    Horse Hide

I need a couple Horse Hides. Where is the best place to purchase a small quanity ? Thanks,
  5. I tried this today and it seems to work great ( after several different methods in the cabinet). Virgin edge, apply edge ink, let dry about 50%. Then moisten with sponge & burnish. If you have to go back and re-ink there is nothing to hold back the ink to absorb into the leather. You may have to apply a second coat of edge ink then rub down with a t-shirt & seal. Only one try but so far it seems to work. The $$ I could have saved.....
  6. CitizenKate; That's just what I needed. I will go to work on Bob's method in the morning. Again, Thanks,,,,,,
  7. Problem with burnishing the edges of dual bull hide belt. Let me lay it out for you: I edge the edges of the belt. (nice rounded edges) Then apply edge ink. (let dry for 15-20 minutes) Then apply bees wax - just running it back & forth over the edge. (the cake type). Then put the belt on the Weaver system covered with canvas. Run it through the system very slowly to melt the wax & lay the fibers down. Comes out great. But alittle discolored with the heat, ect. (needs to be shinny) So I apply a new cover of edge ink, let dry & buff with a T-shirt. (Looks great) Then apply my sealer (Atom Wax) & let dry. Put it under the light & still looks great with these old eyes. Take it out in the sun light & damn I can't ship this out unless I want to narrow my market to the old guys (like me) who can't see. To the point: As I apply the sealer it is (I think) pulling off the ink in spots (not everywhere but just in small areas). Could it be the wax not allowing the ink to adhere to the leather ? Or something else. Now that the sealer is applied my only option is to re-sand, re-edge & try to figure out the problem & re-do the edges. Any suggestions other than get into another business?
  8. I got 2 of the pads from them as well. Works great.
  9. The press pads are somewhere around $50 each. I think 12"x12". ( I have two). If there is any interest I can supply the supplier. (email me). I have a 12 ton press from HF (not that you need one that large) & it works great. You will have to modify it some. No big deal. Good luck.
  10. I think a great website.... Easy to Nav through & easy to understand. Good job.. good luck to you in the future.
  11. I think this would be more of a legal issue & understand you don't want to spent the $$ finding out. When I went into a real business (small at best) I just pulled one out of the sky. I'm Al & my wife is Gail, thus we named our business A&G Custom Gun Leather and made up what I think was a nice looking logo & got a maker mark. I guess it could stand for Atlanta, Ga where we live - but does it really matter. The quality, price and turn around makes your business - not your name. JMO.
  12. Easy, It looks like you've got a winner there. I'm sure your customer will be pleased.
  13. Ross, JFYI - tried the Barge thinner & NO go. I'll keep looking but thanks anyway.
  14. Ross, the leather is totally virgin. No sealers / top coat. I' ll give the Barge thinner a try. Thanks,
  15. Art, I can not use 500 but I would be interested in getting afew even if they were 3" long or even 5" long. Can you provide me with a supplier or maybe do you know of some supplier who has a flat sheet with adhesive so you could wrap it around the wheel?
  16. What is the best way to get Barge Cement off of an "unsealed" belt liner (natural, not dyed)? Most of it will come off after it dries with just the rubbing of your hand or an eraser but it always leaves a stain which I cannot get off. With the sealer & top coat it is very apparent.
  17. For those of you that use this system from Weaver (it's called: Power Edge Slicker )- has anyone found a better supplier, in terms of price, for the sanding sleeves. Vernon charges $7.50 each + shipping & I can find them all day long for $4 but not the right size of 2 1/2" X 4 1/2". I like to support the mfg's but not at almost double the price.
  18. Rayban, That one I don't have. But if I did you could certainly borrow it. Sorry...
  19. Maybe we need to look at this another way. Rather than one person making the investmet & renting the "blue guns" why not start a club where you just loan the "blue gun" for one week. Late charge if it's not back on time, ect. Honor system..We did this on another forum with holsters & it was alittle slow but the idea could grow. I know I've offered a couple of "blue guns" as loaners (you pay the postage) & to date - not screwed yet. Just an idea.
  20. Nice holster, nice color & outstanding edges.
  21. As I've said before "burnishing" is probably the weakest part of my belt operation. I dye the edges (let dry) & then apply "trag" (let dry) & then put in on the Weaver burnishing system. I then add more "trag" let dry or apply "bees wax" & place it in a long wooden tray, I made & put the elbow grease to it using a piece of canvas. Still not coming out great. Should I be rubbing in only one direction or back and forth. I have been going back & forth & now wonder if I'm undoing the process as I come the other way. Or could the problem be in my sanding. I sand with 3 different grits (it's then flat on the edges) & then put it thru the Weaver Easy Edger using a #2 blade. Comes out nice & round. This burnishing process takes up more time in the shop than any other phase of the operation. Can anyone add any light to my dilemma.
  22. Larry, Congrtats on your new machine. I purchased the Artisan 3000 a few months ago & thus far pleased. You will be happy you ordered the table extension - I am.

    Makers Mark

Tried it and it works great. I wet the buckle flap, anyway, to fold over to install the buckle & at that point I can stamp the "makers mark" on as well. First time using one - I should have thought about it alittle more before crying wolf. As always, thanks guys.
