  1. Dick Anderson of Thornapple River Boots might have pair. http://thornappleriverboots.com/ Or Panhandle Leather is another source. http://panhandleleather.com/ But to be honest, there is way more to boot last sizing than meets the eye. Especially if you're going to do all the work to make a pair by hand. A fit consultation with a boot maker would be recommended. Good Luck,
  2. I was really intrigued by this. And I really enjoyed the new Sherlock Holmes. DO we have any makers playing with this theme?

  7. Of course. I should have mentioned what the mitt was made of. Sorry. It's cordura. But canvas or denim work real well, especially after if begins to get "loaded". And yes a slicker would work well. I use a cocobolo saddlers slicker sometimes. When I want a really smooth edge on my soles and heel bases, I'll work it over with wet dry sand paper. The key ingrediant is elbow grease. I think it's all matter of how much time do you want to spend "makeing love to the edges". Just remember to relax the mucsels you aren't using.
  8. I've used gum trag for years. I have a mitt I made to slick the sides and back. I think it's best to work the fibers down from the tongue end to the buckle end. It'll facilitate passing the belt through the loops. It's probably best to stay away from blanks like this when you can. All the work you've done on it could be wasted when the belt goes raggy in a few years. Just my two cents.

Great Johanna, I'm looking forward to see examples of how this will look. I might want to play.
  10. I second Bruce's recommendation.
  11. Johanna, I noticed a caption under my Avatar in a recent post. It said "Master Bootmaker". Aw Shucks, Jo. src="http://leatherworker.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/trumpet.gif"> While that's flattering and all, to be honest, that's a touchy subject amoung bootmakers. If one else calls someone else that, that's good. It one calls oneself that, that's bad. src="http://leatherworker.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/eusa_naughty.gif"> It's a big deal in some circles of the trade. I think you get the idea. Being under my Avatar like that, it looks too much to me like I chose the Avatar and the apellation. So could you please find some other wonderful designation that is more inline with my Avatar's reality? Something like Grey Old Fart Inseaming. src="http://leatherworker.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/evillaugh.gif"> With regards, Paul Name: Paul Krause UserName: Leatherimages IP Address: 71.209.207.248 Email Address: pkmaker1@hotmail.com

  14. You did a very fine job. What leather is this? Did you line it? Good luck with your outdoor versions. Paul
  15. Howdy, This is a very facinating sheath construction. Would you be will to explain it's parts? Thank you, Paul

So as not to be pigeon holed as 'just a boot maker', I show some of my other projects over the years.

  20. Ben and Bruce and others, Thank you again for the welcomes. I registered last January but just never sat still long enough to figure it all out. I gave it three hours or so yesterday and well, what you see is what I got. Lots of hand stitchin' today. Wish me strength and stamina.
  21. Thank you Gesa. That is a helpful web site. Maybe I'll pass it off to my customer. I don't care to work anything so small. Anybody interested?
  22. Thanks dude. I get my lasts from Bill Tippet of Global Footwear Solutions. He's got a great web site which is designed to teach as well as serve. Because the fit makes all the difference, it's well worth it to spend the money on a good pair of lasts. I'll be happy to share anything I can.
  23. Thanks for the welcome pard
