  1. Good job - I like the design with the back pocket and the central divider
  2. Saddle Tan Eco-Flo Gel Antique from Tandy, the medium brown comes out like this - I love it
  3. This is one coat of the gel (Eco-Flo Gel Antique Saddle Tan) unevenly applied to plain leather with a rag - a similar kind of look. Keep up the good work Harv
  4. A job well done that man nice looking finish - you can achieve a nice mottled / grain pattern almost effect using antique gel but I really like what you did and the pattern is lovely. Cheers Harvey
  5. The hanger part between the belt and the bag - I used a curved wooden coat hanger to template the curves and the hook in the middle was used to align on a centre mark whilst making the pattern :-) I hope that helps H
  6. Thanks - I used a coat hanger for the curves and the hook in the middle of the hanger allows lining up on centre marks, low tech works most of the time
  7. Thanks SpaceDog - I'm hoping this one leads to more orders from the local steam-punk groups
  8. Thanks BikerMutt - I figured as much, worth asking though
  9. Hi all I've just completed a commission for a steampunk leg bag. I used an oiled leather from Tandy - can this stuff be wet moulded at all please? The bag hangs down 9 inches from the belt so it sits around the upper thigh, for future ones I may try and cut in something like a spiders web pattern into the hanging harness. Any feedback welcome :-) Thanks Harvey
  10. How about a two piece pouch? I made this for a tool bag - back piece folds up to form the base and there's no complicated gusset stitching in what looks like a small item, you could always re-enforce the back for belt attachments. Just a suggestion :-) Harv

Hi - nice piece of work very smart. I've heard the perforated paper and powder pattern transfer method referred to as 'poncing' but I don't know what the official name of this method is. We'd probably call the cloth holding the powder a dobber. Cheers Harvey
  12. Nice looking bag / box - I like the closure. What's a DOPP kit please, I've never heard the term? Cheers Harvey
  13. That's really nice - I like the divider inside, simple but effective Cheers Harvey
  14. Very nice work. I've not done a lined belt before, is there some technical reason that it doesn't look like the lining goes all the way round to the end by the buckle? Not being funny in any way, just curious - forgive me if I don't understand what I'm seeing. Cheers Harvey
  15. That's the business - looks like it'll last a lifetime. Nice work Harv
  16. Hi All Finally about finished, I'm quite pleased with the results so far just going to oil the outside. Is it just me or does it take a few days for your mind to forget the little glitches in a project and declare it mostly OK - you know the stuff that 99.9% of people who look at your work will never notice but you know is there. I don't think I've got perfection wired in for anything I do Cheers Harvey
  17. A really soft pencil to mark a punching line has helped, thanks for all of your suggestions. Harv
  18. Thanks everyone - yep I'm hand stitching and as the outer leather is soft, divider marks don't show up and I'm reluctant to put any sort of pen mark on to follow as it'll show up. I have tried glueing before punching but the glue hasn't held very well, I'll try some tape on the remaining side More photo's when I get a bit further Harv
  19. Hi I've been hanging around in the shadows a while admiring all the fine work, now I think I could do with some advice. I'm working on a shot gun slip for a friend and I've decided to bind the edge around the zipper but I can't seem to get a nice clean edge / straight sew line when I bind and sew - any advice please. Also this will be my first big zipper - any advice on things to avoid etc. The handles took me 3 attempts to get them looking and feeling right - slow progress! All help gratefully received Cheers Harv
