, it smashed into pieces and nearly broke his hand. It tore the skin off his knuckles and now (almost a month later) it still hurts to use his hand. The core was 1/2 inch pvc pipe wrapped with a small layer of foam (courtesy padding since it wasn't the actual striking surface) and hockey tape.

Here's that pic I promised. The onyl one I have for now that has my armor on. I fight most of the time without it since it's more in persona to fight bare.

Yeah I read all those threads about the actual accurate reenactment vikings. Pretty neat stuff taht I didn't know. I'm actually going to make myself a kyrtle to wear for my fighting garb.

Unfortunately not until I get home. I'll write myself a note to make sure to post a pic of it since I'm horrid at remembering anything. All I ended up with was a set of pauldrons similar to yours but much thicker and more rough looking since I rushed them and had no idea what I was doing in the first place. Mine are made from 16oz veg tan and dyed with Eco-Flow Scarlet, then finished with Eco-Flow Super Sheen.

I love seeing ren fest stuff. Did he say why he wanted a hinged design? Or was it just what came into his head? Question for you...is it a period accurate viking costume or a fur clad and horned viking? I think it was either you or someone in one of your threads that was posting links to a viking reenactment group.

I'm far from an expert on this but the busk looks a tad long. Best way to figure it out is to stick it on her and see how it fits. Good luck on making it from scratch, I ordered a couple patterns from farthingales for an underbust corset and a victorian corset. Hopefully I will be able to make it soon. I have to build myself a workspace first

http://www.elizabethancostume.net/corsets/materials.html Found one. This is a nice site for beginners (like me). Gives you a decent idea of what you're getting into.

Thanks Tina. I was hoping you would reply as I love that corset. I'm gonna have to make a trip to my local fabric store to check for some coutil. I hope they have it, I hate waiting on orders. Sorry for asking in your thread Smooth. For some reason the links I had e-mailed to myself are all not working so I won't bother linking them to you for reference.

Very nice job. You've started for the same reasons I did. I fight in Belegarth and wanted to make myself some armor. Yours looks much better than mine. I should have started with the same thickness you did but I went straight to 16oz sole bends. The stuff is a pain to shape and cut but it will actually stop a knife blade at full swing lol.

Nice colouring. I really like that last one. -
oil and moisture inhibitor for leather

White substance? Could it be a sheen? I know my super-sheen is white. I'm a noob so don't quote me on it. -
lol I had a similar question posed to me when I started sewing clothing, and I made sure to keep her deadline as indefinite. Use google to look for Victorian corsets. They're probably the type you want and there's a lot of good resources out there for them. I would like to add a question in to your list if I may. From what I've read there's 3 layers to a corset. Do you just use leather on the outside layer and use standard fabrics for the other 2 layers, or do you do all 3 layers in leather?

What colour is that? I really like it. -
New seat...called it Sturgis Cross

Very nice. I love the step by step pics, they will help alot in understanding how the whole thing goes together. -
I also just picked up that book and even though it's quite short it has alot of good info and excellent pictures with explanations in it.

I love seeing people's "quick" jobs. It gives me something to aspire to. Very nice. I love saddle bags and would love to try making some once I get some experience. I'm a fan of the clean look, and the overlays are just enough decoration.

All this steampunk stuff makes me think I have next year's halloween costume decided...now I just need to come up with the design. This year will be interesting, I have to make myself a fur-clad barbarian costume, and now a steampunk costume. This is gonna take a long time. By the way thanks for the links everyone, i'll be checking them out as I design.

Nice practice piece. Now just attach it to a stool with a broken seat and you're good to go.

snub nose pistol holster
twofour878 replied to raftert's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
So basically you're saying it might be better for the snap to be attached to the other piece of the safety strap? And possibly shifted towards the inside of the holster closer to the body? Just tryign to make sure I read your post right. -
Since it might be useful to some people thinking about making a corset, this was a fairly educational site with some info on picking the right style, and measuring for your pattern. http://www.costumebeginner.com/corsets/shapes.htm

Good point, I didn't know the difference between the two types (hence the researching right now). I'll have to look up victorian information as well. Thanks.

http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html It's a website that you punch in the measurements and it generates a corset pattern. It seems to have some decent beginner info on useing the pattern and making the corsets as well. Anybody ever tried this?
