  1. Thanks LAROC & workingman! I'm starting to get the hang of it.
  2. Tim, That is definatly a prize winning piece! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Thanks everyone! On the next one I hope I can take some more time and not be so rushed. Wishful thinking!
  4. Thanks Pete! It was made for a guy who travels a lot to western collectable and gun shows. He will have to check his gun when he flys but will be able to carry it everywhere else. Got in a big rush to finish and did not pay enough attention to what the inside looked like. Pretty sloppy job inside. Lesson learned...............again! Now if I could just remember what I learned!
  5. Thought I would post some pictures of a flight bag I just delivered to Waco, Texas. It is 10 x 10 x 19 with a inside pocket with business card holder on one side and a holster on the other side. Sorry for the bad photography! It's hard to see the real colors in these pictures.
  6. I would call that one functional art! Very nice piece of work Brent!
  7. I have been asked a couple questions about this contest. I thought I would post them here in case someone else wanted to know. What can I enter in the Engraving category? Anything EXCEPT bits and spurs since we already have categories for those. This category is to show your engraving ability so it is up to you. How does the judging work? We are going to judge the same way as last year because it worked so well and all the contestants were happy with the way it was done. Basically, you will judge each category you enter. So potentially if the category fills up there will be 25 judges. How this works is you must pick the first 4 places and these are given points. 1st - 4 points 2nd -3 points 3rd - 2 points 4th - 1 point Each contestant fills out his (or her) judges card and then all the cards are tallied up to determine the winner. Each category is done this way for the "Champion" in each. The "Peoples Chioce" is voted on by everyone who attends the show, all the dealers and all the contestants of all categories. This voting is seperate from the makers judging. They will get one vote per category for Peoples Choice. It does not matter when you made the item or if it has been in some other contest or show. You will just not be permitted to bring the same item again in years to come. It can be for sale, but does not have to be. We are working on an idea so everyone will know it is for sell and how much if you wish to sell it. You may place business cards next to your entry. One of the main purposes of this contest is to promote the contemporary makers. If you have any other questions, Please ask! You can post questions here and I check it at least twice a day.

  13. Thanks rickeyfro! I sure do appreciate your help!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Now I'm getting somewhere! I will be useing 3/4" foam. Do you do this for the top and bottom or just the bottom? If bottom only, how do you get the top? I apperciate your help!
  15. The one Kevin King does in that post is a different style construction than what I'm wanting to do. I have read through a lot of them. The one by David at the top is great but, it starts with the tooled parts. I need to know how he got the pattern to cut those parts. I have learned a lot from what I have read on this subject. I just don't want to spend a lot of time and waste a lot of leather trying to figure it out on my own. Thanks for your help!
  16. What part of the country did you buy the saddle? With no makers stamp and obvisouly made by someone who knew what they were doing makes me wonder if it was made by someone who was working for someone else at the time.
  17. I have spend days trying to find a clear explaination of how to cut the leather for a bike seat. I might have missed it somewhere. This will be my first tooled and laced seat. I have seen some who have the leather tooled before the foam is applyed, and some who cut their pattern after the foam is on the pan. But I have not seen a post that explains how to draw this pattern. I think I would prefer to cut and tool before the foam is on the pan. Do you just add x" to the pan outline? Is it the same for the top? All help would be appreciated!
  18. dscott, My first thought is that it is probably not made of tooling leather. It's probably made of a garment leather of some sort. I would pass on it. Remember it is your reputation on the line!
  19. Someone call me? jbird, I just went to www.ralide.com they used to make the molded plastic trees in miniature size. I could not find them on their website. They also made stirrups in miniature, could not find them either. You can get wood rawhide bound miniature trees from several makers, but they are about the same price as the big ones. I used to get some from Mexico but the go-between guy died and I don't know where he was getting them from. If I run across one I will let you know. I dont use them anymore because they only come in one style that can be spotted from a mile away. Hope this helps. And keep the noise down Bob, I'm trying to get some work done over here!
  20. I'm not a braider so I don't know who to talk to for a sponsorship in the braiding category for our makers contest. Would like to get someone who can use some good advertising at a cheap rate. I thought someone here might know of someone or company who would be interested in sponsoring one of these categories. 2010 Champion Braider 2010 People's Choice Braider This is for the "Art of the Cowboy Makers" bring your best contest. They would be listed with name, logo and website address on our website (www.artofthecowboymakers.com ) and on all posters, flyers and any other advertising we do until May 2010. The sponsorship is $300.00 for 10 months worth of advertising. There will be Trophy buckles for First Place & People's Choice. Cash money will be paid first, second and third place. I contacted Jim Downey already, he had to pass for now. Would like to fill these soon so we can have all of the sponsors listed as soon as possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If interested in entering this contest here's what I posted earlier. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...mp;#entry112304 Thanks for your help!
  21. Welcome Tyrel! Great looking saddle, I wouldn't expect less from someone who lives in Arizona. I deliver copper concentrate to Miami four days a week, just got home from there. Keep the pictures coming.
  22. Good stuff! He'll be a happy biker. Might get more leather ordered now - you know his buddys will want one or two.
