White Dye?
Casey Jordan replied to joker's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Joker, I have a extra side of white leather I bought from the Hide House a few years ago. I used the other side just like it for motorcycle seat, bags, tank bib and all the fringe for her bike. Like you said not much call for white leather. If your interested I will cut and sell you just what you need. You can pm or call me. 602-482-9758. -
As a matter of fact, Yes! I had two orders for miniature batwing spotted pinto woolies, white with orange spots. And like most orders finished "just in time", I didn't get pictures of them. Ryan, Let us all know how you decide to do your dieing and how it turns out.

I have used Rit dye on Isalndic Sheep. I dyed white to orange and it worked very well. The only problem was that it made the skin hard and stiff. Hope this helps!

Very Impressive, a lot of hours involved. It's not my style or like anything I do but, I must say I'm ver impressed! Great Job! :clapping:

Where did you get that signature (ADD-chicken) I'm still laughing. Moe It was a joke my sister sent me, cracks me up too. Like I tell my wife and kids - Stay focused and pay attention to....WHOA!...was that a squirrel?

You did a great job with layout and tooling this very interesting pattern. It's not as easy as it looks to keep it straight. Nice job.
-
Nice work! I like the color combination too.

Welcome to the site! Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Skald, The Barge (or any brand) rubber cement will work for your tooling. The rubber cement can be found at some craft stores and hardware stores, might save you some shipping charges. I just use a good clear packing tape. Just tape the back of the leather good and trim off the excess and remove when done and dry. Rubber cement is not near as permanant as the Barge All purpose cement. The Barge All purpose cement is what you want to use for a permanant bond. I don't have pictures, but I hope this helps.

Bevan, Your family comes first. I wish your daughter and all your family the best. As far as the trading goes, there will be a better time down the road. No rush and don't worry about it.

Yet Another Newbie Cue Case Maker
Casey Jordan replied to Cyrex's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Now that is cool! Very nice tooling and coloring. Can't wait to see it done. -
I look forward to seeing your work. As you know little tips and tricks from more experianced braiders will help improve your work quicker. Thanks for the complements on my maul engraving. After I finished the orders I got off of that one I made one I can take to my shows in January. It's very tempting though, just sitting there all nice and new and unused. I know what you mean about these "day jobs" getting in the way of good leatherwork time. I'm just trying to figure out how many times I can get suspended (for 3 days) without getting fired! Joe, I also like your braiding work. I really like the 14 strand belt you made. Well, I better get back to work so I can get some of these orders out of here.

Without a doubt this thread needed a bump! This trade deal sounds pretty neat. I would sure be interested in owning some of your work Bevan. You do some very nice braiding. I don't braid, but I'm trying to get the hang of tooling. If I could find the time to make something I would be interested. And Aggie, I tried to find pictures of your work and come up empty. WHAT NO PICTURES!!! I'm sure you broke a LW rule on that one.

That's a very nice belt! Nice pattern too.

Now that is a cool seat! Nice job on the coloring too.

Art Of The Cowboy Makers
Casey Jordan replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
The youth (18 and under) rules and application are up on our website now! www.artofthecowboymakers.com -
Thank you for posting this Johanna. Also Thank you Paul for taking the extra time for the presentation. I really enjoyed seeing what it takes to do this process. Very interesting to me. I have never made boots or even repaired any, but it is very intriguing to me.

Some of you may have already received this in an email. This is just some updates for the Art of the Cowboy Makers contest. We have some exciting news for all makers. The dates for the 2011 contest is June 17-19 which is a Friday - Sunday and will not conflict with the Sheridan Leather show this year. We have some new sponsors this year that we are very proud to have as sponsors. Leatherworker.net - Corporate Sponsor! Barry King Tools - Champion Leather Carver Leather Machine Co, Inc. - People's Choice Leather Carver Thank you to Johanna and staff, Barry King and Steve Tayrien! I"m very happy to have these quality people as sponsors. All entries will be invited to have their entry on special exhibit at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame from June 20th - September 9th 2011. This was a very successful exhibit last year. We are doing more advertising and we are getting a lot of interest from new makers and will be sending this email to new makers too. So remember we have a limit of 25 per category on a first come first serve basis. I'm already receiving entries from past entrants and new makers. The categories are the same as last year plus we added a Leather Carving category. So this year we will have Bits, Boots, Braiding, Engraving, Leather Carving, Saddles and Spurs. In addition to the above we are adding an open youth category. This will be for makers 18 years and younger. These young people are our future makers and need the exposure and encouragement too. They will be allowed to make any item from the above seven categories. We are still working out the details on this category and there will be a separate application on the website soon. All the rules, application and pictures of last years contest are on our website: www.artofthecowboymakers.com You may notice we have added a language translator that will translate to 10 different languages. We are getting interest from various countries. Also Sammi Snow from the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame would like to know if anyone is interested in doing demonstrations for the visitors at the Hall of Fame. She would like to have demonstrations at least once a month starting in January. They will do advertising for all these demonstrations and would be a good way for more exposure for you and your work.If your interested please contact her directly. Sammi Snow ssnow@prorodeo.com If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email or call me at:602-482-9758

The easiest way to tell how thick a certain weight is to cheat a little. In the front of lets say Tandy leather catalog is a weight / thickness chart. It shows a side view of how thick a 2-3oz. or a 8-9oz. leather is. Hope this helps.
