  1. That is outstanding. The prices aren't bad, either. Thanks for posting about these.
  2. I'm looking forward to seeing your belt when it's done. Using a straight edge for long cuts is not all that hard. When I have to make a long straight cut, I use one of the large Vice Grip clamps to hold one end of the straight edge. I don't clamp it hard enough to leave a mark on the leather but enough to keep one end in place while I hold the other end by hand.
  3. Thanks, I will. We're planning a move and I'm not buying anything I will have to move. Machinery and such will happen after we're all situated.
  4. Thanks. I'll make a note of that. I'll probably be getting a machine later this year.
  5. They are fine looking. Did you order them or make them?
  6. Thanks for the link. I had not seen those before so it helps to read them, which I did thanks to your post. Knowing they exist, I did find that the link to the rules are located right under the header for 'Items For Sale'. The rules are clear enough, but I had not seen that link before. I went to the marketplace with a different browser and they showed. In this browser and yet another, however, they only show in grey as a link, not very obvious.
  7. I'm fairly new here and may not have a clear idea of how things are done. I can see the reasoning behind the 100 post requirement but I can also see the point made by @Mulesaw On one forum I moderate there aren't those restrictions but there also isn't as much call to buy and sell things there. Perhaps the best solution is no post requirement and have a healthy warning at the top of the "Items For Sale" section. I may not have a clear picture of how things happen here so feel free to pick my post apart. I'll learn from that.
  8. I kinda liked "toothpaste rule".
  9. That rope border really made a difference. The green and red on the rose is also a nice addition. Very nice looking. He should be pleased with it.
  10. Looks good. All the symbolism makes it special. The rose is nice. The stamp you used for the border is good. Nice work. The only thing I would do differently on the border is to cut it with a swivel knife and bevel that before doing any stamping. That defines the space and keeps things even.
  11. LOL, the one I made with the rawhide lining was a Pale Rider rig. Maybe the cylinder holder will give you some ideas. Looking forward to yours.
  12. Obviously you got it right because they came out looking mighty good.
  13. Those look good. Nice work, there. Your holsters are much better looking than the one rawhide lined holster I made one time as an experiment. The leather wouldn't glue to the rawhide and to shape it, it shrank at a very different rate than the rest of the holster. It worked well but looked funky.
  14. That's a good consideration. It would have to be allowed to stick out front and back to work at all and then it would be questionable. You might have to make it steel lined like a holster to keep it from flexing too much. That would keep it from cutting the stitches, though.
  15. That's a very good way to start leather working! Now you're on your way. Cool.
  16. Ah, another one to look forward to. Thumbs-up!
  17. That's an outstanding rig. It looks like you met her criteria just right. The only thing I might try differently is to open the top stitch line of that sheath so the knife can be drawn upwards. Kind of like making a carry sheath for a leather round knife. Of course, that probably wouldn't retain it as well but it might be another way to try it. It might not work out, either. Your design is definitely good. Good work.
  18. Congratulations. That sounds like an interesting job. If you carry a tool belt, you may want to consider a shoulder strap or straps to ease the uneven weight on one side of your waist. When I was young, I worked as a plant mechanic in a food processing plant and as billybopp said, you'll soon figure out what tools you will need the most and what you won't.
  19. Good plan. I look forward to seeing the next one.
  20. Looks good. That would also make a good cross-draw configuration. Welcome to the forum.
  21. I like the subtle antiquing you ended up with. It came out fine. Congrats. You say you'll rebuild it. In what manner? Why not just dye the tab and be done with it?
  22. That would work. Maybe right about where you would put a tie-tack.
  23. You can buy patterns for either two or one strap saddlebags from Will Ghormley. His stuff is pretty authentic. He also makes leather for movies.
  24. Thanks. Sounds like a good design on the holster and sheath. Do a search for FA Meanea saddlebags and take a look at some of those. It wouldn't be too hard to modify an existing pattern to look like an original pair. They would be typical of what a cowpoke had in the 1800's.
  25. Those look great! Love those maple leaves with the clean cross-hatched back ground. I see 10 bullet loops on each side. Must be for that (those?) built-in holster(s). Nice design well carried out. Thumbs-up!
