  1. Thank you! Sorry about that. They aren't very good pics. The first two pics were taken outside on the porch with a phone and the others were taken inside with a different phone. The real colors of the pockets and patches are actually black.
  2. Here are a pair of chaps I recently finished for my farrier. I made up the design and so far my farrier really likes them!
  3. Ok. Thank you for the info and the pics. That was helpful. As far as the tools, I have a belt sander and a buffing system (and jeweler's rouge). Is that enough to get by when I need to sharpen it? Thanks for your help! -Ryan
  4. Thanks. I just got it and it's pretty sharp as it is. However, would you just keep it sharp by stropping it with jeweler's rouge?
  5. Hello, everybody! Now I know this isn't much to show off, but I thought I'd show it anyway. I finally got an Al Stohlman head knife and made up a case for it. It's not a fancy showpiece, just a case to protect the blade. I didn't want to spend a lot of time making the edges pretty. Let me know what you think! Thanks for looking! -Ryan
  6. Very cool! What weight leather did you use? What does the other side look like?
  7. Thanks! The leather is an 8/9 oz. European single bend from Tandy (best leather I have ever tooled, dyed, etc.) It's very supple for the thickness. I used an airbrush to apply Eco-Flo briar brown and then sprayed it with Resolene. I also put a little antique in the crevices and marker dyed a few parts black. I just left the previous stamp in the leather to space the letters. I do need a jig eventually. Thank you!
  8. Hey, guys! Here is a recent product from my shop. A friend asked me to make him a journal with a custom design. Let me know what you think! -Ryan
  9. She got home today and was thrilled with it! She was even happier that it came with a clean house.
  10. Cool! How big is that?
  11. Thank you! I see you're from Tucson as well! Where in Tucson are you?
  12. Aw, I thought no one would catch that! Good call. I have already trimmed and burned the thread ends. There are a few other things I might want to fix that you haven't caught yet. Do you think I over did the dec cuts? Thank you!
  13. Thank you! It's the least I can do for her.
  14. I know. That's why I'm not selling it. Thanks!
  15. Thank you! The tooling was a lot of fun! Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it!
  16. Hello, everyone! My mom is on a trip so I decided to make a surprise for her when she gets back. This purse is from 6 oz. veg tan and lined with suede. The strap is 8 oz. I hand tooled all of it from a pattern in a book. It took me an estimated total of 30 hours from start to finish. Let me know what you think! (My mom hasn't seen this yet!)
  17. Looks great to me! The only thing I would have done differently would be to round off the edges with a beveler. I really like the color contrast with the stitching. I wouldn't change that at all. One thing's for sure, if I had made that I wouldn't let my dog wear it and scratch it all up! Good work!
  18. Cut it on the other side and then both sides of the other shoe so it looks deliberate. Show us pics of your finished second attempt (I hope it comes out nice!).
  19. Very nice! I'm into making journals myself. I've made about 15 of them. What weight of leather did you use? Do the loop and strap hold the journal shut pretty well? Again, nice work! Ryan
  20. @blink1688 One way you could eliminate some of that bulkiness is to cut a small groove with your swivel knife where the bulk will be. You could also cut that groove with a stitching groover. A cut with the knife will hide or close-up the stitching a little more. A cut with the groover will counter-sink the stitching but won't close it up as much. Here's a sample of what I mean: (Note that I went over both the cut and groove areas 3 times with my sewing machine to show you how they hide bulk.) I hope this helps! Ryan
  21. Could it be repaired? Would that be worth it? I don't especially want to go shopping for another tree but at the same time, I don't want to build an "expensive decoration" like you said. As I said in a previous post, this saddle is mainly for trails so there won't be a whole lot of stress on it. Thank you for bringing it up because I was wondering the same thing. Ryan
