Beginner sewing machine for wallets, watch straps, light stufd
JJN replied to KennethM's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Trevor, be sure you are searching the entire site when you search, not just a limited topic. Check the pull down menu to the left of the search box. Also, you can use exact phrases in "quotes" to get more concise results. -
Sewing machines started out and continue to use hard to find threads. If you go to the hardware store small machine screws start at #2 and go up to #6, #8 and #10. after that they use fractional sizes like 1/4", 5/16" and so on. Sewing machines use fractional sizes for the small screws like 9/64" and 11/64" with all different threads per inch. You can find a description of many of the thread sizes and the appropriate tap number in the superior master catalog.

I have the swing-forward edge guide, part #1 in the photo. The Fixing Binder Fitting Plate, part #4, can be switched out on the edge guide and have a generic binder attached to it. Juki wants $68 for the plate #4. I think I will make one for about $1. It will not be a synchronized binder, but should work just fine.

I just contacted MJ Foley about the Juki binder for the 1341 and this is their reply. " The items on the Juki brochure are discontinued and no longer manufactured. WE have some generic items available from our catalog, but most often we create custom binders for peoples applications. " I cannot understand why Juki would discontinue the only binding accessory they make for a currently manufactured machine.

Filson Factory Auction Dozens of 211W151 Starting at $20
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@Firestar1485 Thanks for the update about the auction. I am interested in some of the 'non-machine' smaller items but not sure if I can get up there in time for the pick-up. Or justify the 9 hour drive each way. -
Thanks @Gregg From Keystone Sewing, that is exactly the information I was looking for. I am setting up a 206RB-1 I recently bought and wanted to be sure I get the lubrication right. By the way, the Juki DNU-1541S I bought from you is a beautiful machine and has been a joy to use. I highly recommend that people consider you for machine purchases.

I have searched this forum and googled and cannot find a link to an instruction manual specifically for the Consew 206RB-1. I have an original for the 206RB and downloaded the manuals from Consew for the 206RB-5 and the parts manuals. The 206RB-1 has an improved lubrication system and the 206RB manual does not cover it. I can buy a PDF version from ebay if all else fails, but I thought someone on this forum ought to have a pdf copy handy. I can scan the 206RB instruction manual from my original if anyone needs it.

Filson Factory Auction Dozens of 211W151 Starting at $20
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@Mark842 I agree. I really have all the machines I need.... but.... if there an old singer walking foot going for under $100, which one of us could walk away from it. I might consider getting a double needle machine. There are some huge fabric rolls there that could be split up between a couple of us. Maybe someone could act as an agent to organize shipping or just pick up something for someone else if they are closer. It will be interesting to watch. Good luck on your bidding. -
Filson Factory Auction Dozens of 211W151 Starting at $20
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I know I created my own competition by posting this on here, but there are plenty of items for everyone and I feel it is good to share this with the LW community. It would be cool to meet some of the west coast members picking up their stuff up there. -
Filson Factory Auction Dozens of 211W151 Starting at $20

I bought a Filson jacket 14 years ago. I've worn it a lot and it gets better the more I use it. I suppose it will outlast me. It might of been made at this facility. -
Filson Factory Auction Dozens of 211W151 Starting at $20
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Yes, inspection on the 10th, online bidding closes on the 11th and pick-up on the 12th and 13th. I am a 9 hour drive away. -
I stumbled upon this auction of the Filson production facility in Post Falls, Idaho. Looks like dozens and dozens of Singer, Consew, Juki, Pegasus machines plus rolls of fabric, hook & loop, layout and cutting tables and spare machine parts. Lots are starting at $5 - $20. Ten days until auction closes. I wish I had more money and space right now. https://cyberauctions.com/ViewCurrentAuction.php?cid=0&aid=803&srid=49

@bikermutt07 Congratulations on your Consew! I hope to see what you make over the next few months. @Horsewhishper When I have the need to sew thicker than 3/8" leather, I will be looking at a cb4500. I have read very good reviews about that machine on LW.

I found that some bobbins have a slightly larger diameter center hole than others. What I now do when winding bobbins on any machine is feed the thread tail back through the center hole before I slide it on the winding arbor. It tightens the bobbin to the arbor and holds the tail so I don't have to.

I am not associated with this seller. Just thought someone here might find this to be something to consider. It is a Nakajima 321L Needle Feed Cylinder bed with table and motor for $350. Similar to a Juki LS-321. Offering a new-in-the-box servo motor for $50 more. https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/for/d/nakajima-321l-industrial/6682386687.html

1969? Industrial Sewing Machine Sales Brochure
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Did you notice the reverse lever is mounted backwards on the 226? Also, none of the machines are shown with bobbin winders. -
This sales brochure was included with a Consew 206RB I bought a few months ago. The 1969 date is written in pencil on the front cover. I am not sure if that is the actual date it was printed. It has prices and capabilities that I thought some of you might find interesting. There are 6 pages total. I will provide them in two posts. Higher resolution images are available if anyone needs them.

pfaff 238 Is the Pfaff 238 appropriate for heavier duty leather work?
JJN replied to Londonfog's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
The Pfaff 138 is a good buy at $200. There are two versions I know of, the standard 4mm (maybe 4.5mm) zig-zag and a 6mm zig-zag. I currently own both of them. The 6mm is harder to find and I would't pass one up at $200. It may not be the best choice as a leather machine but you will always have a need to sew fabrics and the zig-zag option will add to its usefulness. -
Can you provide a photo?

I got the machines home and set up. The Juki dln-9010a was not the machine I was originally after but was offered at a price I couldn't refuse. This thing is awesome. It should really speed up the repetitive production work. You will see in the video my speed is still in learning stage but the machine is like magic.

Other Thread Size Specifications Listed by Juki
JJN replied to JJN's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@brmax, I too looked at those charts earlier. I agree they are a bit confusing. I think it comes down to this, each machine has a range of needle sizes it is designed for. You need to use a thread with a diameter suitable for the needle eyelet you are using. I just picked up a Juki DLN-9010A-SH and it doesn't give any thread sizes in it's specifications, only the needle range of 20 to 23 although I am currently using an 18 needle with 69 thread just fine. I suppose it can handle 69 to 138 thread based on the needle sizes.
