Denster I had a sheet of .25" SS in the garage that measured 35"X42" So I just drilled,Taped and installed a fitting to hook up that Vaquam pump that I also was not using.I will put some 42" steel legs under it to make a Vaq. table.A good start to trying this method of Casing for Holsters.Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!

I to am doing the sewing by hand..researching machines...an trying to figure out the best trail to take.Art is agreat source of info on the types and styles of current offerings.Welcome again!That carving on your rig looks great to me!
  4. Looks good! here is a tip though, when sewing on the retainer strap do not sew across ( at a deg.angle)to the strap ,as it weakens that strap,just use your "U" pattern !
  5. Great work and a tip..Prior to staining ,wipe the project down with Denatured Alcohol ,that way your stain will "set" a lot easier.It works for me!It also saves on materials(stain).

I would have her look at a Ruger sp101 in .357 mag. not for the mag. but she can train with a wide variety of Ammo....38 wadcutter on up to .38 +P and if she fells comfortable into many different self defense Magnums.You can still buy any of those calibers just about anywhere even Walmart!If I could only have one I think I would keep my SS Sp101!

  15. Not bad for a first run,for an excellant ref look at Richard Rattenbury's book "Packing Iron" Zion Pub.That tooling is simular to the style the old smith's did using sharp nails to remove the leather surface in a simple design.Again check out that book!

  17. Acetone will remove the barges, use it sparringly and clean the leather w/h20 and detergent ,allow to dry completely before finishing!
  18. Tomline I do them like Trooper ,I make the form of the Item and attach it to 1/2" plywood,I aiso make the Top piece to clamp the cased leather over the form! I put about three coats of Poly on both pieces ,sanding between coats that way they release easily and are not affected by the wet Leather.You may use them over and over!Hopr this helps....Thats why you end up with a basement full of wood working tools!LOL
  19. Welcome to the site there are great people here and some really good artists .I however do not claim to be one of them ,LOL!! I do leather gear for professional carriers,SASS members and folks that like handmade equipment.They are helpful to everyone here.
  20. I made mine from Red Oak and they work just fine...Exotic wood is prettier..I don't know if it will last any longer! Supper price too!

I have an oscilating table sander that you can change drum diam..but by using a gum cleaner it lasts forever..also excellant control.I have not figured a better way to do it!Now that I mfgd those redwood grooved wheels for the buffer everything go's very fast.Gum trag and four min and I am done!
