Tooled Snake Belt
Casey Jordan replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
If ya use a shotgun you will ruin the skin. Long story short My two sons and I were out playing paintball in the desert, heard snake rattle. Told my boys to only shoot him in the head so I could have the skin. But I think they heard - "just keep shooting him till ya run out of paint and the skin is all torn up!" (some peoples kids) -

From what I can see it looks pretty nice. And it looks like you spent a hour or two dyeing! Nice job! -

Tooled Snake Belt
Casey Jordan replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
You know it! I was headed to the shed for the shovel!!!!! But my wife stopped me......from.... crying like a little school girl and put a band-aid on it. (No offense to little school girls) Randahl - The pattern is in Al Stohlmans "Belts Galore" pattern book. All the instructions for this belt are near the back. It is all black and white so I just kinda winged it on the colors. I guess you could say I used the "SWAG" method. (sophicticated wild a** guess) -
Tooled Snake Belt

I wish I had heard it rattle and maybe it wouldn't have done this to me! Well it could have been the edger, but I'm not going to swear to it. Thanks everyone for the coments, it was a change of pace to do something different. -
Now that's a nice pair of straps! Very nice neat top notch job.

I had some white leather and I think I got it from the Hide House. I still have most of a side but it is a little heavier than you want.
-
Very nice job tooling, a lot of detail in stitching, rope, reins, headstall, snake...... If you really wanted you could have covered the sky with cova-color or acrylic paints, but I think it is just fine the way it is now. The main figure stands out real nice.

Wickenburg, who's going?
Casey Jordan replied to Kustom's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
I plan on going at least one day. Rick, I come through there twice a day and your never at work. I guess you start after 5:30a.m. It will be different to see Wickenburg in the daylight. And speaking of the street art - The roadrunner down the street near the light, well it took me a couple of months to figure out it wasn't a chicken. Well it's still dark and I'm sticking with that excuse. -
Justin, I like to tool the swell and cantle back on the tree. I tool the swell after the seat is in place so I can tool around the seat jockeys and have a nice even border around the jockeys. It is harder to tool this way, but the outcome is worth it for me. Hope this helps!

Many saddles have been made for dogs. Probably most of them were made for monkeys. The most famous one I remember is a rodeo clown Wilber Plauger who had a monkey who rode a sheep dog tnd preformed at rodeos. Still today Tommy Lucia and his monkey "Whiplash" perform at rodeos. whiplashrides.com You can google "monkey rides dog" and see some pretty neat videos.

Who wants to win this TROPHY BUCKLE ?
Casey Jordan replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
I just wanted to add some clarification to some question I have received. The item you enter must be made by you. You may have one other person help with the work. It can be for sale or not for sale. It does not matter when you made it (i.e. 2 years ago) and it does not have to be made especially for this contest. It does not matter if it was in someone elses show or contest. We will add a rule next year that you can't bring the same item you already had in this contest. As to the cash prize money payout previously posted: Prizes in each category: First Place: Trophy Buckle, $750.00 cash, Ribbon Second Place: $450.00 cash, Ribbon (working on another prize) Third Place: 300.00 cash, Ribbon "Peoples Choice": Trophy Buckle, Ribbon This prize money is based on having a full category of 20 items. The prize money is $75.00 of each entry, with a 50/30/20 split. So if the category does not fill up we will still use $75.00 of each entry, with a 50/30/20 Split. There is a possibility of added money to the cash prizes. -
Financial Rape and Plunder of the World

Mine too. I'm about fed up with all the ! See, it could be worse, you could have my job. Having a job is not what it is all cracked up to be. -
I just use scotch or duck packing tape. This works good for me. I tryed to use the cheaper office max tape, but I will not do that again. It ripped and was hard to get off in little peices.

I have 4 or 5 of the original ones from the Tandy kits and they are all wood. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the one you have is a mold of one of the wood ones. I don't think the sold them in a resin like yours. Casey

I think I can help with the background a little. Shirley Brown Saddlery, San Antonio, Tx. 1945 - 1973 when sold to Leonard Galvin. He used the Brown name until 1979 then changed the name to Leonard Galvin Saddlery. He is still in business today. Hope this helps. Casey

Who are you rooting for in the SUPERBOWL?
Casey Jordan replied to Johanna's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Good question Denise. Here's a true story that relates and is worth the read. KURTIS THE STOCK BOY AND BRENDA THE CHECKOUT GIRL In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice came over the loud speaker asking for a carry out at register 4. Kurtis was almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the call. As he approached the check-out stand a distant smile caught his eye, the new check-out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was only 22) and he fell in love. Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch clock to find out her name. She came into the break room, smiled softly at him, took her card and punched out, then left. He looked at her card, BRENDA. He walked out only to see her start walking up the road. Next day, he waited outside as she left the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again, outside of work. She simply said it wasn't possible. He pressed and she explained she had two children and she couldn't afford a baby-sitter, so he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. Reluctantly she accepted his offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night he arrived at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go with him. The baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, "Well, let's take the kids with us." She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not taking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda, brought him inside to meet her children. She had an older daughter who was just as cute as a bug, Kurtis thought, then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born a paraplegic with Down Syndrome. Kurtis asked Brenda, "I still don't understand why the kids can't come with us?" Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman with two kids, especially if one had disabilities - just like her first husband and father of her children had done. Kurtis was not ordinary - - - he had a different mindset. That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids, went to dinner and the movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair, took him and brought him back. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with. A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children. Since then they have added two more kids. So what happened to Kurtis the stock boy and Brenda the check-out girl? Well, Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Warner now live in Arizona , where he is currently employed as the quarterback of the National Football League Arizona Cardinals and has his Cardinals in the hunt for a possible appearance in the Super Bowl. Is this a surprise ending or could you have guessed that he was not an ordinary person. It should be noted that he also quarterbacked the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. He has also been the NLF's Most Valuable Player twice and the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player. Go Arizona Cardianals! Casey
