  1. I might make an apron at some point and I am curious as well. For such a large piece, isn't chrome tan less expensive? I think a pull-up leather would look awesome.
  2. Can some one explain what is needed? I know a retired machinist that loves projects. Is there a link or video that shows what needs to be crimped and how?
  3. That's awesome he's getting such great support from his grand parents. Nice sling!
  4. Appreciate the info. I'll look into both. Thanks.
  5. So I'm thinking each vertical panel will be 4oz/4oz, Pals webbing on one side, sewn vertically. I like the 8oz weight but I would like grain side seen throughout. I was also thinking 4 oz for the (thin section around the edges that give it volume). If you watch videos on it's intended use, the sides need to be flexible to pull the corner down on your draw. I'm not opposed to wet-molding anything, but I want the extra pouch in front of the pistol compartment. What do you think? I am planning to use Velcro or dummy cord to secure my AIWB holster to the chest rig. It will not be flopping around. Are bridle and harness veg tan? Is there something different about them that makes them tougher? I'm still wondering about clips and adjusting straps...
  6. Welp. I'm going with veg tan.

    Vests

That's a great idea! Also, yeah watch it anything from China. Including the meat at the grocery store.
  8. I want to create something like this: https://hillpeoplegear.com/Products/CategoryID/1/ProductID/37 I would like it to be somewhat waterproof. I've only worked with veg tan and some exotic scraps. All my veg tan I finish with sno-seal, and I would be happy with that level of waterproofing. I would like to incorporate some of the PALS webbing. Any drawbacks to using veg tan? Any advantages to using chrome tan or something else? Please be specific with products and tanneries as I have no experience with any of them. I would line the pistol compartment with veg tan. Should a stiffener be used? Perhaps are the back piece that touches my chest? Also, I really like the [pinch to open clip thingies]. Would those work with leather or is there another product that would offer quick detach and adjustability? I really want to start this project and I would be grateful for any insight before I spend hours making this. I would be happy to share my pattern if it works out.
  9. I also have this question.
  10. I'm curious about this, as well. I got a good sized piece from SLC in one of their scrap bags, but the scales seem like they'll fall off in a breeze.
  11. I've been using ritza tiger thread. I really like it. I did my belly with 4mm spacing and 0.8mm thread. If it was available, I would have preferred longer spacing and 1.0 mm thread.
  12. Thanks. After making this one I'm thinking even layers might be better. It was tricky getting the thick and thin layer beveled nicely.
  13. That's awesome... Might have to follow suit on my favorite hat
  14. Use it to hold my 1911 and 1 mag puuch. Not my ideal color choices.. It's what I had!
  15. Nice. I like the cut_back at the rest of the riser. I measured the circumference and then subtracted 1/8"... It stretched and made the stitches look like crap but I was afraid of them slipping off inadvertently. I was messing with gradient dying and it happened to work, thanks for noticing.
  16. Classy
  17. My old belt got all raggedy and was never as stiff as I wanted. 8 oz. Face, 4 oz. Inner liner. Got these buckles from fosterweld on Etsy.
  18. Thanks. It's a game-changer, for sure.
  19. @DaveP here is a close up of one of the caps. I used 2 pieces of 2-3oz. For the tubular section.
  20. That's sweet
  21. I only saddle stitch at this point, as well. When I get back home I'll post some better pictures of the caps for you. Then you can see the mistakes haha.

Perhaps... But that might affect my compass use, and these are pretty stiff. The closure side has about a1" gap where you slide your wrist into. It's stiff enough that you squeeze the metal ring to confirm to your layers of clothing, sort of like a cuff bracelet. I took some pictures but not sure they illustrate the point.
  23. It's a low-voc formulation. Works ok. Uniformed voters vote in politicians that turn the screws.
  24. Yep that's right. Tried to get Angelus dyes and paint... They can't ship to a California address. Their factory is in Los Angeles. We also can't get certain species of skins/hides, the only state to require copper bullets for hunting, and can't get most of the firearms people can get in every other state. Try buying a vehicle in another state and bringing it to California for a real good time.
  25. Fiebings dye, the one they allow in California. I just use SNO seal as a final finish on my projects. Hiked a few hours in the rain and my lenses were perfectly dry and clear
