Bracer with a pattern from Gotland
Raven replied to Freki's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
You're not the only one there Tasha! I love this bracer - wish I had enough leather to try tooling something similar. Man, I got to get me some vegtan!Freki, your work is brilliant! -
belt bag in Viking-style
Raven replied to Freki's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Now that is a bag any heathen would be proud to carry. I know I would! -
Ah right, sounds easy enough

Well here you go - I finally managed to get my head around a turkshead. They ain't for the faint of heart are they? This one is a 7x5, as seen on this page - http://www.taylortel.net/~stwood/lesson2.html It was a struggle, about 3 times I reached the end to find one 'over' should've been an 'under', but I got there in the end Talking of ends, what do you do to get rid of the ends on a turkshead, it didn't say that on the lesson pages lol. It's made with some lace I cut from an old scrap of suede I had in th back room, didn't bother trying to bevel it though as it was just to try it. Oh, one last thing - is there any easy way of tightening these things up, it took me ages and I am sure it could have been done so much better!

Nice! I hope to be able to do braids that good soon

Thanks for that I actually managed to tie my first turkshead after reading that (a 5x3, the simplest I could lol). Also lead me to the Knot Heads Worldwide forum http://www.khww.net which has some great tutorials and videos

A few belt/possibles pouches
Raven replied to Raven's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I was thinking it was more like a ladies thong lol. Putting the fanny back into fanny pack or for the English, the bum back into bum bag -
Messenger Bag Part Deux

Well, a clamp and 2 pieces of scrap wood then -
Well, no tooling leather and none likely for some time so I decided to do something with al the chrometan I had here. So far I've done these three pouches, each around 6 or 7" deep. This first one is something I did on the spur of the moment today. Didn't quite realise what it would look like until it was done! I like it though This one and the next two are built to the same basic pattern, I was trying out different construction methods (lacing and stitching), different fastenings and in the case of the pink/purple one, a reversible bag All coments welcome! Plus, any ideas as to other things I can do with chrometan?

Hi there I'm looking to start braiding dog collars but I really need to learn how to do some basic braiding tasks before I do those. I've done a few practise pieces and always get to the end thinking, "Now what do I do with all these loose ends?" Can you help me tidy them up? I really need to learn how to properly start off and perhaps more importantly how to finish off a braid. I'm looking at 6-strand braids right now, any suggestions? Can you point me to some online tutorials?

Excellent Terry they'll do the job!

Hi all I've been looking at a few bags on here with these swingbar clasps and have been trying to find them in the UK without much success, does anyone know of a UK supplier? I'd prefer one this side of the pond as shipping costs would probably be more than the clasps! Many thanks

That is a seriously nice bag! I'd say you nailed your design brief. I'd carry it with pride if it were mine -
Thank you! I had this site in my bookmarks a few years ago but lost it when the hard drive fritzed out on me and could never remember what it was called

I am always being asked 'How much for that...' when I show people one of the things I make (not just leather, I like making things ). I think I have consistentlyunderpriced myself. I don't have the highest self-esteem and believing that someone will pay large amounts of money for something I've crafted is difficult. Here's the latest example... Made this pouch for a woman I know through a local group. It's from a suede hide I picked up some time ago that's pink on the flesh side and a sort've sparkly purple on the front. It was in the seconds pile at a local leather merchants and I nabbed the last 3 hides at £5 each, good weight to it too So I made this reversable bag, pink and purple. Very simple construction, purple suede thonging throughout. Showed her the pics and she loves it.But what would you pay for it? . I have said £25 for it and even she said I should charge more! What's a guy to do?

Yeah, that ad is showing on TV all over here. Must've been a surprise to all the travellers!

Has anyone here ever made UGG-style boots
Raven replied to esantoro's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
Can't help you but I'll be watching this thread with interest, it's something I've wondered about too. I've only actually made one pair of moccs before though so it'll be a challenge -
Very nice work on there

Ok, I started braidinga 6 strand round braid following some instructions on here. Went really well right up until I realised I had absolutely no idea what to do once I had the length I wanted- how do Ifinish braiding? My partner has seen my little test piece and wants a slip collar made in that pattern with a ring at each end, what's the best way to attatch the rings? On the tester I just put the ring in the middle of the 3 lengths to give me 6 laces, is this right? Is there a better way? Help? :D

This came up in a search and I thought I'd give it a go. Once you get the knack this is really easy! I just did a little demo piece - I was fine until I realised I have absolutely no idea how to finish this off What do you do when you want to finish off a braid?

I think you need a medal just for turning those! They are amazing, beat my attempts at turnshoes hands down. Fantastic work.
