  1. Not to affend any tool maker because they are all good. Any custom tool maker is an upgrade. A lot of it will come down to price, and they do vary. I personally have been upgrading with Barry King tools with no complaints. Hope this helps some.
  2. Very Sweet! Happy to see your back at it again. Very nice layout of the pattern, I missed the initials the first time but I like the way it was done.
  3. How long is it and how does it clasp?
  4. I have used medical tape and duct tape, either works. The medical tape is easier since it is narrower.
  5. Just a couple updates : Bits moved to engraving category : New hat category : Saddle stands for rent Unfortunately, it seems there is not much interest in the Bit category. We have had a hard time getting entries in this category since the beginning. As of now we have 0 entries in this category. We will no longer have a Bit category, so if you would like to make a Bit you can enter it in the Engraving category. We have added a new category: HATS! After talking to several hat makers in Las Vegas last week at Cowboy Christmas, all of the ones I talked to were very interested in the contest. I sent out an email to about 20 other hat makers when I got home and also received a very positive response. So here's a chance for Hat Makers to get the exposure at Loveland and at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. This will be added to the application soon or you can just write it in. We will also have saddle stands for rent for $20.00 and will be for the duration of the contest and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame exhibit. Since there might be saddles coming from other countries and some might have to be mailed this is one way to have a stand without shipping it. There will be a place for this on the application soon and will need to be paid with the deposit so we know how many we will need. So the 2011 categories are: Boots Braiding Engraving Hats Leather Carving Saddles Spurs Youth (18 and under, any category) Still looking for Braiding Champion, Braiding "People's Choice" and youth sponsors if anyone is interested. If you have any questions PLEASE ask! Email or call 602-482-9758 www.artofthecowboymakers.com
  6. Very nice!!!! I really love the necklace, what would something like that go for without the silver?
  7. It's hard to tell without seeing the pattern in actual size, but when you bevel it will the heel of the beveler cover it? If so I would use a checkered beveler. Just a thought.
  8. Here's some poppers I have made for quirts. May be too long for what you want, but you could shorten them up to fit your needs. Should give you some ideas. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=10049&st=0&p=81642&hl=poppers&fromsearch=1entry81642 Hope this helps!
  9. Thanks Jeeperaz. I'm glad you took the time to look and comment. I appreciate your comments! Beautiful job(s), Casey! No wonder they felt like they took forever- there's a ton of work there. And they look like there were worth every minute! Crystal Thanks Crystal. Your right there is a lot of work on them. I even took a weeks vacation to work on them. It was one of those deals where there was always something comming up and making it take longer. For instance: The last thing to do was to put the conchos on the handles at 7:30 p.m. only to have the screws too short. A quick trip to Ace hardware for longer screws where I bought a box of two different sizes so I wouldn't have to go back. Get back home and one set of conchos was ordered form a different place with different size screws....back to Ace which is now closed, so off to Home Depot. Long story short it took over two hours to put on 12 conchos. Just my luck!
  10. Thanks for the complements! Thank goodness there are people that still have a little money. They are few and far between, but worth the effort to find 'em.
  11. Good to hear from you Martin and thanks for the comments! The bags are 19" long and 10" wide and 10" tall. They are pretty good size and are just the right size to fit in the overhead compartment on the airplane. The A&S Auction logo and and the artwork on the other side was supplied by the customer. The "Have Gun Will Travel" bag's artwork was also supplied by the customer. I just had to add all the floral layout around what they wanted. The customer for the third bag just wanted all floral. If you have any questions on the "ideas" just ask! Infact they gave me a few ideas I want to try out too. Kings X Yes, these are the bags I told you about. I finally got them mailed out and on their way to the new owners.
  12. Thanks for the comments Ken & Rik ! Tim - Thanks for the complements ! The zipper, bottom, holsters and the handle tugs are machine sewn. The outside perimeter and the end pieces are all hand sewn. I think I will try to figure out a different bag design so it can be all sewn with my sewing machine. It took awhile to do all the hand sewing - times three. I will try to get some better pictures in natural light.
  13. It has been a while since I have posted anything, been busy on these flight bags. It has been one of those projects that has seemed to take forever. Two of them are for a husband and wife and the third is for a friend of theirs. It was easier making all three together since they are basically the same. Two of them have a "little friend" on the inside and all of them have a pocket on one side. Did I mention that it seemed to take forever?
  14. HERE'S A COUPLE TO TRY. HOPE THIS HELPS. http://www.timcocorporation.com/index.php http://www.triggleather.net/index2.php
  15. I know there are a lot of good braiders on here. I would like to see it when it's done. I seen a knife that had hitched horse hair on the handle, it was real sweet. I'm like you though, it's beyond my skills.
  16. Thanks a lot Ed, now I have to go to Big Lots! I have been using my silver engraving magnifier with light to hand sew some flight bags. I don't need the magnifier for this, but I sure need the light . Thanks for the tip.
