Searching For Minimalist Wallet Pattern
Rolandranch replied to RetiredTom's topic in Patterns and Templates
Here's one I made from four pieces of leather. Pretty simple. Don't know if that helps or not. -Ryan -

Hair-on Belt
Rolandranch replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Thank you! This is my first hair-on product but I really liked it. I want to start doing a lot more with hair-on. When/if you make a hair-on belt, send me pics! I'd love to see it. I looked around on the forum for a while looking for hair-on belts but I never found one so I took the plunge by making one without asking someone for advice first. Thankfully it wasn't hard and there were no noticeable mistakes. Thank you!- 16 replies

Hair-on Belt
Rolandranch replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Hi Gary, Nope. I didn't use any special techniques for it. I just sewed it like anything else and didn't have any problems with cutting it or gluing it. However, I did learn that if you want the hair to hang over an edge, cut the hide hair down on carpet. I wanted both edges to look the same so I cut it on a board. Other than that, there wasn't anything tricky. Thanks! -Ryan- 16 replies

Howdy! A friend of mine asked me to make a hair-on belt for her in exchange for a hair-on cowhide. This was a pretty good deal for both of us since the hide wasn't getting used in any way except for collecting dust in the shed. This is my first time doing anything with hair-on hide. Let me know what you think and critique is always welcome!

That's so awesome!

YinTix, Now that's what I call being creative! Great work and let me know when you come up with another way around buying expensive tools! I mean, a screwdriver?! Who'da thunk it? I wonder what my dad will say when he discovers a missing screwdriver from his toolbox... -Ryan

Thanks for the pic. Looks great! And that's a lot of stitching. What type of thread do you use and do you use the same thread for the cantel binding?
-
Very nice! Do you have any pics of the tooling on the horn cap?

Ok. Thanks. 4 hours? Did you hand stitch the whole belt?? -
Double sided belt
Rolandranch replied to KingsCountyLeather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very clean looking! Is it two pieces stitched together? What weight/brand is the leather? I can see a lot of time put into those edges. Keep it up! -
Very nice! Did you design it yourself or use a pattern?

Minimalist Wallet
Rolandranch replied to Rolandranch's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Here's another one I just made. Same thing but a different color and slightly wider to make it easier to get cards and cash out of it. Let me know what you think! -Ryan -
You finished it! Looks great, Randy! I couldn't help but notice how close the stitches were on the cantle binding. That must have taken a lot of patience. Fantastic work and congrats! By the way, does it cost to enter the contest and what are the prizes? Thanks, -Ryan

Looking great! The stitching looks superb! What weight/kind of thread did you use? I can't wait to see the complete saddle! Keep us posted. Thanks for sharing, -Ryan

Hi, there! I am not a saddle maker (yet) but I can tell you that Barge Cement works very well for tack and saddles. Many saddle makers use it. You can find it at Tandy, Walmart, eBay, etc. Hope this helps! -Ryan

Wedding Album/ State Fair Entry

Wow! That looks great! How long did that take you from start to finish? Pardon this question, but why does it seem like it opens from left to right? -
First Chinks And A Question
Rolandranch replied to tomh's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
I know this is an old post but I had the exact same results with my first pair of chinks. As Tom found out, I realized I was tightening the bottom straps too much. The top straps can go as tight as I want, the bottom straps must be loose, and the middle straps should be in between the two. After doing that I found that there wasn't too much leather in the back and the "winging-out" went away. -
1/3 Scale Saddle.... What Do You Think
Rolandranch replied to doubleLL's topic in Saddle & Tack Maker Gallery
Just don't do a lot of roping and the horn shouldn't break. Looks awesome! -
Looks great! I like how you did the Cheyenne roll in such a way that the stitching is further back so you don't feel it. Question: Where do you get your leather for saddles? I'm looking into making a saddle but am unsure about where to get good leather at a reasonable price. Thanks! -Ryan

Very nice work! Is there a breast collar coming by any chance?

Very cool! It's hard to tell the size until you see the last two pics. Take a pic of that saddle on a horse and label it "world's largest horse!"
