I kinda liked "toothpaste rule". -
That rope border really made a difference. The green and red on the rose is also a nice addition. Very nice looking. He should be pleased with it.
-
Looks good. All the symbolism makes it special. The rose is nice. The stamp you used for the border is good. Nice work. The only thing I would do differently on the border is to cut it with a swivel knife and bevel that before doing any stamping. That defines the space and keeps things even.

LOL, the one I made with the rawhide lining was a Pale Rider rig. Maybe the cylinder holder will give you some ideas. Looking forward to yours.
-
Obviously you got it right because they came out looking mighty good.
-
Those look good. Nice work, there. Your holsters are much better looking than the one rawhide lined holster I made one time as an experiment. The leather wouldn't glue to the rawhide and to shape it, it shrank at a very different rate than the rest of the holster. It worked well but looked funky.
-
That's a good consideration. It would have to be allowed to stick out front and back to work at all and then it would be questionable. You might have to make it steel lined like a holster to keep it from flexing too much. That would keep it from cutting the stitches, though.

That's a very good way to start leather working! Now you're on your way. Cool.
-
Ah, another one to look forward to. Thumbs-up!

That's an outstanding rig. It looks like you met her criteria just right. The only thing I might try differently is to open the top stitch line of that sheath so the knife can be drawn upwards. Kind of like making a carry sheath for a leather round knife. Of course, that probably wouldn't retain it as well but it might be another way to try it. It might not work out, either. Your design is definitely good. Good work.

New apprentice with new tools!

Congratulations. That sounds like an interesting job. If you carry a tool belt, you may want to consider a shoulder strap or straps to ease the uneven weight on one side of your waist. When I was young, I worked as a plant mechanic in a food processing plant and as billybopp said, you'll soon figure out what tools you will need the most and what you won't. -
Good plan. I look forward to seeing the next one.
-
Looks good. That would also make a good cross-draw configuration. Welcome to the forum.

I like the subtle antiquing you ended up with. It came out fine. Congrats. You say you'll rebuild it. In what manner? Why not just dye the tab and be done with it?
-
That would work. Maybe right about where you would put a tie-tack.
-
You can buy patterns for either two or one strap saddlebags from Will Ghormley. His stuff is pretty authentic. He also makes leather for movies.
-
Thanks. Sounds like a good design on the holster and sheath. Do a search for FA Meanea saddlebags and take a look at some of those. It wouldn't be too hard to modify an existing pattern to look like an original pair. They would be typical of what a cowpoke had in the 1800's.

Those look great! Love those maple leaves with the clean cross-hatched back ground. I see 10 bullet loops on each side. Must be for that (those?) built-in holster(s). Nice design well carried out. Thumbs-up!
-
Maybe just put a stitch or two in it toward the back instead of a rivet.
-
Thanks for the additional photo. Looks good.

Nice work. The dots are nicely aligned and spaced. Good job.
-
Looks good. The BW aligned with the wallet edge is a nice touch.
-
Nice work. Your son should be mighty pleased with it. I like your choice of BW, too.
-
That's an interesting idea. I have a few ties but never considered a leather one. A finished pic would be welcome when you get your dimensions, if possible.
-
That looks like a well thought out design. Good looking, too. Fine work.
