  1. Thanks! Me too! yeah SB Foot’s rough and tough and hillbilly do that.
  2. Thanks! I had the dies made up in 2019 but finally nailed down what I wanted to do and pricing.
  3. After many months of working/thinking on exactly what I wanted to do with these bags, I've finally landed on what will be our stock design (obviously we can make modifications if you'd like.) It features an inside pocket large enough for a 13" MacBook, Pen Pockets and phone pocket, a front pocket big enough for most tablets, buckle closures and grab handle. I've got them made up in Briar Oil Slick, Black Canyan (a Teacore AKA: Prairie), Black Cherry Excalibur, Concrete Hardtimes (R&T) and Sienna Hillbilly, all from SB Foot. I also did a sample in another leather from Seidel Tannery (last pictrue).
  4. Exactly it's all used...one argument that I hear from well-meaning people in favor of using leather is that "it will just go into a landfill" and that's nonsense...even if, magically, one day leather is no longer a "thing"...people will figure out uses for it just like everything else.
  5. I've seen it brought up from time to time and even checked out a site for one company that was selling small pieces. The pricing was on par with Shell Cordovan ($100 for about 1 square foot)...it was waaay too much to take a chance on. I was interested because it seems to be more of a "grown material" and not like a lot of the other "vegan leathers" out there that are basically a fiber with a plasticy binder. I've said it before but pineapple, cactus and some of the others aren't really all that different from the 100-year-old technique that LV uses to make their coated Canvas. The makers play them up as something new and interesting but in practice they're more like coated cloth or paper.
  6. Yes they will leave marks. So when we finish products occasionally we have a bit of edge that hangs over because of leather stretching during splitting. The Wiss are great (and we do use them frequently) but will mark on one side of the leather, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Here's a piece I folded and cut you can see the "bottom" part of the fold gets teeth marks. For us when it's precision and not too heavy. We use any of the Fiskar's Razoredge series. They're $15-$20 and we do have to replace occasionally. I'm going to look at the KAI too.
  7. Down to about 30 Hides of the Black CXL
  8. Still have a little over 100 feet of both these leathers
  9. Out of Unicorn but still have Spruce and Tumeric Kudu
  10. Still have 2-3 sides of Tan Utica and Plenty of the Espresso DHF. Lowing the price of the DHF to $2.50 per foot
  11. Still have a bit of this.
  12. Just Bumping this thread because it's been a while. I still have Cognac and Blush, Grey and Blush, and Olive and Blush
  13. I’ve gotten my hands on a bit of Horween Latigo selling at $6 per foot full hides only. 3.5-4oz Colors heather grey, natural and tan. I have the most of the natural. Shipping from Ruby SC 29728
  14. Yeah absolutely no useful information here even for locals. @Mistr Please describe the type of hardware, maybe what you were making. I would also say, don't rule out shipping, if you want to sell the lot and it fits on a pallet you can get a truck to pickup and take it anywhere in the USA for under $500 and as little as $100-$200 if they're close.
  15. Nothing worse than the realization that you've been confidently incorrect...well good on you to be honest and call back.
  16. This is a great warning post. Here's another thing you can do that adds to this point: Download the image (right click and "save") then take the photo and drag it into https://images.google.com/ and it will show you if the same image anywhere else on the web, if it's on another "for sale" post from sometime in the past with different "owner info", it's a sure sign of a scam. Obviously asking for more pics or closeups works two but reverse searching is something you can do with out further contact.
  17. So yes make sure that the belt below the stone is tight and not broken as @fredk said. That's the most common issue. On my machine I just make replacement belts from leather but you can also buy them. If the mechanism that turns the belt isn't moving, check further in. There is a knob that will move forward and back to push the small pointy rod on the left of my picture. If when the rod is not engaged the two wheels (on the right in the picture) aren't touching then you can adjust to make sure they make contact. Since it's an old machine it's possible the rubber on the wheels has worn down.
  18. Honestly depends on your market. If you're selling to pros, they buy sides. If you're selling to smaller hobbyists then panels. I can't imagine someone making a living at leather buying panels, except exotics.
  19. Working on these guys in the near future. Anyone interested? PM me!
  20. I don't need a stamp but I can hook you up with a guy who will sell you a gaylord (pallet sized box) for $250 to $300...mostly small pieces but enough for what you're doing. Let me know and I can put you in contact.
  21. It's very niche and unfortunately that means you may have a tough time. I'd recommend you give Dan at Randall Campbell a call. They can tell you what it's worth and possibly sell it if you want to go that route.
  22. Yeah that makes sense...I could also see "professional use" being an exception with knives (not sure if he's doing kitchen knives) but a chef who uses the same knife all day, everyday will eventually wear it to a nub...or if the back is thick it becomes less of a knife and more of a hatchet.
  23. Yeah my reckoning is that those that start the guarantee hope to sell the company or retire long before "the music stops"...even a small percentage of sales over 100 years is nuts unless it's a low-wear/use item.
  24. Yeah we pay shipping if it happens in the first year after that customer pays. We guarantee “zippers, seams and hardware” but not damage or wear and tear. Occasionally I replace a zipper pull but that’s about it.
  25. Yeah those are some that see the most wear and like everything use changes the lifespan a lot...if you carry a bag every day to an office vs if you carry it only occasionally makes the difference between "I've carried this bag 20 years vs "after 5 years it's looking kinda rough."
