Robyn I use 8/9 oz for most of mine and line with 2/3 oz but you sure can go a little lighter with no problem. txgreenhorn I think that any place that makes custom conchos will be able to help you with that. I would try Wages Silversmiths. Mark

DEADEYE I have not got it done as of yet but am working on it as fast as I can. I do have other patterns on my web site but none of them are carving patterns yet hope to get more of them out too. Dwight Armitas are more less a pair of chinks. Chinks I think came from Armitas , they are worn for working or show but were first used in CA buy working stockman on the big ranches. I would make chinks got the girls myself and this is why. I make them long like bat wings more less that way as they grow they will last for years with some miner adjustments. In my DVD that is what I am making for some boys the live up the road. They will grow into them and they should last for 5 to 10 years depending on the boys LOL. shot guns really don't last kids long and that is why I try and get those that want chaps made for their kids to get chinks or these armitas will work just like the chinks. Patterns are done and ready to ship for those at would like some. Mark

What I tell those that buy my patterns is to tape the patterns to like a large window then get poster board and trace it right on to the poster board, do this when he sun is out strong. That way you will always have your patterns to use if you need new ones. You can also go to like Staples and have them make a copy for you on their big copier. There is one more way that is to buy my patterns did I just say that LOL Sorry just had to. I hope this helps Mark

Buddy I can say that this has helped me a lot. Find someone that draws carves lots of saddles. Then get a hold of them some how and talk with them. Then ask if they will take a look at what you are drawing and ask if they will let you know what might look better or what needs to be different. I can say that I have got lots of great advice on my patterns this way. I see lots of people asking for patterns for different thing but are not willing to try and draw their own up. By drawing your own first it seems to let the guys you ask for help that your really in it for the long haul. I know there are some great guys on this site that have worked with me one on one with patterns I have drawn up and am sure that they will help others that are willing to work at it some. Hope this helps out I know it as worked for me. Mark

Adam Glad to hear that you got them to fit better. I had not seen this post before now so I am late like most of the time. It sounds like you did have them to high, this can sometimes be from the drop being to high as well, At least that is been the case with some I have made in the past. Glad it is working for you. Mark

First Pair Of Chinks Finished
MarkB replied to AdamTill's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
Hi Adam First just want to say Thank You for the kind words about the DVD. Next I will say that you did a great job on them. The tooling look well done for a first time. I really think you took the DVD and then put you ideas into your chinks. The hand sewing look well done. I do see somethings I might work on but are not done badly at all. First is that I would start cutting the fringe at more of an angle so that as you go around the corner it will take less wedge cuts and it will also help the fringe to hang better down the side. In picture #4 you can see that a few more wedge cuts would have helped the fringe hang straighter sooner as well. Next I would not have cut a border around the yoke just because I think it would look better where you did not back ground all the way out to it. IMO Thanks again for the kind words about the DVD. I hope to have a pattern pack ready with carving patterns for my yokes and side panels as well. I have some great Carvers working on patterns for it, guys like Troy West, Steve Brewer, Andy Stevens, Bruce Johnson, Clay Miller, and Bob Park. It is looking like a very cool pattern pack with many different styles to look at. Mark
